To all my ND fans here at the beginning of the season!

I've missed you guys :) it's been an incredibly hard summer. My mom passed away very unexpectedly at the end of May. I'm still trying to figure out how to put my life back together again.

ANYWAY - Go Irish!! *hugs all around*

Sorry Brah... Hopefully things will become easier with each passing day. Obviously, you'll always mourn your mom, but remember her in all the good times. Go Irish!

Sorry for the loss , keep your head up. Let me leave you with a quote that always helps me through tough times. Its from rocky but its still effective for me and maybe a little part of it can help you out. The bold part has done more for me than any person i have ever talked to.

"And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow. Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you're hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."

Sorry to hear about your loss. Never easy, even when you're prepared for it. Just said a prayer for you and your mom. As others have already said, just keep plugging away and live your life. I'm betting that's what your mom would like for you to do.

She's been a "Brother in Arms" here since the Weis Woes.

Her brothers share her pain and trust a lifetime of fond memories will ease the loss.

Thanks so much, everyone!

And yes, I'm a girl. And yes, I've been here since the horrible Weis times!

Thank you so much everyone. It has been incredibly difficult for me as she died from sepsis and I am a Microbiologist. She got a cut on her finger and died 36 hours later. Very upsetting as I could have saved her but was unable...very ironic.

One of my sisters nearly succumbed to sepsis this summer. She was misdiagnosed. One of the many medical professionals in the extended family suggested sepsis but the attending was adamant it was not. She was moved to another hospital where the correct diagnosis was made and proper treatment given. An RA infusion was deemed the probable cause. It can come from so many situations.

Do you know what the bacteria was that she had sepsis with?

In the case of my mom, the doctors missed it not once, but twice. The first night she went to the ER and they said it was a "muscle sprain" and sent her home. She never told me about it that first night. The second night she went back to the ER and at that point she was already in multi-organ failure and they misdiagnosed her (again). Then they shipped her off to another hospital and by the time my dad called me to say she was in the hospital, I literally walked right out of work in the middle of my shift, picked up my boyfriend at home, and drove up there. We arrived at 12:50 am, and at 1:10 she died. They brought my dad and I in to see her in her last few minutes. I was kind of assuming they would just be monitoring her or something but when we got into her room she was under a full code and there were like 2 doctors giving compressions and 10 nurses hooking up IVs and taking notes. I consider myself pretty tough when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I almost fainted. Three nurses had to hold me up and apparently I turned really green. So I basically went from thinking nothing was wrong and all was as it should be, to having my mom die just a few hours later.

Turns my stomach just remembering it. Easily the worst night of my life to date.

Quinny, I truly feel your pain. I see no need to delve into detail, but I've been through this far too many times.

My only comment is this: over time the good, loving memories will overcome the immediate pain.

Welcome them, cherish them and revel in them. The agony may subside while the smile inducing memories move to the forefront.

Stay strong. Carry on. There is love all around you.
