It might, but right now Saban is gonna milk this for all the TEAM motivation he can squeeze.

Barrett Jones, the 3 time All-American, The Heart and Brains of Bama's OLine, is being couched in the Willis Reed "Game 7" and Curt Schilling "Bloody Sock" role.

"Barrett gave up his crutches for this game! What are you going to give to bring home a championship?"

Nix may win the battle, Saban's scheming to win the war.

You are an oracle. Truly.

Wow.

Simply topped by a "Win one for the Gipper, fellas."

Does ND ever run any trick plays? I watched a little bit of the games on cbssports today (when are they going to show the Bama games?) and didn't see any.

I'm just curious because it seems like every NCG has a trick play or two in it.

In the past we did, but this year it was rare (if at all?), because Kelly rode the defense and the offensive line/running game and played things really conservatively, and for good reason.

It's funny you bring this up, cause I was just thinking about this today! It'll be interesting if both coaches decide to stay conservative or just throw caution to the wind and try some new things. My $ is on conservative...

Ha. Kelly has been VERY conservative in his play calling this year because the defense has been so strong ... Hasn't had much need to take a lot of risks. Not sure what you consider a "trick" play, but the only one I can think of off the top of my head is one where we had a WR who played QB in high school throw a (terrible) pass. Now, we run a lot of misdirection plays, counters and such, but I don't think that's what you are asking about.

We tried a couple of John goodman throws but they didn't work this year. I actually expect to see some form of a trick play, or something we haven't seen at all before from this team (whether new formation, etc)

(shhh, promise not to tell Saban! After two years of not allowing the punt return team to throw a block Kelly's gonna take their handcuffs off.)

He was able to work out a lot. Bike, treadmill, pool, and weights were still available and used. But, you are correct, he was not doing football moves.

More importantly, I think...... he was not making football moves on his bum foot, leg, whatever it is. Working against a guy like Louis Nix is going to require every ounce of athleticism that you have. While Jones may have been able to participate in some drills, I doubt that they have simulated the stress that he is going to put on his bum foot/ankle/leg(?). So, really....... it's possible that he will not be full go all game. If he needs help to handle Nix later in the game, it could very well hinder the running game, and maybe even make Alabama's offense rather one dimensional. In a game like this, any advantage you can get could turn out to be key.

Nothing weight bearing at all until today?

He has reportedly been on the treadmill and in the weight room for a few days. Apparently, they wanted to limit lateral movement.

Today he was in a full contact jersey and showed full movement with no pain. His foot, however, was taped.

Hopefully the Dolphin is as good as the Paul the Octopus (the one who picked the World Cup)!

Friday jan 4 at 4 pm central
Monday jan 7 at 7 am central.

This is according to my directv search.

Also, I don't know if you've been to the actual Championship game, but do you know how the tailgating works? Do you have to have those Fan Zone passes to tailgate outside the stadium?

From a Bama poster on a Bama forum..............

I think their offense might be able to take advantage of field position if their defense is as good as advertised. This game is the one unknown in the 3 national championships to me. I really felt that colt wouldnt be able to light the scoreboard up on us in 09 and i really thought we would be able to beat LSU by two scores after seeing all the missed oppurtunities in the 1st game. I really dont know much about notre dame because they play a PAC12/Big 10 schedule and they really got hyped up when it looked liked two undefeateds were going to be left out, and the amount of breaks they have gotten makes you think of Auburn 10, just quirky things go their way. I'll give them a td in my prediction, but given the fact that Saban is given a month to prepare makes me feel better that the quirky things are limited. 27-13

Does anyone know why Kelly wasn't given a month to prepare?

The benefit of the doubt will always go to the guy (Saban) who has done it, not just in Alabama but nationally. We all know what BK can do, but we're obsessed with all things ND football. This is the game that not only puts ND football firmly back on the map (top of it), but also establishes BK in a far more elevated status that he enjoys today. I have to think he's awfully motivated by that. Just imagine beating the great Nick Saban in a NCG when Saban had a month+ to prepare. That's about as good as it gets for a head coach.

You didn't hear? The NCAA secretly used hired mercenaries and put Kelly under strick quarantine. He is not allowed so much as too look at Alabama game film, draw up any plays, write up any play calling scripts, or doing any sort of preparation until 1 hour before kickoff. Kelly is going to really have to cram.

The Kelly at the practices leading up to the game is a fake look alike. We won't get the really Kelly back until the game. NCAA is propably coming after me now to keep my quiet so if I don't post anymore you know why.
