Are we raising a generation of sissies?

Good post. Now that you mention it when you read Bukowski or Herbert Selby Jr. it definitely presents a different picture of the good old days as well.

I went back and fleshed it out a little more, to make it clearer for everyone. It never was the good old days. Someone on another thread posted a YouTube video with some experts specifically talking about the ego. And how deceptive it is. (One expert actually called it the true embodiment of the devil). I liked that. But not only does our ego find us faultless most of the time, when working correctly, it also helps us misremember things. Some of you who grew up in the '70's and '80's remember pretty good times. I remember the Cambodian Government executing 25% of it's own population. So many that they didn't have enough bullets to waste, killing them all. So they had to come up with creative ideas. I guess you haven't lived until you have seen grown men laughing and swinging babies against trees, as you would a stick or club, (and not been able to shoot them.)

Why say this now? Your all's supposed decline of the American culture is a first world problem. In most places people are just trying to eat without being 'murderized.'

Cool. As an aside, most of the Mexican guys I worked with in the past would give me a hard time and say stuff like "you sure you're Mexican?". That is until they saw me work my magic with a pick and a shovel. Then it was "Ohhh...you really are Mexican!". Haha.

Lol that is exactly what I mean. In Los Angeles that is much more evident than up here in far Nor Cal where most people called Mexican are Mexican immigrants.

Like a generation of being in America wipes out the once magical immigrant ability to work hard lol

The only time I call my wife "Mexican" is when I'm mad at her....

:)

They are "Spanish" once you marry them. That joke is from my cousin's "Spanish" wife.

Immigrants built (and continue to build) this country. People come to this country because they can work hard to get ahead for themselves and their family. That is just as true today as it always has been. Maybe it is because there are so many natural born Americans that are further removed from immigrating that they don't fully appreciate the sacrifices made by previous generations to improve their lot in life.

To be poor in America is still a better standard of living than probably 4/5ths of the world population.

Apparently it has for the youth of today. Might take two generations.

That's what I like most about Los Angeles. It's actually more like Mexico in terms of the cultural diversity than most people realize.

Cats are not pussies, although ACamp did manage to find two of the more gay cat pictures I have seen.

Hey I quoted a line from the movie that guy was in and apparently nobody liked it. Or it was just creepy. Not one of Sean Connery's finer roles. I tried. I am non-biased with my heckling.

Remember when kids walked home or took a bus? Nowadays there are mile long lines of cars around the block.

Suburban sprawl. Can't walk to anything anymore.

Light the Buster Bluth signal.
