Notre Dame football: Mother says Wood is '70-30' lean to NFL - chicagotribune.com
One great season, then:
One great season, then:
I did not know Wood has a daughter. He is getting his degree, has a child to support, and will hopefully soon be a National Champion. I say go to the NFL. When you already have a degree, a great Senior season to always remember, and a child to support then the risk of injury in returning for a 5th year is probably too great. Especially when RBs have short shelf lives.

Man I crapped the bed there.
look no futher than Marcus Lattimore. There aren't many Willis Mcgahee's and Adrian Peterson's who are fourtnante to overcome knee injuries like thiers.I did not know Wood has a daughter. I am torn on this. I understand his rationale for wanting to leave, like many of you mentioned the shelf life of RB's and injuries. However, I can't help but think how dominate he would be if he came back and was the feature back next year. His season sort of reminds me of Darius Walker's when he left early. Had a good year but not great. I understand that Darius was a junior and Cierre is a senior, but looking at their final seasons they are similar.
Pains me to say it, and I hope he stays, but honestly, he should probably go. He can essentially intern as a backup RB in the NFL for roughly $400,000 and try and play his way into a big contract in a couple years. I don't think he's going to play himself into the top 2 rounds next year. I really think staying would only be the difference between being a 5th/6th rounder this year and a 3rd/4th rounder next year.
I'm not advocating he should stay, but what percent would you put him at getting drafted? With all the RBs in circulation, I think it could be pretty low, although he would get try outs and latch on somewhere I'm sure.
Wood is a good running back but he wasn't one of the Top 20 running backs in the nation this year. He didn't see as much time this year as i thought he would. My feeling is he'd be the main RB for us next year and establish himself as a Top 5 RB in the nation and probably be picked in the first two rounds. He didn't have a better year than Riddick and will Riddick even get drafted?

If he has his degree...then go. If not, stay.
Daughter or not...if he has his degree, that also protects him from an injury that can happen in the NFL. If he jumps ship and doesn't get his education finished, he may be without football AND an education.
And we're stacked at RB anyway....
I typically want to see kids stay in school and get their degree first just in case, but since CW already has his degree I think this is the best for him when he has a child to support. You just never know when the injury bug will hit.
I think CW is a much better back than Darius Walker was. I know a lot of people may disagree, but I thought DW fell short of expectations and made a big mistake leaving early.
To me Lattimore would be better suited to stay in school and prove to the NFL that he can recover and play at a high level. He will go late in the draft and may actually end up a FA because of his history. Most teams won't want to put much risk into him.
The only problem I have with him leaving...Is that where does he fall? I mean, he doesn't really have the production and isn't better than guys like Bell, Barner, Franklin, Ball,Taylor....And most of those guys won't be in the first round.
We're all Irish fans and just assuming that he'll jump on and get a job...what if he doesnt?
I see his dilema, but I also think that, as the feature back next year, he'd be drafted in the first 3 rounds for sure.
And yes, he risks injury...but he could blow a knee in his first pratice in the NFL as well.
