'09 IN ATH Tyler Eifert (ND Verbal 7/8/08)

i'd love to say yes, but with his stock where it is (i'm assuming still 1st round grade or atleast #1 TE on the board) it would be hard for him to come back knowing his stock can only go down.

he proves week in and week out though why he's been the best for the last two years...i'm all about playing all for years, but in this case with him most likely having his degree as well he's more than ready for the next level.

he'd look good in chicago

Same as always? A wide receiver. I just think he has relatively good speed, but there is really no one who can compete with this guy's combination of size and catching ability.

I actually think it was Mcshay's maybe? I can't remember for sure, sorry.

what makes tyler even more appealing (similar to the dude from stanford) is their ability to block on the line of scrimmage and on the perimeter. for that reason coupled with his eliteness catching the ball and physical tools he's perfect as a TE. with the way the league uses TE's today anyway they're an extra receiver anyways

Hah. I agree man. Now I would be all for this if we went after an elite TE who could challenge and or make our other great TE's better but with Yeatman coming back to go along with incumbent starter (Ragone who is also a soph) and Rudolph AND Fauria, this position is waaaaaaaay 2 stacked to be offering a run of the mill TE with an offer from Purwho.

Love going back and looking at some of the earliest posts from when he was in high school before he was offered (not picking on Clausen2Kamara specifically - there are dozens like this).

Really great development for Eifert. Tight End U.

eifert was robbed of the mackey award last year, he definitely deserves it this year hes a complete tight end now.

I played in high school with him at Dwenger, and yes he definitely played corner for us sometimes, but it was mostly at free safety. He did come down and play DE for us sometimes. This was a pretty scary sight considering Tony Springmann was the other DE for us. We also had 6'3" 330lbs MLB my sophomore year who moved down to DT once he got to IU so our coach definitely wasn't afraid of using our size advantage at traditionally smaller positions.

Anybody else feel like the light switched on with the connection between Golson and Eifert last week? I know it was BC, so anybody could have shined, but I thought Golson targeted him more. He even checked to him several times when he wasn't the first look. If the last few games of the season this continues, then we might see this offense make some strides.

Like you said, it was BC, but then again I would think with the mediocre defenses that Pitt and BC have, they would have focused all their efforts to stop Eifert with double or triple teams and that didn't seem to happen the past two weeks, Eifert has caught more passes in the last two games than the first 8 combined. Now there is also a flipside to that, maybe teams are slowly getting away from defensively focusing on Eifert because he isn't Golsons favorite target, like he was for Tommy. I mean it was obvious the first 7 games of the season that Golson just never looked toward Eifert, now that could have been because he really wasn't open, because BK told him not to even bother looking at Eifert because he will be so closely covered by the opposing defenses and was just playing it safe with his young QB., who knows? The only thing that does matter is he is finally getting Eifert the ball, and will only make Senior Kiffin to have more headaches on planning to stop him, Riddick out of the backfield, CB Deep, as well as some young studs that haven’t' seen the field much because of how well DD had been playing. With him out for that game, I sure hope we see a little of Neal. Uh oh, I'm starting to roll off threat topic, I'll stop here.

i thought EG was zeroing in plenty early on versus Navy and then he threw that INT and it seemed like it took half the season to get that rhythm back. Glad the chemistry is working so well now though, Eifert is gonna kill USC this weekend and their short linebackers.
