On the Bama boards they believe that by starting looking at their opponent this early we are "overthinking" things and will psyche ourselves out by over game-planning. They think BK will learn a lot "from the master" after this NC game on how to prepare.

Correct if I'm wrong though the early practices have not been on Alabama. More preseason camp type practices focusing on player developement across the board especially are younger guys like Golson.

There's a difference between practicing football and preparing for an opponent. ND doesn't need 4-6 weeks to prepare for one opponent but they do need to keep the football aspect alive.

Work on the small details, refresh the memories of the players, and keep the conditioning levels high. Then you are able to dive into the Alabama game plan without having to worry about the small stuff.

You truly only need 1 week to prepare for somebody with 2 being the max.

Study him long enough and he could learn how to oversign, Greyshirt, cut players errr student athletes and any number of other shady/illegal things.

Yeah, coaches always say that bowl practice is more like spring practice than anything. It's an opportunity not just to prepare for a particular opponent but work on global things and really get better.

The only real question is it better to shutdown competely and have a lot of days to really turn it on at the end? (Bama)

Or is better to never competely shut it down and then to have just enough days left to maybe turn it up a little bit more at the finish? (ND)

Agree...saw a big jump in our boys when they went to hawaii a few years back...not just because the competition was weak. Jimmy, in particular, made a huge leap during that time...in fact the entire offense looked....BETTER. Similar deal only with the D for Miami in the bowl...last year was flat line...but no new guys where you'd see a huge jump.

I expect EG might get the Jimmy effect...he'll look more like the EG we'll have next year than the EG we had even later this season...Watch out!

In Rocky's case, it's best to visit Siberia and bust your a-s 24-7 until the big fight.

From Eric Hanson chat:

"Eric Hansen:
I don't think it's about money with Diaco, and the coach-in-waiting thing rarely works. Since BK is only 51, Diaco my be waiting a long time. Eventually he will get the job he wants (Iowa?) and Kelly will be happy for him, and ND will make another great hire to replace him. All they did this year when they lost three assistants was get to the national championship game."

Don't know if there has been communication between Brian Kelly and the staff. I would think there has been.

That said even if there has not Bob Diaco and the rest of the staff got to step up right now. Got to get a hold of these recruits and reassure them.
