Silver Bullet Recruiting

Colt Pettit is an offensive lineman in the class of 2014 that has caught the eye of the Ohio State coaching staff. Last season Pettit led Patrick Henry High School to the Regional Finals of the State Tournament. Right now Pettit stands at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds. Pettit has a great frame to be able to add more weight and still potential to get taller. He is hoping to improve upon that.

"I hope to get my size up even more", said the Ohio lineman. "I am hoping to add more weight, keep adding to my size, while still maintaining my quickness. I want to be quick and be better with my feet."

Pettit mentioned that he already holds 5 offers, consisting of Bowling Green, Akron, Toledo, Kent State, and a Big Ten school in Indiana. He is also hearing from other schools as well.

"I have an offer from Indiana and I loved it there. The campus was really cool to see. I had a good feeling about the place. All their coaches are great guys and Coach Wilson is really building up that program. I went to an Ohio State practice last saturday and really enjoyed myself. I grew up an Ohio State fan so it was a neat experience. I got to talk to Coach Meyer and he really didn't know all that much about me. He was trying to get to know me and told me to keep working hard. I visited Kentucky this past season and Miami of Ohio as a freshman."

Pettit actually went to a football camp last year. He also has plans to get out on the camp circuit this summer and prove his worth as a football player.

"Last year I went to Central Michigan's camp because my brother actually plays up there. This summer I am planning on going to camp at Ohio State, West Virginia, and Kentucky."

Pettit is an offensive lineman from Ohio with a very high ceiling considering the frame he is able to hold. His junior season and performance at camps are something to pay attention to. If he performs well Pettit has the opportunity to even collect more enticing offers in the future. Keep checking back as we track the progression and process of Colt Pettit's recruitment.

plays for a small school, but with very good football tradition. winning program where they are hard nosed kids and taught to do things the right way. very athletic for his size and may end up playing on the defensive side of the ball. it'll be interesting to see how much weight he puts on between his junior and senior year. there are rumblings from the area that stanford is also very interested in him.

Sounds like if OSU comes calling it might be over. Maybe/hopefully we can make a big impression.

Colt paving the way for Gunner, has a nice ring to it. He should be hitting the size he needs this time next year. Definetly worth keeping an eye on.

Quick update from ISD...

Staff told him they like him at lb/de while he just assumed he'd be ol. No offer but staff wants him to return for a camp, could be back next week.

Patrick Henry is a very small school, they are in Division 5 in Ohio (our of 6). That is 119-169 boys in three grades of the school.

You can go 15-20 miles in any direction and see nothing but farm fields. Nothing but fields. But hey, that's the midwest for you.

Patrick Henry is one of the best D-V programs in the state though. I cant' remember the last time they went less than 8-2, normally they go 10-0 or 9-1 too. A great, great program for the smaller schools in Ohio.

thought i should pass this along.

gotta chance to see colt live in august. watched him pretty closely.

Although he was playing a small school from Ohio with not much size one thing is certain is this guy is big. He's a solid 6'3" and prolly about 250, but it's pretty much all muscle. He is very explosive at the point of attack and has a tremendous motor as well. He doesn't seem to be done growing either, but at the very least he could carry another 40-50 pounds very easily. His high school plays a version of the run and shoot with a few spread concepts and i think he could transition very easily to a spread offense. Very athletic and fundamentally sound puller and does it with speed and arrives angry. I know we are recruiting him on the defensive side of the ball, but imo his highest ceiling is as a college guard or center.

with that said i don't know if he'll see an offer from us, but the buzz around here is that he is very interested in Stanford and they've been in contact. It is only his junior year too so a lot to stay tuned here for.

this kid's ceiling is on the OL without a doubt...he will not play for us imo if we're only looking at him on defense.

I have never understood how someone could play football, be getting scholarship offers to play football, and not watch college football or NFL.

I am confused about what that has to do with watching football on tv? If you were a major soccer player wouldn't you watch some soccer? Baseball? Hockey? etc...

ive been on plenty of teams with guys who had little or no knowledge of NFL or NCAA happenings. Didnt stop them being great players though, for some football is life but for others just something they do on weekends i guess!

It helps... For example, I used to watched hockey and try to emulate cool moves or particular plays on the outside rink the next day.

Scout.com: Colt Pettit Talks Recruiting and More

know we have limited scout access here, but anyway.

team starts playoffs tomorrow night. i don't think he plays a winter sport so his recruitment will take off more this winter imo. with our limited spots available and the way we're taking off i don't see us being a player for this guy, especially if we continue to recruit him on the defensive side of the ball.
i can stop giving updates if that's the case.

still think he's best served on the interior offensive line at the next level.
