Wow. I guess the Michigan-ND rivalry is done after 2014.

EDIT: Wow, "Conferences Games"? My bad.

They are kind of contractually obligated.

They can easily negotiate out of the game if they wanted to. There would obviously be a buyout involved, but if they wanted to get out of the game, Notre Dame would oblige. It's been widely rumored to be the case.

Money buys anything, but as of now they are under contract to play.

I actually would not be shocked if UM did not play the 2014 game @ ND.

Welp, I do see that happening to be honest. Dave Brandon has taken a stance of "Michigan doesn't back out deals" regarding the road game at uconn in September. He's been trying his hardest to move the game to Met Life Stadium to get more fans, split the revenue and get alums. OOC Road games are the anti-christ to him so I can see him not playing the 2014 game and making the Night Game in September the series finale.

With the 9-10 conference game schedule, I don't see this series resuming after the off period like people suggested. It may be for a very long before we see these teams play again.

Here is the 2014 non-conf-
8/30 vs Appalachian State (yes, not a typo)
9/6 at ND
9/13 vs Miami University (OH)
9/20 vs Utah

Tell me which one do you think Michigan would scrap? Keep in mind, we need lesser teams to prepare (and I hate saying that but it's true) and playing NU, ohio as well as ND on the road in 2014 doesn't look likely. App State and utah look like they will stay, IMO. Utah is mainly scheduled just so Michigan can open up the 2015 college football season, Thursday night on the road at utah. First back-to-back home and home we've seen here since Washington in 2001-2002.

Just going to be the first one to wish you luck on that part of the schedule.

I believe if you play a FCS opponent, you are automatically disqualified for any post-season play.

I mostly agree.

Only downside is the pay day helps FCS schools. It pays good if you are Western Carolina to lose by 60 to Alabama.

Interesting to see this. On the surface, it would seem that they want more games simply because the conference is growing.

However, I bet it also has something to do with "schedule perception." A B1G team will play 10 conference games, a mediocre OOC game, and maybe a bigtime opponent to make 12. They will say, "look, we have less room for cupcakes! Our schedule is getting much tougher with the addition of conference games!"

However, in reality, the extra B1G games will likely be "cupcake" type of games because of the underwhelming programs in the conference. On the surface, they would have you believe that more conference games means a tougher schedule. But that's just perception. Not much is changing, aside from maybe a lack of FCS schools.

The only way it actually makes the schedule tougher is if, for example, Ohio State had to play not only their division, but the top 4-5 teams from the other division as well, and didn't get a break by drawing the bottom dwellers of the other division.

Or I could be completely wrong: the B1G becomes the SEC with no weak teams and every team schedules both OOC games against top 25 opponents.

Your first points were correct. The point I bolded should be erased. Did you see the recruiting class rankings of the big10 this year?

I'm trying that new thing where I use sarcasm, but try to make it clear enough that I don't need italics.

It worked perfectly.

Thank God there are no more FCS games. So I guess that means the rematch with app is over with unless they jump to FBS.

So now I think we'll see Miami U and Utah.
