Awesome, and even got the treat of the remake of The Lone Ranger coming. My big wish- a well done remake of Jim Thorpe All American.

The movie i want to see most is a film made about knute rockne, and have paul giamatti play him. I have obviously thought about this a few times lol

This very well could be an awesome movie and I will definitely see it, but this is a rewrite of who Superman is.

this will be amazing. I know Henry, he really is perfect for the part. And I've heard nothing but great things about it from the people at the WB's lot. Should be awesome.

I've never been a huge Superman fan, but the fact that Christopher Nolan is directing makes this a must-see. That man's a genius and almost singlehandedly resurrected the Batman brand, in a series of movies I'd say could be one of the best of all time.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Nolan didn't direct this. He is producing it.

I can't say if it's of a similar situation of Spielberg's role in Poltergeist, or more similar to Peter Jackson's role in District 9. I'm guessing it's the latter.

I am honestly ready for Hollywood to start making movies of substance again, instead of retreading old ideas for an easy buck...

anyway, if it's your thing have fun, most of my friends can't stop talking about this and films like it... while I sit there like Stan in that "everything sucks" episode of south park and just see nothing but ****. lol

Well what do you expect? Corporations are catering to the lowest common denominator. This happened with music a quarter-century ago, now you have to actually search a bit for great music. There are still a ton of great movies out there, you might just have to look a bit more.

I'll even go on record saying that 2012 is/was the best year for movies since 1994, and maybe topping even that. Pulp Fiction/Shawshank Redemption/Forrest Gump is awfully tough to top though. This year has more depth though.

Music and Movies in general has ALWAYS sucked. The good stuff you have to look for. Think about when you were a teenager and thought how The Backstreet Boys sucked and how stupid Men In Black was. Why isn't Mos Def more popular and why hasn't anyone seen Fargo.

There are still great movies being made every year, you just aren't bombarded with billboards and commercials for them. Moonrise Kingdom, The Master, The Raid, Killing Them Softly, Looper, Argo, and that's off the top of the head.

Regarding your issue with substance. Movies are a business, and a business is in it to make profits. As long as movies Transformers continue to make $300 million in the box office, the studio will keep making them a priority.

Transformers 1: $700m+
Transformers 2: $830m+
Transformers 3: $1,123m+

Or the female equivalent:

Twilight 1: $392m+
Twilight 2: $709m+
Twilight 3: $698m+
Twilight 4: $712m+
Twilight 5: $752m+

It's sorta depressing. haha

But hey, we live in a world where the average person watches horrendous television and mediocre movies, listens to awful music, drinks Bud Light (aka the worst beer), and eats a steady diet of literally various poisons. What did you expect?

Superman Returns should be erased from all levels of historical record. More damage to the brand than anything and leaves me hesitant to see another Superman movie.

Now Marvel's work with the Avengers and their franchise of characters is pretty good IMO.

and Buster:
its the studios use of the 4 quadrant theory that propels the tent-poles that we have today.
some movies aim at only one quadrant. movies like titanic nail directly in the middle of all 4 quadrants.
(quadrants are male and female, old and young.)
the largest group of ticket buyers are young males--the double edged sword is that hollywood knows this, so only really caters to that crowd. hence, video game movies.

Pretty sure that's how the original Clark was though. Comic nerds need to see that nerds can be heroes too....

Well to be fair i enjoy movies with substance as well, nothing wrong with enjoying both. With that being said go see killing them softly. I liked it, its about as far away from hollywood as you can get

If Snyder's other films are any indication, this will be a film with gorgeous visuals and little else.

I think it's important to know that movies are primarily a director's art and television is a writer's art. The benefit of these studios simply recycling unoriginal comics and remakes is that they 1) don't need great writers, so 2) they aren't paying for great writers.

As a result, a lot of the writers have gone to television. AMC, HBO, and Showtime have been benefiting from this. Even Quentin Tarantino has stated that he could see himself retiring from Hollywood (in disgust for what it has become) and writing seven-hour miniseries for HBO and just going that route; he already has all of the money he'll ever need and is a die-hard film maker who cares solely about the product.

My point is, there is a reason we are in the heyday of television right now. TV has never been better and a part of that is thanks to Hollywood's drive for profit over art, more artists have simply gone to television and I love it.

What 2012 films did you like?

To be totally honest with you, I haven't gotten out to see many. I mostly wait six months and get the torrent. :( haha

I will be going to see Lincoln, Django Unchained, and The Hobbit though. Those are guaranteed A+ movies. Argo, Looper, and The Master I have heard nothing but great things.

I'm a drama guy, and generally don't care for the action, but have heard great things about Skyfall and The Avengers. I am in the minority in that I didn't like The Dark Knights Rises at all, after absolutely loving The Dark Knight. Moonrise Kingdom isn't my cup of tea but I enjoyed it; Wes Anderson isn't one of my favorites.

I think I remember reading about how revenue goes up for movies during recessions, because families are taking fewer vacations and are spending their disposable income in theaters. I wonder if production companies are putting out more movies as a result.

Hobbit.... ugh... you can't possibly tell me that movie will add anything new to that series... I saw all it could show me in the first hour of the first movie... just don't get it I guess.
