Whistles from the stands

One time I heard Hammond mention it it was an actual refs whistle. They stopped play because of a time out. There may have been other times but that was the only one I noticed. I did miss most of the third quarter. If it is going on it needs to stop. If it happened close enough to me that I knew who it was, I would report them in a heartbeat.

I'd love for the culprit to be ratted out and somehow thrown in jail and treated like a ragdoll for a night. Is that too harsh?

My guess is the general area of 15/16 in every game. The ones yesterday no idea. I was on the field twice this year and the opposite corner for another but same endzone. All three those times the whistle came from that 15/16 corner. Yesterday I have no idea.

I have been to every game except Stanford and I sit in section 18(the south end zone). I haven't heard it at all. I am sure the ushers in this section in this area would be all over a whistle, because they won't even let us do push ups after Notre Dame scores.

I heard it too, seconds ago and I heard it on the opposite end of the field on the goalline in the first half.

I heard the second one at the game also, coming from the same location you mentioned. How anyone could hear a whistle the second to last play of the game is beyond me though.

The second to last play of BYU's drive was funny. Whistles were blown before the pass was completed, and the reffs gave a funny explanation.

Just talked to a friend who went to the BYU game. He also went to the Michigan game. He says he heard whistles in both games. Some louder than others. He also said the music is played way too loud and way too long. Sounds to me like there may be more than one whistle. I talked it over with him and we are both of the opinion that it shows poor sportsmanship. Something Notre Dame has not been known for until recently.

That sounds kinky... i'm gonna see if the wifey can do that...

This is where I'm supposed to tell you that she can do that or something of that persuasion.

But I'll leave that be...ND being 7-0 and all.

Can we be penalized? Didnt we get penalized or something for the crowd being too loud against Michigan in 1994?

Too young to know about 94 but the idea that a crowd can be flagged for being too loud is nonsense. However, I do believe the team can be flagged for whistles in the stands.

I have season tickets, the Stanford game was horrible, and yesterday's game I didn't hear a single whistle from the stands around me.

The Phantom Whistle

This is hilarious guys. I obviously agree that it should be stopped if someone is intentionally doing it, but ... this is just great reading.

Oh, it happened. There's a youtube video of it... the refs were waiting for the ND crowd to quiet down so Michigan could run an offensive play. The crowd never got quieter, and Michigan refused to try and run a play, so the refs threw a flag for the noise.

The penalty called in the Michigan game was for "Delay of Game" since the Michigan players claimed/mimed/feigned that they weren't able to run a play "due to the noise."

The "Too Loud Crowd" nonsense was silenced soon after.

Thanks DShans. Every major powerhouse would be flagged if that were the case.

Well we don't have to worry about being too loud these days...

I got told to sit down numerous times by the people behind me. I also had to try to fire up my section and get them to stand at the end of the game....as if being up by only 3 with 2 minutes to go isn't enough reason to get behind your team....no, my section (for the most part) sat the entire game except on third downs. it was very annoying.

I must say the music helps. I typically attend one game per year and last year it was before they added the music. So this was my first experience with that. During quiet moments, the music was a perfect touch. It kept me fired up, that's for sure.
