".... showed great hands...." THIS is the best news I get from this report. Coach played Theo, in my opinion, much more over Cierre because of the dual serious running AND pass receiving threat. Kelly REALLY wants that guy who can run a good intermediate route and catch the ball.

His spread out offense gets all the DBs out of the way, and isolates linebackers on people they can't cover and are coming from unexpected directions quickly. It will be very interesting to see who of Carlisle, Mahone, or Bryant can best do this. [this is, by the way, why I don't see GAIII getting bulk snaps unless he really upgrades his ability in the area of route-running and catching --- non-fumbling would be a good idea too].

Maybe my favorite guy [Cam McDaniel] will move to slot and be our Toma. That would simplify the logjam somewhat for Bryant et al and not waste a real talented athlete. So, I'm all behind Bryant now coming in and showing the Rip-Power and Catching Skill --- and who knows, maybe a shared primary RB responsibility even this coming year.

The slot receiver was primarily under-underutilized this year, Kelly favoured Riddick over Toma more because he could be used a majority of ways. Sending McDaniel to backup Neal would still be wasting a real talented athlete. Carisle and Bryant seem to be next seasons "Riddick", and the way we use our RB's in the passing game, provides enough judgement to say that the slot receiver role will again by under-underutilized again next season.

SO unless McDaniel can beat out a plethora of running backs, I guarantee you that he wont see much of the field next season, barring injuries of course.

I just want to say how much I really really enjoy seeing the words "Notre Dame Verbal" next to his name! 3, 2 maybe even 1 year ago, the way his recruitment played out in our favour, next would have happened.

SO hats off to coach kelly and the staff for their resilience and dedication on the recruiting trail!

very happy to hear about how solid his hands are. I'm not sure about the hand of the other RB's. I'd love to see 2 rb sets vs Alabama and in the future in which one rb splits into the slot while the other rb runs another route and both can catch the ball. How dangerous would ND be if another RB could do this now and mirror Theo. That would really spread the field and open it up more for our TE's. How about 2 TE, 2RB I formation power running formations in which they empty the backfield and can all catch the ball. Good luck covering that!

Pretty sure he started his "career" as a wide receiver. And many thought he would go that way.

Notre Dame RB commit Greg Bryant has some serious burst. He was the top RB for the East in the afternoon practice and it has carried over to today.

The problem with your whole hypothesis is not running back or slot personnel. You cannot use this year as a measure of anything, because of quarterback development. Early on the staff made a decision to "open up quarterback competition." Read find a different solution. Game to game the passing game was tailored to Everett's development. See the NC game for a better idea of the future of these positions. I don't think even Bob Diaco would like to have to plan for the future ND offense. So in a word, I think the slot is going to become poison for defenses. Though it will be changed, the Stanford defense is one that would be very susceptible to the kind of slot play you will see.

Cam has serious hands, reall acceleration (burst), knows the system and has the coaches trust. Kelly likes to interchange players, (read slot). See McDaniel and Neal killing corners next year, in tandem.

What if ND has a big threat wide and inside? These guys are going to make a massive living off opposing defenses.

Hands are a big asset, but the other item is the ability to block.

Oh yeah. Cam really can do that can't he? What game had that long drive that he ran the ball all but about three plays down the field for a TD? On one of the other plays in particular he had a CRUSHING block, the violence of which convinced me he really knew how to block. Sorry I totally missed that one. That is enough for a back to play, all other things being equal.

Going to end up as one of the best running backs to have played for the Irish in the last 25 years-IMO!
