: Joe, what's your opinion of Evertt Golson, ND's new qb? Do you think he's got the skills to take ND to a BCS game? Thanks.

Joe Montana

: Kelly can't figure out what he wants. Every one of his QBs that he has, he claims is his next star, but he doesn't last long with him. He's probably the least talented thrower that they have, so maybe they're looking to run the ball with him.

Hell.... I'm not even sure he's a Notre Dame fan.

Just think he is sour on the school for how his son could not make it. He'll get over it in time. Doesn't change the fact that he's still the best to ever play the game at QB. And I'm still glad he played for the Irish.

He's been the condescending, arrogant, jerk of a person others have alluded to on this thread long before his son went to ND so I don't think he's going to get over it. Another example of a famous athlete who we'd all like to think is as good of a person as he was in playing his sport, but alas is definitely not.

He's earned the right to give his opinion...doesn't mean it isn't dumb though.

Joe may be the greatest quarterback to ever play the game, but the guy is a douche. Every time he opens his mouth I lose a little more respect for him. He's still a legend, but come on Joe, shut up.

Plus he wears Shape-ups. I'd beat up even Mother Teresa if I saw her in Shape-ups.

Uhm, I don't know how to tell you this, but Mother Teresa is dead.

I have nerve/ joint damage in my right foot (sports related)... I have to wear shape ups as they allow me to walk without extreme crippling pain... idk why really and neither do my doctors but yeah, I know cool story bro… right??? Seriously, it is the only shoe I can wear anymore. I have close to ten pairs.

Anyway, Montana is fine, as of right now what he said has as much weight, or more, as anyone here until proven otherwise… which very well may happen.

If Kelly sticks with Golson and EG wins games… then pile on… as of now it seems there is as much sour grapes headed toward Joe as from him.

I don't get the outrage. Nothing he said is outrageously false, and it might all be true. I mean, is there any doubt that Joe Montana is more qualified to judge Golson's passing ability than any one of us here?

Joe Montana has had beef with ND since his son Nate couldn't cut it. Not the kind of Karma we need Joseph. Joe Montana ain't walking through that door folks. Everett Golson is.

Yes, I have doubt. We've all watched Golson throw, both in practice and in two spring games. Joe, though the great QB he was, has probably NOT seen Golson throw. Therefore, his opinion on Golson's throwing ability is much more worthless than all of ours.

Some of us have probably watched more ND football than he has the last year and a half. And Everyone here can agree on one thing. Golson is a better thrower without a doubt than Rees, not sure about Gunner.

Oh for Pete's sake. Move it to the Leprechaun Lounge and ignore the thread. Giving grief to a 50-something year old man that can defend himself, and surely gives 2 $hit$ about what us armchair QB's have to say.

People whining about how they don't like this thread is the only reason it should be closed. Lighten up.

I'd hope that Joe would be Irish enough to look past his son's lack of skills and history here at ND. He's not, and that's OK. He's got a right to his opinion. What he said is not so bad, just wish the tone was a little better and he'd show more optimism. His past history gets more knobish by the year. Oh well, won't cost me any sleep. I hope EG/BK succeed, and they ask him again in a year or two. Go Irish.

Speak for yourself. I have not seen Golson throw a single pass in a college football game that counts. And neither have you. So he has a big arm? Jeff George and Ryan Leaf had big arms, too. That didn't mean that they were able to make the jump to the next level. If you want to try to play word games, that's fine. But Montana said Golson was the worst passer , not thrower of the three. Given that Golson has only thrown in practice, or in the Blue-Gold game........ I would venture to say that Montana has seen more of Golson than any of us have.

thrower/passer,,,, meh. Does BK want a more mobile QB, absolutely. It fits his O..... Regardless, I just can't imagine that this year is worse from a TO perspective. Will we improve the W/L record, IDK, but I'm optimistic.
We'll all know by this time next week!!! Yahoo.

I like how you tried to correct him when you were just dead wrong. Its in the first post of the thread and in the chat transcript, he said thrower. But then again its easier to just spout off your opinion then look up facts.

Montanas probably just parroting something he's heard somewhere else. Its unfortunate that he has ended up the father that blames the coach for his son being bad.

You are correct, he did say thrower. I stand corrected. But listen to you telling us all what is going on in Joe Montana's head? You must know him pretty well, I'm thinking. But the semantics are not really the point; you are all just assuming that Montana is mad at Kelly for not starting his kid. What did Montana say that was inaccurate?

We aren't talking about as far as the NFL was concerned though...Ryan Leaf threw for a then Pac-10 record 33 TD's back in college and was a heisman finalist...So while he didn't amount to sh*t in the NFL, he was a damn good QB for college...

It's about making the jump to the next level, whether that jump is NCAA D-I to the NFL, or High School to NCAA D-I. Golson has not thrown a single pass in a college game that counts. Having a strong arm is no guarantee that he will successfully make the jump. How about we let him play a little, before we coronate him as the next best thing?

There is a big difference between coronating Golson and saying that he's probably better than Tommy. I don't see why you're getting so worked up. Montana's disdain for ND and Kelly right now has been well documented by ND fans for the last 3 years.

Oh, I don't believe I or anybody else here who disagree with Joe are saying that Golson is the next best thing...simply attacking the statement Joe made by saying he's the "least talented thrower"...I believe I can speak for everyone in this thread when I say that huge talent doesn't correlate to great performance...but it's ridiculous to say that Everett isn't as talented/if not more than Tommy or Andrew...Hell, for all we know, he may be as talented Gunner...the jury is still out on that one...
