IMO, the real question is what has Manti done that is mind boggling? He has 7 int... nothing else.

This is a sick joke. 7 interceptions and nothing else ... you mean 7 interceptions and over 100 tackles.

How about over 20 tackles, 2 interceptions, a sack and a fumble recovery over a span of 2 games, where throughout that entire span his grandmother and girlfriend died and were buried.

How about teams bringing out two guards or an extra TE just to block Manti on every single play?

How about multiple saved touchdowns and a GL save against Stanford?

I'm not sure if you watched the games. The kid came out and dominated Florida in the 1st half in his first collegiate game ever. We had some bad clock management at the end of the first half on Florida's 20 yard line (not even a FG). He didn't do anything terribly wrong in the 2nd half. Our defense couldn't keep points off the board and Florida got really stingy.

He was 23/30 173 yards vs Florida, 60 yards on the ground in his first game....ever against a top 5 team. He had no turnovers.

LSU was definitely the low point. We missed 2 FG and a PAT. We lost the game by 5 points with 4 meaningful turnovers (#5 was a scramble with 00 on the clock). Johnny really just made 1 bad INT that game. Mike Evans got hit in the chest with a perfectly placed ball and bobbled it up into the air for a INT; we were moving the ball really well that drive too. Another INT was the wrong route run by our WR. Ben Malena fumbled the ball again when we were moving the ball. So, excuses excuses I know...but we had our shot.

IMO, the real question is what has Manti done that is mind boggling? He has 7 int... nothing else.

And leads the #1 defense in the country... has 9 turnovers himself not including the ones that don't show up on the stat sheet against Michigan (forced 2 INTs with QB pressure)... and the goal line stands....

You vote for Manziel if you like people running up the score in a system. You vote for T'eo if you want the better player on the better team. Bottom line is there is no such thing as "mind boggling" stats for an individual defense player especially if you're part of a good defense that gets teams off the field and doesn't let them run a huge volume of plays. You can't scheme to get a defensive player Heisman numbers the way you can run up the score in blowouts to inflate your QB.

If Manziel had his LSU and Florida games after the 'Bama game this wouldn't even be a debate... the pundits would have a completely different narrative.

How many games have we had without an offensive touchdown this season, 6? Half of our games... Crazy....

*yawn*. 58th in tackles per game. next argument? hell, our DE Damontre Moore has better defensive stats for tackles, tackles for loss, and sacks.... just not INTs. Sorry by the way...no one is going to win the Heisman for a goal line stand. Plus, I found it particularly hilarious when the announcers for USC/ND were giving #5 credit for goal line stands when he was yards behind the contact.

Manziel is an amazing football player and I would not be mad at all if he won it. The thing that bothers me though is that Manti is the best player on the undefeated number 1 team in the nation and if there ever was a defender to win it, it should be Te'o. He deserves it, he's inspiring, he's a leader with pretty huge stats, and he's been clutch! What else could you be looking for?

First, you love watching us play. Dont' pretend like you don't. You watch ND games, and you watch Te'o, and every good play he makes makes you sick. But you can't turn away.

Second, and I'm sure you are well aware, Silas Redd was heading right for the endzone on 1st and GL from the 4. Except he ran straight into Manti and got blown back.

Do you realize that ND's defense is not on the field anywhere near as much as other defenses. 7 interceptions mean the DRIVE IS OVER. No more tackles to be made.

VOLUME OF PLAYS.

When your defense allows the opposition to run about half the plays that YOUR defense allows the "stats" are going to be skewed. Do you understand how stupid you sound trying to quantify a defensive player's ability/impact/performance based on stats?

When teams choose not to throw at Revis, his stat line shows a bunch of zeros... even if he just shut down Calvin Johnson for a whole game by himself. That's the issue here. You can NEVER justify a defensive player over an offensive player based on stats because defensive impact isn't as quantifiable. Manti forced two INTs against Michigan, including one on the goal line, by QB pressure. That doesn't show up. With that even being said, he had 9 turnovers in 12 games including many that were literally game changing (Oklahoma, Michigan, USC).

If you want the best player on the best team it's Manti. If you want the kid with crazy stats who ran up the score on a bunch of bad defenses and went 1-2 against currently ranked opponents... you'll pick Manziel. 1-2 against ranked opponents. Losing record against ranked opponents. Bad stats, losing record against good teams he played. How many different ways can we say it?

If Manziel played LSU/Florida AFTER 'Bama the narrative is completely different.

Never fear I can help you out. He had statistically the best season ever for an SEC qb. Ever. He beat Cams record playing over two fewer games (1 because of championship game the other because Johnny has sat out at least 7 quarters of football this year).

Unlike Cam and Tebow or Klien or Bell Johnny is not that big and therefore is not a primary goal line weapon. In all our games but especially the LSU, Florida games when have scored TDs from inside the 5 through our RBs. Are you gonna punish Johnny for that? Everyone assumes that we are all air raid because of the stats but really we have stud RBs and we use them. Florida was the only game where we completely abandoned the run and were shut out of the second half. That was the very first game ever for our HC, OC, and QB against a top three defense.

