They still didn't play well. Looks like they will escape, but just bad decision making and perimeter defense. Why is Skylar taking the ball to the hole 1on 2, up 6 with a minute left?

Because she's a badass. She is the best guard in the country, she can do what she wants.

Achonwa with a MONSTER 20 points, 20 rebounds game

Not logical, but fair enough. I watched the game. Sky Digg has shot like 33% in her last 2 games. I do not watch enough womens basketball to be able to name a better guard, but from what Ive seen from her, she doesnt blow me away with her decision making. They did not play well today, and if they don't play better defense their tournament run will end early.

They found a way to win, and I credit them for that. And your power forward/center should have 20 rebounds when the opposing team shoots 35% from the field.

Skylar is far and away the best guard. Odyssey Sims of Baylor is 2nd. I don't know how you can't be impressed. She put up 30 against UCONN and for being 5'8", she gets a lot of rebounds

Did you watch today's game? Watching objectively, both of the Smith girls for USF looked like better players than her, if that was the first time you had seen any of them play. I guess technically, one of those twins is a forward.

Did she have 30 in that triple OT game? Haven't seen a final statline, but I know she took a LOT of shots. and the last line I saw on her today was 5-17 from the field. She's shooting 43% for the year, which is average.

Look, I know she's a great player. I watched the entire game, and I thought she made 8-10 questionable decisions throughout. She's relentless and no doubt he spirit that makes that team successful. I just don't think she's playing her best ball right now. Tired legs, pressure, maybe a bit of both. Hope they make a run and send her out on top.

Yes, I did watch the game. USF is a good team with 21 wins. Saying those twins are better than her is silly especially since you said you haven't watched a lot of women's basketball this year. It reminds me of the people who are judging Teo's draft stock off of the Bama game and combine.

I guess we have to agree to disagree on this one

Well, she's averaging the most assists in the Big East to go along with the 3rd most points. Also, she scored 33 against #9 Tennessee and had a triple double against DePaul.

For comparisons sake, those twins are shooting 35% and 38% from the field.

Skylar is a lot like Manti. Both are great players and great leaders who have been instrumental to their teams' success, but they're probably hyped a bit due to some 'non-athletic reasons.'

Wow, all the hate being shown to Skylar is ridiculous. I believe some of you guys don't watch the women's team on a regular basis. It's hard for me to even put down stuff on here to convince you she is a great player. Start watching and you will realize.

All the hate? I'm tired of that word. I don't see any hate in my comments, or anyone else's in this thread. I think I've watched 4 or 5 women's games this year, which based on tv coverage, is a pretty good body of work. I've seen plenty.

I think she is a very good player. You certainly dont need to convince me of that. I agree with Dillon Hall, I think she gets a little extra hype cuz she's hot and Lil Wayne agrees. I'm sure she's a first or second team All-American, I'd argue that's more a product of great coaching and a great system.

Hate is a strong word. Ignorant is more appropos.

AP First Team All-American as a Jr.
AP Third Team All-American as a So.
AP Honorable Mention All-American as a Fr.

She'll be a unanimous First Team as a Sr.

Just how many AP votes does Lil Wayne have?

How many AP voters follow Lil Wayne?

As noted yesterday in this thread if you had bothered to read is a list of Diggins Milestones. She an ND Career Leader in Scoring (2nd), Assist (1st), Steals (3rd).

The First ND Women to score 2000 points, 500 Rebs (as a 5-8 Guard), and 500 assists.

Only one of six NCAA players to achieve 2000 points, 500 Rebs, 500 assists, and 300 Steals since 2000.

How many of those Points did Lil Wayne get an assist on?

Lil Wayne may have added some followers to her Twitter posse but he didn't contribute an iota to her on court accomplishments.

Dillon Hall is well known here for his churlish snipes on any sport, athlete, or any topic. Together you two are Irish Envy's version of the Two Grumpy Old Guys on the Muppets.

Mindboggling commentary deprecating Skylar Diggins. I wonder if the concept of "Body of Work" ever means anything to some people? Skylar Diggins has been a GREAT Women's Collegiate Basketball player and any analyst with any basketball sense knows it.

Everyone is going to have a mediocre game occasionally. Everyone is going to have a game where someone on the other team has a better one. What-in-the-He!l is wrong with some of these commentators?

If anyone really played ball in a way that they "felt" it, they'd have some perspective on the physical and the mental strains which come and go with an excellent player. This ND team has had a VERY long slog, and frankly it's showing. It's not a team which just easily runs away from every opponent. It must play hard and grind out wins --- even Coach McGraw says that these girls have overachieved.

At this stage of the season they're tired, and more than just physically [which is the easiest "fix"]. They almost need a pre-tournament loss to reinstill the "hunger". This is what Skylar is seeing in her classmates and to some degree in herself. And this is why she sometimes is trying too hard.

This great athlete is going to be on the Notre Dame Wall-of-Fame. Get off her back.

I'm glad the IE feelings posse has set me straight. Because all of my opinions were (GASP!) not gushingly positive about Skylar. Please.

And I'll name you 25 other posters in a minute that are more synonymous with Statler and Waldorf than myself and DH. I appreciate being called "ignorant" btw.

Back to lurker status, don't want to anger the royals.

Holds breath..............

I respect everyone's opinion and everyone is entitled to one but to say Skylar is as popular as she is because of her looks is asinine, in my opinion.

She is extremely talented. She took her high school team to 4 consecutive state championship games and since being with ND she has took a routinely middle of the pack program (with the occasional up years) to two consecutive National Title Games and the potential for another this year. The program has also turned the tide on the UConn rivalry, which is huge is the women's game.

There is a reason she was the top Guard coming out of high school and arguably the best in the NCAA this year. She also won Player of the Year in the Big East for a reason. I don't believe those voters look at anything other than performance on the court.

I understand her popularity may be overblown due to looks but her performance on the court is a whole other story.

First of all, are you saying that AP voters are always right and never swept up by hype?

Secondly, here are some stats for you, BGIF. In national rankings, Skylar is 64th in scoring, 23rd in assists, and 138th in field goal percentage (couldn't find stats on steals).

Clearly, these numbers prove she's the best player ever.

Why don't you go back and read my opinion on Skylar? It's objective and what I believe to be completely accurate. You're the one who is ignorant and biased.

Would be shocked if she wasn't in the top 5.

The stats aren't really relevant in the sense that in about 90 % of the games, Skylar and the rest of the first unit would be on the bench for most of the 2nd half.
What Skylar Diggins has brought to the program is invaluable.

She is not the tallest or perhaps the best shooter(though she is a fine shooter), but the best thing about her is the stuff you can't teach. Her will to compete and be the best, the attention to details, her leadership, and being clutch in key situations. That is why I would never bet against Skylar Diggins.

I will take Kayla McBride in a clutch situation over Diggins personally. Diggins is a great player but lets her emotions get the best of her from time to time. I actually believe they will be a better team next year without Skylar.

She does get a lot of extra hype for how she looks but give me Natalie Achonwa any day of the week!
