We've got six weeks at 20 hours a pop! Now maybe 5 with finals lurking but still lots of time to improve as a team! I expect Kelly to have a solid plan and an even more physical team with even more depth by the time January 7th rolls around. Thoughts?

I was just discussing this last night. I compared this time to spring ball where you can get people healthy and develop your players without really game planning for a few weeks. It will be fun to see this team on January 7th. I believe that back in Kelly's first year, he said that this practice time is the most important.

This team has been progressing all season. I can't wait to see the machine that is ND come January 7th.

Priorities:

Getting people rested and healthy.
Working on red zone efficiency. (this is a big one)
Getting the young guys a lot of extra work.

Is Collinsworth coming back? Anybody else? Or are they saving him, Carlisle, etc.?
Great for the young guys, and as stated previously, time to heal and get stronger for the regulars.

I want to see golson and Chris brown get their timing down. It seems he's always got his man beat, but they can't connect. An 80 yard TD pass against Bama would be nice to start the game out.

Those were exactly my thoughts right after the SC game minus a few tears! We are loaded with talent and are gonna get that extra time to mold the clay! This is the year for all the SEC fanboys to eat their words. There is no better team to restore order in college football than the Domers!

Special teams needs to be addressed as well. I'm sorry, but we can't expect to have multiple successful 80+ yard drives against GeorBama.

Collinsworth and Carlisle are not going to be playing this year to my understanding. They will however play huge roles next year! Gotta save that eligibility!

I agree, but if it hasn't been addressed all year, why would it change now? Didn't BK say a while back that part of the issue is personnel?

With that said, you're right, there most likely won't be a lot of 80 yards drives coming from either team. Which is why Brindza needs to be kicking a crapload of FGs during the next several weeks. We can't afford a miss in this game.

You're absolutely right, but this is it. This is the ONLY game that matters now. If that means putting a couple 1st-stringers out there to setup a couple blocks, so be it. SOMETHING needs to be done, because this offense isn't ready to march down the field possession after possession just yet. And given that, there will be lots of punting occurring. Would be a lot better if we were punting from outside the shadow of our own endzone. A decent punt return could help facilitate that.

Thought so, and I'm good with that. They'll be icing on the cake returning next year. Couldn't remember if we had others out that might be returning.

I hope to see the up-tempo offense that we saw against USC working like a well-oiled machine.

Saban knows his defense is not built to stop the up-tempo spread and he can't schematically do much about it. His players wore down against Ta&m and they took advantage of it. If we can get our O moving quick, I expect to see Bama players faking injuries left and right.

As long as Kelly coaches this game like a man on fire we will have a legitimate shot. He absolutely cannot coach this game scared like Les did.

I would think with all this practice time it will get some extra attention. Last yr our punt return was right around the same as this season and during the bowl Floyd nearly took one all the way. I hope we have been lulling teams to a sense of security!

My favorite is; have you ever looked at the ND offense one game only? Question: What is it? Answer: whatever it needs to be?

I wonder if we will see a wide open beast for the first time this season?

Golson was getting better and better at the long ball all year, getting it like half a yard closer every time until they finally connected. I agree though, this would be a beautiful thing. Even just trying it will keep them honest for a while.

I think you answered your own question...yes, if we need it to be. I think though no matter how good our offense gets in the next month, the D will still be the strength of this team and BK will play to that strength.