We have already addressed the ints in the LSU game. Ask the LSU players about Johnny. Look up the video of Sam Montgomery. He straight up says Johnny alone altered the entire way the had to defend.

Overall when a player has a season that is statistically better than arguably two of the greatest college players (offensive) of all time, it would be silly not to include him into the conversation for Heisman, especially doing so in the SEC. Add in that Johnny is a human highlight reel and there ya go.

You can say FCS all you want to but really Johnny only played one FCS team. He was out by halftime by both. We never had a buy and had to play a schedule of 15 LaTech away, 6 LSU home, Auburn away, 15 MSU away, 1 Bama away. That's a pretty brutal stretch even if some of those teams were overrated. Please don't tell me that you think if we replaced South Carolina State with wake forest the result would have been different. If anything it would have allowed JF to stay in the game longer and get more stats.

In the past 8 games we have out scored our opponents 150+ to 0 on the 1st quarter. We are demolishing people. You say that's because of our schedule but we did it to Bama at Bama so maybe we just happen to be good.

When you have opposing defensive studs from rival schools campaigning for your heisman canidicy without being asked you know you have had a special year.

WF would crush South Carolina State into oblivion. Savannah State played SCS close for crying out loud. Pathetic. You should be embarrassed that your team schedules teams like SCS....

Sadly, down here in Texas it's Johnny Football all day every day. The local radio morons are just GOD AWFUL.

The Heisman is no longer about being a leader on the the best team or having integrity, or being a "special" player...It's about how many TD's you can score agains Sam Houston State.

Manti, overall (yeah, he may not have the guady stats...but he's the best player on the #1 team in the nation), deserves this award.

No see we cannot do that because we are afraid of tough competition, don't play anyone, aren't in a tough conference, don't play a conference championship 13th game, never faced anyone with a good QB, a running QB, quality WR, excellent RBs (but apparently a poor kicker whom you will find twisted up in the axles of the A&M bus he has been thrown under)...blah, blah, blah...

As my sister tends to say...nanny...nanny...boo-boo

This sums it up for Johnny Football:

"A&M led Florida 17-7 midway through the second quarter -- and didn't score another point. From that point on, Manziel threw for only 80 more yards and ran for only 20 more. Florida pretty much shut him down. Florida won, 20-17.

Then A&M led LSU 12-0 late in the first half. From that point on, Manziel threw three interceptions while rushing for only four yards and scoring no touchdowns. LSU made Johnny Football look more like Johnny Rotten. LSU won, 24-19.

Sorry, not Heisman good enough. "

And this is coming from Irish hater Skip Bayless!

In two of the biggest three games of the year for A&M...he didn't do jack when it mattered most.

But he scored a ton of TD's vs SMU, South Carolina State and Sam Houston...he's set RECORDS

We had to scramble after switching to a new conference. It won't happen again. Believe me no one at A&M likes it either. Johnny and all the others 1s were sitting by halftime each game. Why else would we agree to play LaTech away. The transfer just kind of screwed things up

So y'all don't like it...yet you have no qualms about touting Manziel's statistics in those games or how tough your schedule is. Makes sense.

Ag,

I'm not anti-Manziel, I believe he's a very good player and is deserving of the Heisman. I just believe Manti is more deserving. The problem with Manti's candidacy is that his value is so far above the stats he has. The bad news is many voters will only look at stats.

However, in an effort to make your points you continue to stretch the truth.

The reason that you lost against Florida was not because of your kicker who was perfect that day. The reason you lost is because you couldn't move the ball the ENTIRE second half. 6 possessions in the second half and 5 of those were three and out. You would think that the "best" player in football could move the ball more then 49 yards in the second half when the team is needing a score to win.

The reason you lost to LSU was not because of your kicker who did miss an extra point and two field goals from 52 yards (can't bang on the kicker for that one) and a 33 yarder. No, the reason that you lost is that those two possessions that resulted in missed field goals, started at midfield and at LSU's 16 yard line. Two possessions with amazing field position, having an opportunity to take the lead, and the offense does absolutely nothing. You would think that the "best" player in football could've generated more then 16 yards of offense on those possessions to take advantage of the field position and win the game.

You may not have a very good field goal kicker, but he didn't lose those games, Manziel had more to do with losing those two games then your kicker.
Told. Told so hard.

There is always one. Next years schedule for us looks even easier than this years (although who would have predicted Arkansas and auburn being so bad) look out for A&M next year

He didn't say anything radical. He stated facts. Cold, hard facts. Facts that you cannot argue with.

Oh wait, I forgot. That true freshman receiver who bailed out Manziel time after time against Alabama with amazing catches and RACs handed the ball over to LSU on purpose. Right...
