Lol I actually wanted ND to offer this kid coming out of HS. I see why we didn't.

In June, Ohio State was recognized because its multiyear Academic Progress Rate scores were in the top 10 percent of Division I football teams. OSU also received the same honor in 2011.

:allhail:
Of all the observations people have made about the statement, this is the MOSTscary. Do you realize 90% of Div 1 programs ARE WORSE.

It's also the program that graduated one Craig Krenzel, who would have given most ND students a run for their money, in terms of academic excellence. Just as Krenzel is not the typical Buckeye football player, I don't think this kid is typical of Buckeye football players either.

He's obviously got the IQ of a bucket of turnips. Let's not mince words here. If you're dumb enough to go out in a public forum and profess something so insane, you deserve all the jeers and hell which follow said comment.

-My take...........Flies are drawn to sh!t and this insect has found the perfect home. PosU is right up this bottom-feeder's alley... Well done, Son.

To be fair, if he's complaining about it, he's being made to go to class.

On the other hand, that's totally hilarious.

Feel sorry for this kid that he isn't taking advantage of a good educational while he's at a great university...on the other hand, his tweet left some amusing replies in this thread :eek:grin:

agree. The stupid thing is that he said it publicly. I would not doubt a number of BCS players feel this way.

What's so stupid about saying the truth publicly? I applaud the kid for his lack of political correctness that is so sickeningly prevalent.

Od course you are right. I applied for and was offered a residency and facility appointment at Ohio State many years ago so I am fully aware that it is a great school and does the state of Ohio proud.
However, it is fun to pile on, especially when Saint Urban in Ohio gets caught trying to out-do Saint Nick in Alabama.

And to think how many deserving students have to pay or can't afford to get that same education. And this dope gets a free ride?

"Coach said I have to go to class and gets my edumacation or I can't play ball."
(Actual quote I heard from a kid who was getting a scholarship to go to my HS. He went on to Rutgers, not sure if he saw the field much.)

I still don't have a big problem with what this kid "tweeted." I actually think it was a clever way to word it, and its sadly the truth that the NCAA is making millions off of this minor league sports enterprise while kids like this try to make the NFL. Urban Meyer, Jack Swarbrick and Coach Kelly are making millions riding these unsung scout teamers. Why should this kid have to go to college to play minor league football?

An education is a gift that not everybody wants or needs. This kid clearly doesn't want it and is not getting anything out of his basketweaving classes. He should be allowed to take technical classes that are involved in something he might be interested in. There is no use in a kid like this getting a liberal arts education.

And for all of you with the sob stories about the struggles so many go through to pay for college save it. That's your life, not his. You value formal education. Everybody is different. This kid has no use for college. He shouldn't have to take college classes to play minor league football. He has a solid point.

Serious question: Please tell me what about ND makes you a fan? Because it seems to me that you don't have the first clue what ND is all about, and what makes most people follow the team.

Serious answer: I admire the fact that ND attracts true student athletes for the most part. I also think that ND is different than most other NCAA football teams and that's why I like them.

I also have a soft spot in my heart for the kid that wants to play NFL football, works his tail off and sells millions of dollars worth of jerseys for his college, and then rips his knee apart playing minor league football and has nothing to show for his hard work. Sure, he could fall back on his education, but most NCAA football factories will kick him to the curb. Not to mention the fact the kid has no genuine interest in college academic life and his talents and place in the world lie outward.

Should plumbers have to take calculus and english lit to perfect their true calling? Should assembly line workers be forced to take 3 years of foreign language at university? No, absolutely not. If they like the stuff, it's their right to take the classes and more power to them. Maybe it will help them expand their business reach. Why should minor league football players be forced to go to college? The money has gotten crazy in college football. Everyone is getting rich except for the players that get concussed and never see a dime. It's time to set up some sort of insurance system that will protect these minor league football players. Not everyone values a college education so there needs to be some other reward for these players.

So you blame the "big bad universities"?

It's STUDENT-athlete for a reason.

If they want a fast track to the NFL, then they can ****ing move to Canada or play some Arena ball...

It's COLLEGE football, dumbasses like this, that tweet this stupid sh!t don't deserve to be applauded, they need a smack to the back of their head and a reminder that an NFL career is so extremely unlikely that they'll need something to fall back on.

then he shouldnt be at a college, simple; he doesnt want to go to class, thats fine. have him hire a draft consultant, get him ready for the draft and roll the dice.

On the other hand, I do like to hear about stories like this, because it brings tOSU down to Urban Liar's level.

Get used to tOSU fans, you will be hearing more and more of these types of stories with Urbs around.

Very mature post by NDinFL. I assume that you graduated ND which would explain the eloquence in which you frame your argument.

Personally I agree with Teomonsternd and I did not attend ND. I happen to have attended and graduated from lowly North Carolina State, but have been an ND football fan for basically my whole life. Why am I a fan? I grew up in a Catholic household and my father was a fan. I was fortunate to grow up in the Ara era when losing any game was a major disappointment. During this time I never heard any talk about graduation rates. This if more recent phenomena which seems more to used as an excuse for ND's poor on the field performance. And to be quite frank, it is fans like me that make ND relevant and not some holier then thou asses.

This thread is getting ridiculous. How anyone can defend this student-athletes tweet is beyond me.

Football players are not forced to go to college. They are merely required to wait 3 years after High School, before being eligible for the draft. I'm pretty sure that players can do open tryouts, at any age. I have two brothers who each have two kids in college right now; try telling them that the free tuition, room & board, books, and fees equate to players "never seeing a dime". Most of these players also get stipends to live off campus. Go cry this river somewhere else.

Anyone can learn a trade. Plumbers still need to learn their job, so do assembly line workers. That is still an education. You are not just going to pick up a wrench and say you are a mechanic.

The difference between those examples and the NFL is that anyone can be a plumber if they want to be, it takes hard work but it is possible. Only 1% of people become pro athletes. There are millions of shattered dreams for every one fulfilled. I can understand the argument for paying players in college but to say they shouldn't go to class is nonsense. These kids need to realize the opportunity they are given.
