I'm wondering if he got the we'll-ignore-you-because-we-don't-want-you-anymore treatment.

I hope not, he seems like a good kid.

I'm fine with the staff making it clear that you will get recruited over if you are looking, and I'm fine with their trying to sniff out potential defectors, but I hope they aren't pushing kids out. Other lower ranked kids do not give me the impression we do that too much.

On the other hand, I do think that border-line kids who got in early to lay a foundation should be expected to be all-in. You make up for the lack of talent with committment.

I have a feeling Trey Johnson or Deon Hollins will be replacing him. Just a feeling.

johnson had a really good visit to urban last weekend and there were rumblings that he flipped to them.

i don't see hollins flipping, but i wouldn't bet on it.

I don't know why kids commit to schools knowing that they aren't sure where they really want to go. An early signing period would solve this growing problem. Basketball has one, why can't football?

First one to accept gets it. Ask the recruits who want to come but can't now because of space if they wished they had committed earlier. By committing earlier you end up keeping options open more than waiting.

Dude come on some twitter account said likely, duh!

Well, if they said it on twitter! Isn't that just like the internet? AND isn't everything on the internet true? Bonjour! I would like you to meet Serge, my date; he is a French model. Where did you meet him? On the internet!

Wow! All this said. Does anybody actually know anything?

I was thinking the same thing... I will be embarrassed as a Notre Dame fan if he does in fact stay. Some of you need a little more class when dealing with situations like this. I feel bad for the kid now. Hopefully he doesnt read this forum, I have seen posts deleted for less than what is being said on here.

I like Mattingly's versatility and potential. Would be a shame to see him go.

^^^^^^

100% agree.......I personally find some of the comments ignorant and rude. Nobody seemed upset when he committed, now the kid wants to make sure ND is the school for him and look around and you'd think he was a MAC Conference recruit by the way people are nitpicking.

Wherever you go Danny Football........I hope you KILL IT and become an All American!

There is no talking sense to some guys. The same fools who were badmouthing Anzalone and announcing confidently "He gone" apparently learned nothing from that debacle.

Ignorant people just become more ignorant on the internet.

Per II this morning, don't expect Danny to be a part of the '13 recruiting class for ND. It will likely become official within the next few days.

Best of luck Danny.

Sorry to hear it. I was really excited about Danny. It's looking like we'll have no trouble making good use of his spot though.

Best of luck to him. Great kid and great athlete. He'll do well wherever he ends up.

That sucks a big one. This kid is a lot better than his ratings. Seems like a good kid too. Best of luck to him and I hope we never have to play against him

Good luck Danny. I am still trying to figure out if this was on our end or his? If the answer is his, then the next question I have been asking myself is it position, attention, etc?

Probably a little of both. In any case, his versatility will be missed. Best of luck to you, Danny.

Would anyone rather have Mattingly than Randolph? I could see arguments either way but I guess we don't really need both, and I think Randolph is a better complement to Jaylon than Mattingly is.

Feel bad saying so because I do like Mattingly a lot; versatile big skill athlete that BK and the staff seem to do wonders with. Still think we might wish we had him as a backup tight end in a couple of years.

That's the issue, really. Both at OLB and TE, we have better pure prospects that Danny, of which I'm sure he's aware. Thus, his primary value was in his versatility, but I can't blame a kid that's getting attention from other major programs for not wanting to come to ND as an obvious back-up.
