Well, while we are at it, did you know that the following laws were on the books:

US federal prohibits the decimation of false weather reports. This law protects the public from panic resulting from false reports of severe weather. Weather reports are predictions based on mathematical calculations and are thus subject to inaccuracies. Proving a weather report false is therefore extremely difficult but the FBI has investigated people who submit false reports to the National Weather Service.

A law that survives from the English Colony of New Haven, now Connecticut, 16-year-old boys may be put to death for disobeying, striking, or cursing his parents. Other rebellious behaviors apply.

Dog catchers in Denver, Colorado must notify dogs three days in advance of catching them. He or she must do this by posting signs where it is visible to dogs.

In Baltimore, MD it is illegal to scrub or wash a sink. No matter how dirty it gets, the act of washing a sink is illegal

Toledo, Ohio has a law on the books that bans women from wearing patent leather shoes in public.

Your juxtaposition of those seemingly nonsensical laws that are still on the books alongside the 13th amendment, outlawing slavery is..I don't know...ironic???

... Toledo, Ohio has a law on the books that bans women from wearing patent leather shoes in public.

There must have been an influential Catholic influence on the city council.

That is not true. I live in Toledo. The ban was only on the books for women that wore dresses, skirts or other open garments.

There must have been an influential Catholic influence on the city council.

Are you kidding? Msgr. Jerome Schmidt ran the Catholic Church and the City of Toledo for years.

No shiit dShans: My father was on the Catholic men's Tuesday eve Bowling league for years with police chiefs, sheriffs, councilmen, county commissioners, city atty's and county prosecutors, judges, politicians at the state and Federal level, union officials hell, even the county coroner. More importantly the people that ran everything bowled there too! My dad would come home and routinely tell us who was going to be elected, three to six months before election day. Where do you think "Holy Toledo" came from. The church and the government were as corrupt here as anywhere. I can show you two floors at the Plaza, across from the TMA (one of the ten best in the US), that were permanently rented by the Chicago and the New York mob.

I've only been to Toledo once. It was a one night stop between Minneapolis and NYC back in 1981. The fiancé and I gave a ride to a friend so he could spend time with his home town honey.

We heard nothing of local politics but learned a (not so) little something about male tortoises ... and hit Tony Packo's for dinner.

This story is so overrated.

You and I actually agree here.

While some of its citizens may still have anti black feelings it certainly does not apply Mississippi itself is anti black. At least not because of this.

I do think it is kind of funny.

It does not imply the Mississippi endorsed slavery in recent years. It was more of technical slimp up were they never sent in the paperwork.

Toledo, Ohio has a law on the books that bans women from wearing patent leather shoes in public.

Heres some other Ohio laws:

It is illegal to fish for whales on Sunday. (This one was always my favorite)
It is illegal to get a fish drunk.
The Ohio driver’s education manual states that you must honk the horn whenever you pass another car.
Participating or conducting a duel is prohibited.
Breast feeding is not allowed in public. (Revised 2005)
It is illegal for more than five women to live in a house. (My wife's family broke this one...and tbh, I can understand the need for this one ha)
It is illegal to mistreat anything of great importance.
No civil arrests may be made on Sunday or on the Fourth of July

I remember this being in my driver's education textbook in Florida in the mid sixties. I don't know if it's still there but it was a matter of courtesy and safety when two lane roads for travel were the rule. A polite toot (to this day) goes a long way.

[I'm not talking about a lay-on-the-horn action accompanied by an unheard stream of obscenities and raised middle fingers.]

Also, keeps you from being sideswiped! I am serious. People are taught in drivers ed today that they own the road.

And the funniest one, that no one has mentioned, is the Ohio State Assembly never voted to become a member of the United States of America. They discovered this in 1953, a hundred and fifty years later.

Exactly. It's as if the left believes that slaves are still bought and sold in the state to this day.
I bet Rick Maddow is all over this. "FINALLY!!! NO SLAVERY IN MISSISSIPPI"!!!

Give it a rest.

Holy sh*t. Slavery is a left/right issue?? WTF, Pat?

That didn't really make sense. I was talking about people who have to name and label EVERYTHING.
