BYU is awful. I've watched two of their games, assumed they would be tough, and they aren't. Yes they won 10 games last year, but didn't beat anyone if you look at their schedule.
I don't think Stanford will be as tough as people think. That is, it won't be as tough as USC or Oklahoma for ND.
Seems like the world is looking at their win vs USC, which was pretty impressive. But, a lot of that win was surprise -- USC just wasn't schematically prepared for their rush, and thus gave up a lot of sacks and turnovers. Now that we have the benefit of seeing that game we won't make the same mistake.

Remember how "awful" Purdue was supposed to be this year???
And they've lost to Utah by 3 and Boise by 1...... They're not "awful".
Purdue looks like they're are going to be competing for a B1G title this year. We didn't know who they were cause ND was their second game of the season. I'm not a fan of trasative property, but when I look at what we did to a team that beat boise in a game that really could have been a blowout had the QB not thrown so many picks, I laugh when I think about playing a team that lost to Boise. Also Utah got blow about by about 30 points against the arizona st. Sun devils. Both are bad losses for a team expecting to go places this year. We won't have any trouble with them.
When a team has beaten you two straight and 3 out of the last 4, you should be prepared. Shame on USC if they underestimated the Cardinal. I think Stanford is still pretty darn good. I admit, before the season I had figured they would not be as good. They are steadily proving people wrong, just like we are.
LOL.....Talk about a collapse for the ages
No, Stanford will definitely be the #3 toughest game left. And we should no-doubt be prepared. We just have the benefit of hindsight that USC didn't have, and we'll be at home.
USC threw 2 picks, lost a fumble, and went 1-13 on third downs due to stunts and a pass rush that they just didn't anticipate. And even then Lee had 8 catches for 100 yards. Now that we know that this is something to guard against it puts us in a much better position.
(Also would help to not give up 200+ total yards to Stephon Taylor...But again a lot of those come from the excess possessions from turnovers and punts).
I'm pretty sure 100% of IE would become alcoholics, Brian Kelly would be framed for murder, and NDNation would be pretty content. All terrible.
One thing to point out is that Oklahoma really struggled in their first 2 D1A games. That UTEP game was close until the end and they lost to Kansas State. Oklahoma could very well just be overrated as always. I think the USC game is tougher at this point.
Famous last words.....
And this "we didn't know who they were" is crap They pimped us around all day on the line. We are well aware of who Purdue is. We play them every year.
What I'm saying is that so many on here were saying what a push over Purdue was going to be....We can come up with excuses all day, but because of our offense, I don't think we're gonna have many "push overs"
Similar to all the people who were scared out their wits about MSU... ya, that game was close. BYU is overrated by some on this board.
8-4. Dont see them beating Stanford/Miami/southern cal/with a stub your toe loss in there somewhere else. These guys have already had a spectacular season. I'm staying negative as it has worked so far. My question is how will the bye week help/hinder. Will they start feeling like there's something to lose instead of playing with house $$$ and go for it. If they beat Miami I may adjust my thinking. Miami is very good and dont let the K State game fool you. They are super fast.Sitting at a LOVELY 4-0 after the first third of the season. Bye week allows the guys to rest up and re-focus on the upcoming, middle of the season schedule which looks like it won't get any easier. This schedule is brutal, and IMO, the bye week couldn't have come at a better time, coming off of two emotional wins.
I expect to beat Miami.
After that it's 3 very challenging weeks in a row. Starting with #8 Stanford, BYU, and #16 Oklahoma. 2 of the 3 are home, and I'd be happy to win 2 of those 3 games.
So IMO, we're sitting 7-1, 4 weeks from now.
Then it's the last third of the schedule, and if there was a soft-spot in the schedule, it'd be the end.
Should be favored heavily against Pitt, BC, and Wake. Sprinkle in the USC game, and I'd be happy if we went 3-1 through that stretch.
Optimistic = 10-2.
Realistic = 9-3. Still think that unless we get rolling offensively, we lose at least one game we should be favored in. And 9-3 is pretty damn good.
I'd rather be wrong that way, than underestimating...

Very true. I think the Kstate/OU game was more of an indication as to how good Kstate is, not how overrated OU is. I love Kline, dude plays tough.
