Why Is K-State's Surprise Better Than ND's?

I just looked at the pre-season AP rankings and K-State was only ranked 22 and ND was not ranked but I don't understand why K-State who no one expected to contend for a National Championship are in control of their own destiny wheras the Irish need to win out and get help. I'll concede Oregon being ranked higher since they were in the mix for a National Championship at the start of the season but not K-State! What if ND had a heisman trophy QB then would ND be ranked higher?

K-State got a huge boost when they curb-stomped West Virginia when people thought Geno Smith was a shoe-in for the Heisman. Also, being the first team to beat Oklahoma this year was big for them. My sense is that K-State got the high ground early and we haven't done anything to kick them off. After the Oklahoma game, people were ready to give us the benefit of the doubt, but we lost most of that good will when we came a bad snap away from losing to Pitt.

I believe they finished last season with a pretty good rank as well which would've set them up for their preseason position this year.

This. KSU also somehow doesn't get penalized for barely squeaking by an Iowa State team we now know sucks because they were ranked at the time. ND somehow gets penalized for barely beating comparable BYU without our starting QB........... this is getting unreal.

Reading the recent Deadspin article on how ESPN literally rigs their "journalism" for their own business interests I'm really starting to smell a conspiracy. They just had some clown from Florida on Final Verdict who said Notre Dame "barely beat" Boston College... you know, the 21-6 win where ND held BC without a TD for the first time all year... and where KSU beat TCU by LESS POINTS is just fine.

Same clown said ND would have no chance against either Oregon or KSU.

I don't know that ND wouldn 't beat oregon... I think they could beat any team in the top twenty... and of course most could beat them... USC included.

Can you post a link to the article?

Which clown by the way, its ESPN; there are several.

You could also say they 'barely' beat North Texas since ESPN is using the term so loosely.

That win against 'formidable' WVU is as powerful a win as the ND win against Michigan this year. WVU is 5-4 who is ranked 121st in points against. Actually, I take that back as I write this. Just looked at Michigan is better then WVU with losses to 'Bama, ND, and Nebraska...oh and ranked 17th in points against.

Should I also point out that ND did better against Miami (FL) then KSU did? Also against OU?

It is frustrating at the moment seeing us 3rd but at the same time I feel it may benefit us. To me it puts less pressure on our guys to hold on to a 1st or 2nd place spot this late in the season. It may be just what we need to finish out undefeated and move up while one of Oregon or K state falls. Then again it may not but we will find out very soon and that's the best I can come up with.
