You know what? Right now it may very well be a USC/UCLA race. But I will bet anything that once we get him on campus, AT A MINIMUM, ND will be up there with those two, if not ahead of them. Magical things happen when we get these kids on campus. I'm sure this will be no different. That is why I'm putting absolutely no stock in what's being said right now, especially by west coast analysts.

This is exactly where I am. There are tell-tale signs in recruiting which hint that a kid is not buying what ND is selling. I don't see that with him. I think EV is going to be very interested in what he sees.

I really hope Jaylon shows up.

Jaylon should be in consideration for recruiter of the year. Guy is a stud on and off the field. I wonder how many recruits can be attributable to Jaylon.

Last I heard, Jaylon was for sure going to be on campus.

Yes, he's slated to be there. It's also important to remember that all 5 of our EEs are already on campus so the IrishMob13 will have a strong presence.

Yes, he's slated to be there. We'll also obviously have all 5 of our EEs there so that's a solid 6 guys from this class.

That's big, imo. From all accounts, those 5 especially (plus Jaylon) seem like the type of people you want to be around for 4 years. Strong character guys.

UCLA is in a VERY good spot here. I'd argue that they are in a better spot than USC. He is in constant contact with their coaches, with him initiating it many times.

The USC rivals mod called us a darkhorse. I'd agree with that. And after this weekend, we'll find out if we're still a darkhorse or a frontrunner along with the other 2 schools. (Bama doesn't scare me with this particular recruit.)

I think that's a really great assessment of how things stand. We'll know more after the OV.

I want to believe this, but temperatures will be sub-zero much for this weekend once wind chill is factored in. The effect weather has on recruits is commonly overstated, but Eddie is visiting during one of the most miserable times of the year.

Also one of the most beautiful.

Campus is definitely beautiful after a fresh snow, but it's difficult to enjoy that when your eyeballs are freezing in their sockets.

Whiskey's just a puss that grew up in Arizona and had to endure winters in SB.

EV is 40. He's a man. Whiskey, however, is merely a lowly Oklahoma State QB.

I think EV is from northern CA where it may snow. I'd have to double check.

Contrast that with this from this past weekend:

These girls in the quad at USC are out here tanning in bikinis looking beautiful..Might as well let me sign this letter of intent right now

Sounds like Hutch has the typical USC priorities. when they get into a "streetfight" they are soft. I've often thought that the "SoCal distractions" worked in our favor. Don't get me wrong...girls are good.

Seriously. For 7 years, I wintered in South Bend and summered in Phoenix. I'm clearly not a smart man.

Once, during my 2L, I had to walk from O'Hara-Grace to the law school on what turned out to be the coldest day of the year (something like -30 with wind chill). I thought I was sufficiently bundled, but I apparently needed goggles, too. By the time I got there, my eyes felt weird and I had a killer headache.

Is that a thing? The cold damaging your eyes and causing a wicked headache? Maybe I'm just a thin-blooded vajayjay.

Supposed to be 20 or so degrees warmer than last weekend. Cold but not to the point where skin air contact is painful. Actually perfect temp because it preserves the snow and everything looks pretty. Better than 40 and muddy.

Careful-- OMM and dshans may start telling us about how they had to walk to school, uphill (both ways, to be sure), in the snow. 90% chance OMM was barefoot too, he's from WV.

They may tell us anecdotal stories of the Pony Express and Telegraphs too.

But no matter-- OMM, dshans, and Eddie Vanderdoes are all tough guys!

1. I can tell you with 100% certainty that this happens. I wrote about this a couple of years ago. I took my class on a field trip to USC as part of a mentor program we were in with USC students. So the USC leaders are doing their lessons with my class, outside in the quad. And it's May and 95 degrees that day. And that's when the girls come out to tan in their bikinis. I'm like, WTF??? There were no 10's, but there were a whole bunch of 8's. I'm TRYING not to stare; luckily I had a great class and the boys were really chill, so that wasn't a problem. But their teacher? I was just trying to look without being caught LOL. But I pulled it off. I've got a little bit of class.

2. Hutchings and Kaliel Rodgers were tweeting all weekend about the girls. Like non-stop on Friday. USC fans were lapping it up, basically blowing them on Twitter over their comments. To me, I don't know, I wouldn't have loved it if an ND player did that. I'm not talking about trying to get some, but I'm talking about going public with it. Both those dudes were embarrassing. I'm more of an 'act like you've been there before' kinda guy I guess, and these dudes were acting like it was the first time they ever saw women. Hutchings even retweeting a Manti/fake girlfriend joke from a USC fan, so he's a dude I'd like to see embarrassed by ND.

Again, not saying don't chase the bunnies, cause ND players are doing that too, but show a little class. Respect your parents by not putting all that out there for the public to consume. That's how I'd want my kids to act anyway...

He's from Auburn. It's in the foothills in Northern California and it does snow there, but hardly ever and never that much.

wikipedia said:
Snow rarely falls in Auburn; average annual snowfall is only 1.0 inch (25 mm).[9] The most snowfall in one year was 10.7 inches (270 mm) in 1972, including 6.5 inches (170 mm) in January 1972.[10]

It doesn't get anywhere near Great Lakes cold front cold. It's 40 degrees in Auburn today, for example, but we're not experiencing any low pressure systems in Northern California right now. Average temperatures for January are a high of 54.5 degrees and a low of 37.6 degrees.

Some observations:

The weather: Totally irrelevent if the guy is serious about Notre Dame. Weather is a major factor if one is retiring. Weather is a major factor if one is making a move to a more or less permanent home. Moving means nothing as a place to attend university...4 years with Xmas and summer off. The attraction of Notre Dame is largely a lifetime benefit vs. 4 years of $hitty winters. No contest.

The girls: Totally irrelevent. An excess of gorgeous babes may be important to you or I. But to a high profile football star, it means zero. A guy like EV knows he can find plenty of 10/10s in South Bend and what is more important smart 10/10s. It is only you and I who need an overabundance of girls so that we can go after Eddie's leftovers.

Who is leading: Who cares? EV has not been on campus. After he visits every thing changes, bc then he will know what he is comparing.

I have a good feeling about this one. His interviews suggest to me that EV is considering ND for the exact right reasons and that makes me think the OV will turn his head in a big way.

Any time a recruit brings his parents on the OV I think that's great for us. Our history and academic standards for our athletes is something every parent wants to hear about a school.

auburn is a stone's throw from tahoe. anyone who lives up there knows about winters in the mountains. i'm sure he's spent many a day at northstar, heavenly, squaw, etc. south bend winter weather shouldn't faze him.
