Does anyone remember the Ty Isaac April Fools thread? Don't play with my emotions.

Call me crazy, but I would take Ty over anyone left on our board. It gives us a power back that we need with our red zone issues and it keeps us from playing this guy for the next four years.

Yes, he solves the power back issues, and I think Ty could be a great receiver as well. He is a complete matchup nightmare. Kelly would split him out wide as soon as he sees an opposing defense's run stopping personnel in the game.

Man, not sure whether I would rather have him or Treadwell for our last offensive recruit .. Both look like great playmakers

A. I highly doubt he'll come to ND. We weren't even his 2nd choice, much less his first. I know, the season happened and we were great, but still, this kid was enamored with USC and has given quotes that shows that he remains in love with them (of course, things change).

B. I'll just say that there are questions about his ability to play RB at this level, even from inside the USC camp. I'm not one to bash a recruit, but I will say that I'd like to see him in a different position than RB (very unpopular opinion, I know, and I get that people will disagree, and that's cool).

C. Give me Treadwell if they are fighting for the last roster spot (they're not).

I agree with this. I don't think he has the build to be a RB.

Would you compare him to Anthony Barr? Tall RB with more upside at LB, or lean athletic and should be a receiver or Safety? Either way if we could pull in Isaac it's like a moral victory for me. I would love for us to start winning the state of Illinois every year on the trail!

I agree...Would love to get Isaac.

Ya he seems to me more like an OLB. Stupid Weis blew it for Barr.

Wow, surprised to hear that. What flaws are people finding? It's been a while since I watched his tape, but I remember thinking that he looked outstanding on film and that he had uncommon elusiveness for a guy his size. He certainly looked like a good RB prospect for me, but maybe I'm missing something; there's only so much you can learn from a five-minute video, anyway.

If it did come to choosing between them, I can't disagree with this. After Eifert is gone, I'm not sure we'll have a star go-up-and-get-it type of receiver. There are certainly guys on the roster and in the pipeline who could get there, but I'd love to have another top prospect of that type.

I would guess that it is his height. It is hard to find 6'3" running backs as they take more of a pounding because it is hard to get their pads low enough to absorb the blows. There have been a couple of very good tall running backs (Eddie George, Steven Jackson and Eric Dickerson come to mind) but they are rather rare and can be prone to injury.

I like the idea of him bulking up and becoming an Anthony Barr type player or even a Shembo type of player.

This is pretty spot on. There are people who think he has tremendous upside at RB, and then there are people who think there is almost no chance he plays RB in college and is destined for LB. I don't really know how he fits in our equation right now, but would I take him over Jamel James 100 out of 100 times if we're being honest... and he probably has more upside than Mattingly (though debateable) at LB. So in the unlikely scenario he wants to come... I don't see how we turn him down.

I think there is a much better chance he ends up at Michigan though.

ND in LA's post was pretty dead on. Well thought.

But I don't think that Michigan is doin' much of a good sellin' job right now. Freshman fit with secure play time; toilet bowl season compared to expectations (some guy named Bogs in a Br Hoke thread said they would decline this year) with no BIG10 championship, a recruit senior QB with an epic fail season, destined to disappoint; and a bunch of recruits getting happy feet . . . not as likely to attract top shelf IMO, just behind USC.

(Has anyone else noticed as ND ascends, our rivals decline? Is this not great?)

Ty reminds me of James Wilder at F$U. Came out of HS wanting to be a RB when everyone said he needed to play LB because it was a more natural fit for him. James was listed at 6' 2" 215 coming out of HS. Ty is listed at 6'3" 202. Wilder seems to be faring pretty well at the RB position at F$U, I'd like to think Ty would do well as a RB. He likely has more natural talent as a RB than Wilder had, as Wilder was listed as a LB although I'm sure he played both ways in HS. I'm not sure where James was ranked nationally as a RB or if he was even rated at that position. Is it safe to assume that U$C is recruiting him as a RB? If so, that speaks volumes of his talent and ability at that position. I guess we'll see.

