We have the best front seven in the nation. Part of it is having day contribute like a seasoned vet-ter-en in his third game. Springman doesn't suck either. Kidding. Springman is scary in the middle!

I almost puked when I thought he tore his ACL for a bit there.

take it easy...you obviously weren't watching CBS from 3:30-7

We have the best front seven in the nation.

Shembo did it all tonight. I was responding to Irishman77's post. Four sacks off the best rated offensive line in the first two weeks, doesn't suck.

Our front 7 is good, but lets not rate them as the best in the country. Don't be too much of a homer. I think if you travel south a while there may be better. I couldn't argue though that this is the best 7 we have had in a LONG time.

i think are front 7 is better than good. I would even label them as elite. Possibly top 5 in the nation. Always assume Bama is #1, Florida is pretty good too. But I would put Notre Dame right up there with them.

They've had a few significant injuries in their front 7.

I agree, i think we can start to make a valid claim that this front 7 is ELITE. Heck, the secondary stepped up and played equally to the front 7. This defense is starting to become ELITE.

Yea i meant LSU with Montgomery and Mingo. Georgia is real good too. But Flordia isn't bad either, even without Powell they still got Jelani jenkins and Shariff Floyd. Outside the SEC, OSU and USC are pretty good.

MSU has been hyped as one of the best, with us handling them the way we did that really makes a statement. Purdue isn't too shabby either at least on the from 4 for defense. All in all, I have more confidence in Notre Dame's front 7 then any other ND position group in years.

It seems like he has hit the proverbial freshman wall. Agree or disagree?

I just don't think the second rotation has been playing as much lately. Seems to me that the 1st group played more of the snaps against Stanford and BYU than they had earlier in the season. His best game (Michigan St.) came when Kap was hurting. When he came back, his minutes were always going to decline.

He will be needed this week for sure. Gotta be fresh for the 4th qtr!

We need all those guys to get a solid pass rush this week. I firmly believe that a consistent pass rush will be the key to the game for us.

Absolute key brother! Pressure equals bad decisions and bad decisions by Oklahoma equals opportunity for us!

If he can't get there, we may end up stuck with another Sheldon Day. Wait...

Honestly, I think Sheldon Day isn't bad at NT......just needs time play the position, just like Big Lou did.

I don't see much similarity between them. Nix was about 50 lbs. heavier coming out of high school, was a unanimous top-10 DT/ top-100 player nationally, and has since been molded into an immovable object at NT.

Day's still not close to 300 lbs, and his specialties are pass-rushing, penetration and disruption. He honestly seems better suited to a 4-3.

I'd love to see him gain the weight and strength necessary to fill Nix's shoes, but it seems unlikely with his physical profile and talents right now.

He kind of looks like a bowling ball. Nix, on the other hand, looks like a wrecking ball. Indeed just two different body types.

I agree. But whenever someone expresses concern over the eventual departure of Nix, someone invariably responds with, "Don't forget about Day! He's pretty good."

They're both among the shorter DL on our team, but the similarities stop there.

I wonder if the obvious depth on the front line and possible concern for depth at the LB position (specifically inside) cause the staff to play more 4/3 alignments than 3/4 alignments this year?

Interesting questions, don't they show four man fronts about forty per cent of the time anyway?

(Told you all this kid would be a warrior this year.)

The dline is not built to play the 4-3 as often. Same things goes for the linebackers. They can shift but that is not what they would be best at.
