ND needs to offer this kid. His offer sheet is getting ridiculous. I hope they are waiting for this class to get signed so they know how many schollies they are working with. Nd told this kid to work on his game and he did just that, Offer him.

Several reasons, from what I've read. But the biggest two are that scholarships are really limited next year and the staff are after higher prospects at both TE and OT. If he bulks up and they whif on their other pursuants, then he still could get one. Time will tell.

Could be many reasons right now. Perhaps the staff, knowing he is so high on the Irish, is waiting later than usual because they know his affinity for them, and would rather he assess all of his options from the major programs now rather than if and when major offers come in at points in the future. I'd rather have him check out all the major programs after him now and then commit rather than an early commit intrigued by big offers later, which happens all the time.

Perhaps the staff is waiting to see him again in person? It is still extremely early. If Junior Day comes and goes without an offer (assuming he is there), then I will question it more. But to me this is very different than a Bolden or Dorian Johnson situation. The staff has been in contact with Gibbons without, and told him that they like him and to be patient. With the others, it got to a point relatively early where they flat out said they were not going to be chasing them. I don't think that will happen with Reilly.

Just my opinion, but I think the staff is utilizing the extra time they have because of the unique circumstances to perform their due diligence on all of the OL options, and will act accordingly moving forward. If I had vbucks, I would bet he receives the ND offer by or on Junior Day. He has obviously put in the work, and deserves it. I'll take a great kid who really wants to be here, works extremely hard and is willing to do whatever the staff asks/needs any day of the week.

Patience. We haven't even gotten signed LOI from the 2013 class yet. Let's finish this recruiting cycle before we start worrying about early verbal commitments from a class that can't sign LOI for another year. Our coaching staff has done an excellent job at recruiting. We don't get everyone we'd like, but many high school athletes have no interest in Notre Dame or little interest in being too far from home. When the dust has settled and the coaching staff assesses the needs of the next recruiting class, many more offers will go out. Reilly may get his offer then. If not, the coaches may have decided that we have greater needs at other positions.

Kelly, Martin, Diaco, and the rest of the staff gave us a season to remember. It's been a long time since Notre Dame achieved at this level. They know what they are doing. Let them do their jobs.

reminding me of evan lisle from 2013.

situation wise, i think this is a lot more like Hunter Bivin - kid grew up a Huge ND fan and visited multiple times. he starts getting offers from EVERYONE and then ND waits until the end of January to offer him...we eventually land him on Jr day in March. Let's hope Gibbons gets his offer soon.

Staff must feel really good about McDermott, Cole, Smith, Jones, etc to have not offered yet

Or feels confident that they are on the same page with Reilly in terms of a scenario of how and when he gets his ND offer.

Either way thought, I think we are in consensus that we hope Reilly is offered by ND, and sooner rather than later.

I've read more than one place people theorizing he'll get an offer on junior day. Not sure I believe it, but it's out there.

I know BK said 3/5 OL recruits from last year will play inside and I think Byrne might play inside as well. Maybe it's possible the staff is looking more for Tackles and they see him as a guard. Clearly he's not 6'7 as previously reported. I dunno.

Why does everyone want this kid RIGHT NOW? The staff his a home run for OL recruiting last cycle. They've got limited numbers this year and have targeted kids that they covet. Reilly isn't in that top group. If he gets an offer he probably commits on the spot - which is why I think everyone wants that offer to go out in the first place. Personally, I think it's worth the risk to go after some of the bigger fish this year. Capitalize on last season's success. Keep recruiting Gibbons, maybe give him a conditional offer that's not committable. This kid is not an immediate take if the staff hasn't already offered.

Didn't mean to rant, it's just one of my pet peeves. Some kid that just finished his sophomore year says he's been a life long Irish fan. He gets ink because he's got interests from different colleges - maybe even an offer or two. Everyone around here (and other sites) can't wait to snatch him up. I just get frustrated. It's the same thing with Enoch Smith Jr. and Tommy Mister. Yeah, they have "offers", but they likely aren't committable. Just take a chill pill everyone - let Alford, Debrock, Diaco, Crooks, etc. start reeling in the big fish. Another 10 win season and we're looking at another top 5 class, even with less numbers. And at that point - you think you've seen recruiting? It's going to look like the SC class from 2013 BEFORE it fell apart....

I like your optimism. I think I'm one of the guilty party when it comes to recruiting. I am chillaxing more as the staff proves they can get it done with each recruiting class. It's so early right now I think I just need to sit back and wait for the big events this spring like Jr Day and the Spring Game. Well thought out post! I think you will fit in nicely here!

Thanks Yankee. I've been on II for about 5 or 6 years but was tired of dealing with Rivals bull crap so I cancelled my sub. Looks like I'll be spending more time posting here (although I do frequent II still when a buddy let's me read using his account - I know, I'm cheap).

I don't care how good the staff feels about McDermott, Mason Cole, etc.

Having too much depth in the trenches does not exist. Just ask Bama and look what they did on January 7th.

Just offer him

Unless I'm crazy, I don't think Alabama was constantly subbing OL in and about of the game to use their depth. Their OL was just better plain and simple, no?

No but good competition brings out the best in everyone. I'm sure Alabama doesn't have just 5 offensive linemen that can start

Arrowryan, would you rather take an instant commit from Gibbons or hold out and take Braden Smith. More competition doesn't always equal greater competition. Wait for better talent and the competition will be greater. Just my opinion.

That sounds like a great idea unless we whiff on Smith and Gibbons commits somewhere else and won't flip. There is a fine balance there and it is up to the coaches to get a read on the recruits, if they feel good about the other big time players they will hold off on the offer but if he comes up for Junior day and gets an offer then I am completely ok with it.

I would go crazy if we landed Braden Smith instead of Gibbons but I don't think the staff should rely on that happening. We've got burned on it before and we don't want that to happen again. If we only got one of Folston/Bryant and not both, we would be kicking ourselves for passing up on Corey Clement. Luckily we didn't have to deal with anything like that, the 2013 class just so happened to work out that way.

I actually hope we end up getting Gibbons. I like the fact that he likes us so much. Just my opinion, but when talented kids want in, you take em.

Basically. Nix was really the only consistent player up front and more then held his own against B. Jones. How much of Jones' injury played a factor? Something I don't think we will ever know but I'd like to think that Nix just was better that night against an all world talent in Jones.

I really like the interest Gibbons seems to have in Notre Dame, and he may very well earn a scholarship offer. However, the staff is limited in the number of scholarships available. They can't give one out to every football player who indicates an interest in Notre Dame.

If Gibbons really wants to be Irish, he may have to wait for his offer. You can't let your pride get in the way if you are reaching for the top. The offensive line is less a priority in 2014 than it was in 2013. We can afford to wait and let the coaches decide who they want and where these players fit into the scheme of things. Be patient, Reilly.