I'm repping you for this excellent comparison. I haven't watched a ton of FSU this season but I've liked what I've seen from Wilder, and I think Isaac is even better than Wilder. I have no reservations about Isaac as an RB. If some teams do, and he doesn't like that, that's their loss. I hope we aren't in that category.

Watching Barr play this year has been really difficult, hasn't it? He goes to UCLA to play RB, ends up at LB anyway, and turns out to be freaking awesome at it. Frustrating ... he may as well have just come to ND! Our OLBs have been great, but still I would love to have a weapon like Barr at our disposal.

Wiltfong got in touch with Isaac's mom. She knows ND and Michigan have been in touch with Ty. USC coming out for an in-home visit today, but she didn't say which coach. She hasn't discussed a decommitment or a change in the status of Ty's recruitment with Ty at all.

This kid is the number 3 rb and number 34 overall player (composit) in the class, has good size and speed, changes directions well, is elusive, has excellent hands runs excellent routes, is a versatile playmaker, scored 51 touchdowns as a junior, set rushing records and you want him to play linebacker?

I'll take an Eddie George type of back that can catch the football out of the backfield and is a threat to go the distance on any play. He would do wonders for this offense and be in the mix for immediate playing time.

His offensive skill set would be wasted on Defense. If not even as a running back like MC said he'd be quite a weapon as a reciever with those hands. Him in the open field would be something serious. I hope we can pull him from USC. We should have all the Chicago area Cathlolic school kids on lock. Reel him in Chuck.

I'm no expert, so I don't pretend to know more than others here. But my opinion after watching him actually agrees with several knowledgeable USC fans (and seriously, why would they say that about a near 5-star recruit that has committed to them) and some media members (Mike Frank thinks he's overrated, for example). And what people think is that he is too tall to play RB. Few guys his size can do it...it's just really tough. Not his fault, but it's just tough to get his pad level down that low. Watch whole game film (and not just highlights), and you'll see what I mean. He's spectacular, but there are times his pad level needs to be lower, cause he'll expose himself to some major hits on the college level that h.s. kids in his area can't do.

Now, this doesn't mean he CAN'T be a great RB on the next level; it just means it'll be tough.

There's TONS of tall RBs that don't make it though, because they expose themselves to too much contact. Guys like Dickerson and Peterson are the exception much more than the rule (maybe your last name needs to end in 'son' in order to be a successful tall RB???). I think he'd be a STUD linebacker, but hey, college coaches want him at RB, and they know a bit more than me, sooooooo...

And yes, USC is recruiting him at RB.

RB, LB, WR, TE... I don't care. Would love to have this kid. If he can't be an every down back..... Use him at LB or WR between the 20s, RB near the endzone.

That's the thing about kids like Ty, they go into college and many of them (like Barr) fall for the "sure, you'll play rb here" and then find out that circumstances don't make them the next Adrian Peterson. Now Barr, is a great kid with a great future, but his days at RB are over. Despite him not coming here, I still consider him one if our own because of the contributions of not only his uncle Reggie, but of his father. But his biggest contribution to college football history will be taking out Barkley before he faced a Notre Dame team destined for a championship without him.

I hope Ty realizes that he will get a chance to play RB at Notre Dame, but if it didn't happen, he still can be a great college football player for a great team. Barr could have had this glory, and I hope Ty realizes this opportunity.

Apparently Ty will no longer be able to EE at USC, citing Joliet's policies. Wonder how this might affect his recruitment and USC's class logistics.

Is this news to him? How do you get to this point in time and learn of this policy from the school. To quote an old movie "what we have here is a failure to communicate". Love it. Feel free to further investigate ND young lad.

Doesn't a failure to have him EE really screw up the numbers for Lame? Thought they were counting on XX number of EEs so that they would count against this year's number?
