I have had enough of this phrase. I can't listen to any broadcast or highlight show anymore with out having to hear someone justify their opinion by appealing to "the eye test."

What are some other things that people in sports overuse? What phrases get on your nerves?

A couple more to get started:

"Presence of mind" when referencing a guy doing exactly what he was supposed to do. Example: "Boy, the presence of mind of that quarterback to find an open receiver despite being under pressure."

"Elite"- don't think it needs much explanation. Sick of hearing the elite discussion about everything from quarterbacks to pizza.

"He's out with a knee"....rrrrrrrggg! He's out with a knee INJURY!!!! Al Michaels made that term famous, and now everyone uses it. Small thing I know, but it's just a pet peeve of mine. Can't stand it when they say "He's out with an ankle" or something like that.

It is what it is I guess...

"Ton of credit." Referring to giving a guy props for doing a good job. I picked up on Mike Mayock overusing it the past couple of years for ND games. But now I am hearing it from a lot more sports commentators and desk analysts.

When discussing QB's, "all he does is win games" or "he's a winner"

Football is a team sport, the Quarterback isn't catching his own passes and blocking for himself too

WARNING - Nerd Alert Ahead

The one that drives me nuts happens so often in basketball games and has been going on for years. When one team is ahead by 5 points, why do they say, "there is a 5 point differential". Really? I would love to put on an El Guapo outfit and in an accent ask them, "do you even know what a differential is? A: No El Guapo." A differential describes the change in a function. Please show me the func.tion equation for the score of the game. It is a difference between the scores! A difference! Not a bloody differential.

Not from an announcer, and it actually makes sense, but Brian Kelly says "day to day basis" at least 5 times per press conference. And it gets old after a whole season.

My old high school coaches always used to say, "buckle up than chinstrap..." You don't buckle a chinstrap, you snap it.

Another coach kellyism: 'relative to' instead of 'with regard to.'

Hell and all this time I thought a differential was a car part!

A term being over used by a local sports guy is "legendary".
