I'd love to see a front 4 of Ishaq, Day, possibly Vanderdoes, and Tuitt on obvious passing downs.

Subtract Vanderdoes and add Shembo and that is most likely what our four down linemen/passing down formation will look like to start the season

Since it was a topic of conversation I thought its worth posting. In Sampson's and Prister II Instant Analysis post practice today they made note that Elston said Williams in back working at CAT. The cross training was mainly because Tuitt was out and for emergency purposes.

I think we'll notice him more this year than last, noticeable improvement. I really can't be more optimistic because I think Shembo is gonna be hard to get off the field. Its set up perfectly for Ishaq to get on the field more this year and then breakout next year when he's the #1 by himself.

32. Seattle Seahawks – Ishaq Williams, LB, Notre Dame. Three Irish defenders in the first round seems high. I think all of these three project as better pros at their position than T’eo does.

I never even once thought about him entering the draft a year early. Based on his production, or lack thereof, so far I can't imagine it happening. I would love for him to have the type of season that warrants a first round pick though.

how many sacks would he need to prick the interest of NFL teams??? 10 plus?? Can't see it happening, i just hope Ishaq can become a dependable guy this year and his senior season is when he becomes a true playmaker

I hope he becomes a playmaker this year. Hope he gets to put his hand on the ground more this year and just go after QBs.

Good question. It stands to reason that it's got to be some combination of production and intangibles. (Like Ziggy Ansah). He's 6-6 and supposedly is in the 4.7's, so that's a good start. Of course, if you don't start on your own college team then you're usually not even looked at.

Dion Jordan had 5 sacks and went #3 overall. Ezekiel Ansah had 4.5. The NFL has no rhyme or reason sometimes... especially if you have perceived "upside."

true enough I suppose and Ansah started just 4 games of football in his life when he got drafted.

Both of these guys were combine warriors though right?

All IEs happy talk about Ishaq reminds me of the similar talk every pre-season about Filer.

I REALLY hope that my deep disappointment in his career so far is short-lived, but I utterly fail to see where the hype can be justified until he actually DOES something. "Eye-tests" to me are close to meaningless.

AND... playing behind The Prince is going to limit his chances to show much unless he makes every snap count. Shembo is going to be an All-American this season and [with Jackson] the on-field vocal leader [this was Manti's opinion].

So... let's haul it, big fella. No more cruising around. Kick some butt!!!

I still remember when Ishaq committed and how much promise he still has. You can't teach his size and ability. It's just hard for him that he has a potential all American in front of him.

I think moving Okwara to DE instead of Ishaq shows how much faith they have in him picking up the playbook for this year and next year. I think five sacks this year for Ishaq is very reasonable because I noticed last year how many times he was in the backfield disrupting plays.

My pick for breakout player of the year for the Irish. Ishaq looked great in the spring game IMO.

It never really occured to me before, but it sounds like the biggest reason Ishaq has been mediocre is because football was just not as important to him. If you are the star football player at your high school in NYC, it's just not the same as being the star at your school in Texas. Football is not king. It does not define you in the same way.

It's like why Kentucky football will never be Tier 1 for more than a year or two and Alabama will never have a great BBall team. People just don't care that much. It seems to me that if the Tide got to the Final 4, but their starting rb tore his hamstring in an off-season workout, all the attention in the Alabama sports media would instantly shift to the latter.

Growing up in the Northeast, sometimes you just don't get how important college football is to the rest of the country. IW has been getting a lesson in college football culture. Hope his heart catches up with his body!

I hate to say it. But for as highly touted as he was coming in he has kinda flopped. I mean as far as stars go, he is top 10 in the last 10 years. D wise at least.

Too early to call that.

I've seen him physically remove linemen into the backfield. He's getting his prepration. When Shembo graudates, Ishaq will be a monster.

Ishaq had a good game against USC.

He would have blown up 2 plays (one for a sack, another for a stuff on a 3rd down run) but he was held really bad, and instead we got the 2 flags.

I'm still iffy on what exactly he'll bring his senior year.

People say "monster", if he's been flashing greatness to this point, I may be inclined to agree with that, but when he does flash, it's more off "that was a good play" not "that was a great play".

In my opinion, it's going to be a tough competition for the starting CAT linebacker position next year. And I won't be shocked if he losses it to Okwara. I'd be a bit surprised, but not shocked.
