I did not know Wood has a daughter. He is getting his degree, has a child to support, and will hopefully soon be a National Champion. I say go to the NFL. When you already have a degree, a great Senior season to always remember, and a child to support then the risk of injury in returning for a 5th year is probably too great. Especially when RBs have short shelf lives.

We've known this for a few weeks. If he has his degree and wants to get paid, that's fine man, good luck to you. Thanks for the hard work. I can't say I would do anything different in his scenario.

look no futher than Marcus Lattimore. There aren't many Willis Mcgahee's and Adrian Peterson's who are fourtnante to overcome knee injuries like thiers.
do it while you're healthy young man.

I am torn on this. I understand his rationale for wanting to leave, like many of you mentioned the shelf life of RB's and injuries. However, I can't help but think how dominate he would be if he came back and was the feature back next year. His season sort of reminds me of Darius Walker's when he left early. Had a good year but not great. I understand that Darius was a junior and Cierre is a senior, but looking at their final seasons they are similar.

If he has his degree...then go. If not, stay.

Daughter or not...if he has his degree, that also protects him from an injury that can happen in the NFL. If he jumps ship and doesn't get his education finished, he may be without football AND an education.

And we're stacked at RB anyway....

Pains me to say it, and I hope he stays, but honestly, he should probably go. He can essentially intern as a backup RB in the NFL for roughly $400,000 and try and play his way into a big contract in a couple years. I don't think he's going to play himself into the top 2 rounds next year. I really think staying would only be the difference between being a 5th/6th rounder this year and a 3rd/4th rounder next year.

I agree with what you are saying about the money, but as we have seen in the last year, the NFL's money is not always as attractive as we would like to think ala Eifert and Te'o. However I think he has the talent and ability to work himself into one of the first few rounds of the draft.

I'm not advocating he should stay, but what percent would you put him at getting drafted? With all the RBs in circulation, I think it could be pretty low, although he would get try outs and latch on somewhere I'm sure.

Ya I agree. I would say Theo has a better chance than he does. It seems to be the trend that NFL teams over-sign on Rb's because they know that 1)most don't pan out and 2) they do not last long. Like I said, it reminds me of Darius Walker, had a good year but nothing that would make you look twice. I think the money may cloud his judgement.

Wood is a good running back but he wasn't one of the Top 20 running backs in the nation this year. He didn't see as much time this year as i thought he would. My feeling is he'd be the main RB for us next year and establish himself as a Top 5 RB in the nation and probably be picked in the first two rounds. He didn't have a better year than Riddick and will Riddick even get drafted?

Wood still needs to run upfield more. He still tends to want to bounce runs outside. He can't outrun college players and won't in the NFL. Still, he's got a good combination of size and speed. I think he'll have an NFL career.

110 carries for 740 yards with a sparkling 6.7 YPC. Against opponents ranked in the AP, he rushed 36 times for 235 yards with a 6.5 average. He is plenty good and will be a mid-round pick. He is good at blitz pickup as well. Last season he rushed for over a 1000 yards with a 5.1 average.

Great to see a fan base that cares about a player and his family more than next year's box scores.

Cierre has aleady been over 1000yds, can catch, is fast, was a 5 star recruit..... I think all the scouts know he has been in and out of the Brian Kelly dog house but also know he is dam good and fast, think miami sun bowl, 1000 yds, Oklahoma. Not great at the stretch run or zone always but a big play guy when given the reps-just didnt get the reps this year like last year. In the open field he is bad ***. I say mid round pick and should go-no use risking any more injury at rb ala Jonas last year. Bet he and Theo will be playing for their careers in title game-tough to bring down.

I typically want to see kids stay in school and get their degree first just in case, but since CW already has his degree I think this is the best for him when he has a child to support. You just never know when the injury bug will hit.

I think CW is a much better back than Darius Walker was. I know a lot of people may disagree, but I thought DW fell short of expectations and made a big mistake leaving early.

To me Lattimore would be better suited to stay in school and prove to the NFL that he can recover and play at a high level. He will go late in the draft and may actually end up a FA because of his history. Most teams won't want to put much risk into him.

I agree with your assesment on Darius. I was quite puzzled when he left. I wonder what he is up to these days.

I'd love to see Wood come back and be featured in the offense. I think, given that chance, he would be a dynamic playmaker and could dramatically improve his draft stock the next year.

The only problem I have with him leaving...Is that where does he fall? I mean, he doesn't really have the production and isn't better than guys like Bell, Barner, Franklin, Ball,Taylor....And most of those guys won't be in the first round.

We're all Irish fans and just assuming that he'll jump on and get a job...what if he doesnt?

I see his dilema, but I also think that, as the feature back next year, he'd be drafted in the first 3 rounds for sure.

And yes, he risks injury...but he could blow a knee in his first pratice in the NFL as well.

Where he falls is a good question. One thing we do know, is that if you're good the NFL will know about you. I have nothing to base it upon, but right now I would guess rounds 3-6. A lot will depned on his combine results.

He could blow a knee the first day of practice in the NFL, but he would at least have the bonus money of his contract whatever that may be.

Never have the time to read all the previous posts, but I know he made some sort of public statement on senior day that he was going to be enjoying his last home game in an irish uniform. Where he falls, yeah, who knows, i can't imagine it's going to be anywhere early. With the fact that coming into this season he was suppose to be the starter, ended up getting suspended for the first two games, and then Theo ended up outplaying him all season, him than falling to #2 in the depth chart. Those can't be good signs for him to get drafted early. Though there are a lot of teams like the Pats and or Green Bay that would take him in the later rounds. The pats are known to find diamonds in the rough/draft and he could definitely be a player that fits into the Pats offense. We'll see I guess, he would definitely be welcomed back with open arms if he decides to stay, but if not, BEST OF LUCK CW, we couldn't have done it without you!
