I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that they quickly make Bivin an interior lineman at ND.

If Hegarty really is gone, wow...

But, I betcha Hanratty would be the center then. I think Watt comes back, I don't think Martin does.

So, if Hegarty is gone:
Lombard
Watt
Hanratty
??
???

It'd be interesting for those last two. I'd say Nick Martin plays one of those two spots. Any Ronnie Stanley love?

If that's our scenario in 2013, our offense is f*cked next season. Only 2 returning OL starters = really bad news

I must not be understanding this statement. To me it says that they will be getting medical hardships. Doesn't that mean, they can come back?

No, taking a medical ends one's college career.

I dunno, we're used to consistency, but I'd say only returning two starters is pretty standard for the rest of the teams in the country. Do you think Martin comes back? Just a hunch but I lean towards no.

I think draft stock and whether or not we win the NCG will determine if Z Martin comes back.

I also believe with the development of Golson from now til next season that a less experienced line won't matter as much as this year.

Replacing 2 starters is pretty standard. Replacing 3+ is almost always bad news.

Most insiders have been indicating that he's more likely to return than not, mostly because he wants to play with his brother. But his recent draft projections have been very high. If he gets a 2nd round grade, he'd be silly not to take it. Since he lacks prototypical size for an NFL OT, that's about as good as he can realistically hope for.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Diaco moves on...

Medical hardship = career ending condition = no longer on an active athletic scholarship, but on a full ride as a non-football participant.

Neither situation is even close to final/official... so don't put too much weight on things now.

People do sometimes use "medical" to refer to a medical redshirt year, i.e., a second redshirt year due to injury. As others have pointed out, Lax was referring to a medical scholarship, i.e., a scholarship that a player receives because of a career-ending injury and that won't count against our 85-football-scholarship limit because the player is no longer physically able to perform. The terminology can be confusing.

If you are going to have O-line depth issues, it helps to have guys who can play either guard or tackle (N. Martin and Lombard). But that's just looking on the bright side ... it's not a great situation.

Some f these freshman may be playing for starting jobs. Are any of our incoming lineman EE? At least that way they'd have spring and summer to get on the weights and start learning from the coaches

Elmer's early enrolling is huge. I think he plays next year.

You would think one of the guards would have a better shot, as hopefully Martin comes back to bookened with Lombard, and then have Stanley as the next man in there. It is the interior in which we are lacking the needed depth right now.

My thought is that Lombard looks to be the only guy physically ready, bu I was not picking him to start unless Martin leaves.

I wonder if Martin would want to move inside since he is apparently projected as an OG in the NFL?

If everyone leaves and Heggarty is out, I could see the line being Elmer--Lombard--N. Martin--Heggarty--Stanley.

You mean Hanratty? Who plays center? Was that a position Harrell may be groomed for? I don't think N Martin was targeted for C.

Harrell is definitely a C. Hanratty seems to be ahead of him on the depth chart though.

Didn't relize that Hanratty was targeted there, thought G. That's a bit of good news if he has been training there and Harrell is the understudy. Going to be difficult to replace Cave's production.

I mean Hanratty at OG. I had high hopes for Heggarty- now I just want him to get healthy.

Everyone is aware that we could legitimately finish with Redfield, AQM, Braynt, Treadwell, right? That's 3 5-stars and a high 4-star. It's a big if, but that finish could make this ND's best ever recruiting class. I wouldn't hate it

If Martin leaves I think it is likely:

Tackles- N. Martin, Stanley
Guards- Watt, Lombard,
Center- Hanratty

Treadwell is going to Ole Miss

Do you mean: he's looking hard at Ole Miss-that he committed to Ole Miss-that his Mom loves Ole Miss-?

Or was this supposed to be: Treadwell is going to Ole Miss.

Or was your statement an opinion?

Thanks for any clarification.

You thought right. Hanratty reps at OG primarily, but IIRC, he did some cross-training at C during fall camp.

I think you have N. Martin and Lombard switched

Possibly.... My reasoning was that earlier in the year it was stated that if Tate started (instead of Golic) he would play tackle and Lombard would be moved to guard. I took from this that Lombard may have some flexibility. On the current depth chart N.Martin is the back up tackle so my thinking was they would plug Martin into tackle and move over Lombard but I could be wrong.

Martin has also been training to be a G as well as T. I think Martin would be a better guard then Lombard but I could be wrong.
