Any chance of an Aquaman movie? This would be a good time to introduce a gay hero in society.
Lookin forward to picking up Argo when it hits Netflix, Lincoln too.. Saw Dark Knight and Skyfall......... To each their own there

Wait... so you come here complaining that Hollywood doesn't make movies with any substance. Then when they do (Argo, Lincoln), you don't go see them? That's exactly the problem. If you are not willing to support good quality movies, don't complain when they make ****.
I have an eight month old at home so going to the movies at all this year has been hard... typically, I rush to see movies like that...
Green Lantern is gay. Didn't you hear? It was pretty big news early this year.
I think it's important to know that movies are primarily a director's art and television is a writer's art. The benefit of these studios simply recycling unoriginal comics and remakes is that they 1) don't need great writers, so 2) they aren't paying for great writers.
As a result, a lot of the writers have gone to television. AMC, HBO, and Showtime have been benefiting from this. Even Quentin Tarantino has stated that he could see himself retiring from Hollywood (in disgust for what it has become) and writing seven-hour miniseries for HBO and just going that route; he already has all of the money he'll ever need and is a die-hard film maker who cares solely about the product.
My point is, there is a reason we are in the heyday of television right now. TV has never been better and a part of that is thanks to Hollywood's drive for profit over art, more artists have simply gone to television and I love it.
To be totally honest with you, I haven't gotten out to see many. I mostly wait six months and get the torrent.haha
I will be going to see Lincoln, Django Unchained, and The Hobbit though. Those are guaranteed A+ movies. Argo, Looper, and The Master I have heard nothing but great things.
I'm a drama guy, and generally don't care for the action, but have heard great things about Skyfall and The Avengers. I am in the minority in that I didn't like The Dark Knights Rises at all, after absolutely loving The Dark Knight. Moonrise Kingdom isn't my cup of tea but I enjoyed it; Wes Anderson isn't one of my favorites.
I think I remember reading about how revenue goes up for movies during recessions, because families are taking fewer vacations and are spending their disposable income in theaters. I wonder if production companies are putting out more movies as a result.
Nolan wrote the script, i think this will have some substance when it comes to the story
Hobbit.... ugh... you can't possibly tell me that movie will add anything new to that series... I saw all it could show me in the first hour of the first movie... just don't get it I guess.
no. nolan had script approval and some doctoring but it is not his script. it is david s goyer's. who co-wrote the nolan batman films.
but the rest of your argument is correct. it will be a humanized version without being emo like superman returns
Um, yeah. New to the series? They aren't remaking boloney because its cheap to do, it's The Hobbit--an even better book than the Lord of The Rings are!
Ahh damnit you're right. Thanks buddy
dont mention it. movies are what i do.
You and me both, what are your favorite movies of the year?
sad thing...ive been doing a lot of traveling recently and i havent seen many of the "oscar favorites" yet.
at this point, i'd say "dark knight rises", is my favorite. but i have yet to see argo, lincoln, life of pi, hobbit etc. basically anything thats opened in the last 3 months.
enjoyed hunger games (mostly because i got to see my work on screen, one of the hardest movies ive ever worked on). liked the new spider man. thought it was a close representation of the comics. didnt mind snow white, accept for the end. i liked brave a lot. had a blast at anvengers. this means war was fun. and i thought the acting in lawless was top notch even though i didnt like the story.
i hated killing them softly. and i really enjoyed skyfall (saw it last night).
ill be catching up now. i have free time. AND by being a member of directors guild of america, i get into movies for free for oscar season!
Ahh that's a bummer.....I really enjoyed killing them softly even though I know its definitely not for everyone. And yeah you're right the acting in lawless was incredible

what could have possibly enjoyed? i'm not trying to be an arse either. i found nothing compelling or interesting about it. some of the cinematography but even that gets like a 6/10.
overall, i'd give this a movie about 2/10
I really cant explain why I liked it, I have always liked dialogue heavy movies so that may be the reason. Also Andrew Dominik is one of my favorite directors so I may be a bit biased. And no worries buddy I knew you weren't trying to be an arse, just a little bit of healthy debate
i enjoy dialog movies as well. but, what did any of this dialog have to do with anything that the film was trying to say? it was a bunch of guys talking about their d!cks and screwing girls. added nothing to the film and helped the plot in no way.
also, direction was weak in my opinion. every scene was just two people sitting and talking. there was nothing dynamic in the blocking.
i cant stand when a film takes something gratuitous like violence and add ballet music to make it "artistic". i thought this movie was garbage from opening frame. it couldve been good. but the message was beaten over the audiences head, we get it...there was no subtext. the thematic element was topical and weak.
I can see why you feel that way. Like i said something about just grabbed me and pulled me in and i really cant explain why. Have you seen his previous movie the assassination of jesse james?
i havent yet. but i read an interesting article today about this movie and they talked about it. brad pitt has said that that film hasnt reached its potential yet (i think it was a $30M budget and made $8--huge flop). pitt said this movie is like wine and will just get better over time. we'll see. ill check it out. i know i wanted to see it. just havent had a chance.
Any list that doesn't include Act of Valor, is a list that sucks.
...and the envelope says "movies with amateur acting and a plot so simple a child could write it."
Michael Bay has that category locked down.
