Iowa State football recruit Allen Lazard said there’s no reason for Cyclone fans to be alarmed, but …

He will be taking an official visit to Notre Dame on June 10.

This came about because of a close relationship the Urbandale wide receiver developed with former Cyclone assistant coach Bobby Elliott. Elliott, now a Notre Dame aide, kept in contact with Lazard and on Friday offered him a chance to visit the South Bend campus.

“He was the first coach that I met at Iowa State when I was a sophomore,” Lazard said. “He said that they lost two outside receivers this year, that they transferred out.
“I’m just weighing my options and seeing what Notre Dame has to offer. I’m still cool with Iowa State, though.”

Lazard is a four-star recruit according to Rivals, the No. 1-ranked wide receiver in the class of 2014. He has orally committed to Iowa State.

Lazard, who said he was a bit of a Notre Dame fan growing up, said he wants to get a close look at the school’s academics, the state of its football team, what incoming recruits the Fighting Irish have lined up, and, of course, the coaching staff.

Asked what it would take for him to change his commitment to Iowa State, Lazard said:

“I couldn’t tell you the answer. Something very big would have to happen at Iowa State, something negative, something drastic.”

Rivals Josh Helmholdt said its an unofficial visit BTW. He's considered a soft commit by many analysts.

From the Master List Thread...

From the Master List Thread...

Notre Dame offered one of the top WRs in the country Allen Lazard from Iowa. He's a soft ISU commit.

IDK that I'd say he's a top WR in the country, but here's his profile.

Allen Lazard

He's one of the best, he's Rivals #1 actually. He has great size and used his size really well. Maybe the top downfield threat in the country.

Really? I didn't know. He lists a 4.74 40 on espn, so I didn't expect him to be a down the field threat. Big body, though.

His offer list isn't impressive and his commitment to Iowa State? Weird.

Josh Helmholdt thinks we stand a good chance to get a OV, obviously Bob Elliott is his recruiter.

Put in proper order. Sorry I couldn't just move or copy the posts but doing so puts the posts in chronological order and these posts came before the thread was created. It would have just cause a big mess.

Thanks Beau. I really like Lazard and our chances

No problem.

The staff really seems to be dead set on getting at least one really big WR if not a couple this year. (Kief, Lazard, Andrews, Todd...)

I hear that one big reason he's staying in state is because of his high school girlfriend. Didn't stop Elijah Hood....

As a guy still dating his high school sweetheart all I'll say is this: If she can't handle you going out of state to better yourself (for both you and her in the long run), then it wouldn't be worth limiting yourself anyway.

It's easy for a kid to say this when he hasn't step foot on campus. Campus will be immaculate considering he'll be visiting in June when it's warm and right after graduation and reunions.

Des Moines land is nervous over this, big time. When I got in the car after work, the local radio show was talking about this and the phone lines lit up.

Hawkeye fans are already pissed about missing out, now that big boys are calling, Cyclones will out as well, IMO.

HS kids don't get it, but how many of us are still with our HS girlfriends? Iowa State or ND, tough choice?

I'm going on 7 years. But she wasn't the type to stop me from going to a different college or an out-of-state law school. Definitely not worth making life choices over, given the probability though.

It happens, but I would guess less than 10% of the time. Good for you guys making it work.

Weird we have more offers out in the state of Iowa (2) than Pennsylvania (0)

But something big, negative, and drastic DID happen at Iowa State. Notre Dame offered.
