My wife actually requested I built a man cave to watch ND football in.

My insanity on game day frightened the children...

I always thought my reactions to big plays were normal, who knew?

Every year i count the days down to the weekends i can enjoy watching ND football. my exwife didn't grasp my passion for them which who cares as i am no longer w/ her....anyways my fiance didn't even pitch a fit when she wanted to schedule our wedding on the Oklahoma game which i asked if we could do it the weekend of the BC game and we made the switch.....ANYWAYS i have gotten a couple invites to a wedding(decent friend but certainly not close by anymeans) and then a party to which i said to my fiance i didn't want to go...she asked why and i said about it being on gamedays...she said i could always just tivo them and said how could i allow sports to dictate my life... but to me...it's not the same at all to watch a taped game.....i wait all year for these 12 weekends and a bowl weekend to enjoy something in my life that brings me great joy..not only is it the game but its the whole game day routine i look forward to.......i mentioned this to a few people at work and they think i am completely crazy....i don't expect someone who's not as passionate about something to understand but does anyone else understand how i feel????
Well said my friend thats why I'm not letting it consume anymore-this is a 6-6/7-5 football program. I'm not even going to watch much this year. Saturday is my only day off and I'm playing golf. This once proud football program has cobb webbs on it and its collecting dust.

I am pretty fortunate in that my wife is really understanding of my passion for ND football... Well, maybe "understanding" isn't the correct word, as she doesn't really understand it, but she knows it is a HUGE deal to me, and she will actually go out of her way to protect me from requests that would try to take me away on game day.

I have recorded games a few times, but never at my wife's insistence. We are going to be in Disney World for the opener this year, and she has been helping me try to find a way to stream the game on my phone. I'm pretty lucky I guess; a lot of women would feel slighted by my need to watch the game while on a family vacation.

For me, it would definitely be an issue if she weren't like this, though. I'm a pretty easy guy to deal with. I love being home with my family. I don't drink and I don't enjoy hanging out at bars unless I'm doing stand-up, so I don't think it's asking too much that I be allowed to enjoy my one big passion outside of my family, which is ND football.

The only real issue she has is, she and all the kids make sure they are out of the house on the day of the U$C game. To say I can't control my hatred for those puke bit*hes is an understatement and the vulgarities fly rather freely.

Excellent. So we won't have to pay attention to your post-game analysis and inevitable b!tching 'cause you won't even be watching the games. Good to know.

Incidentally, why do you even waste your time reading and posting on this board??? Your disdain for the program is obvious, and you don't even care enough to watch the games. And yet you spend your time on a ND board anyway??? Wow, not getting that at all.I don't spend an ounce of my free/off-time on something I don't care about or something I don't like - it's just not worth it. BUt yet here you are.

To each his own...

I have to agree.. the part about the "once proud football program" is really rubbing me the wrong way.. in what way is Notre Dame not a proud program? If we lost our pride, we'd be scheduling terrible teams, not going to Oklahoma.. a program that has lost its pride would either throw in the towel or dumb down their opponents to build momentum.. neither are true for ND.. our coaches go out there and bust their a$$es on the recruiting trail and even though we haven't been as successful as we've wanted to be in the past 10 years, we still go out and try to punch the "biggest guys in the yard" in the mouth..

I take great pride in what Notre Dame and the football program stand for.. if you can't see and feel the pride a true fan should, well then there isn't much else to say.. some people get it, some people don't.. and my brother NDinLA does

What's up, guys? I am a new poster here. My friend, jimmymac, told me this was a great site for ND football. I have been going to games since I was three and am a student at Notre Dame right now. Can't wait to post some info, but more importantly, can't wait to read everyone's stuff. Go Irish!

I understand completely what you're talking about. When ND wins, my weekend is made. When they lose, seclusion is a pretty good way to describe the rest of the night and Sunday.

Hopefully he spreads different thoughts. This is the same post in three different threads. lmao

It's nice that so many of you have understanding spouses that can deal with our crazy Irish Brotherhood obsession.I fortunately dont have to deal with all that, but the rest of my family always tries to calm my crazy *** down.
My funniest moment was 3 years ago for the USC game. My brother was marrying his wife down in Orlando at Disney. 2 nights before the wedding we all went down to the Boardwalk to the ESPNZone for dinner by my request so we could watch the game...I ended up making them stay there for 4 hours to watch us fail in the closing seconds. They hated me.lol
I could care less what anyone else thinks. For 12-13 days of the entire year I deserve the right to be a complete idiot/jackass. I LOVE my team, like we all do. I am proud that I have passion for something like this in my life.
I'm kind of upset I am going to miss the Navy game live. My dad has tickets for the Ohio St./Miami(OH) game at The Shoe and I've never been to a game there before. I am definitely taking my aircard to try and watch it online on the drive up to Columbus.Should be fun.Thank God for DVRs. lol

Great Stuff.

My plan for saturdays in the fall is simple.
8am-Noon Wife and Kids. A nice hike, picnic, and playground. Something outside. After that it is gametime. I usually have to tape the 2nd half of a couple of games, but it kills me. I have toned it done in the past couple of years after a few neighbosr glared out the windows as I stood tall in my front yard hootin and hollerin shirtless waving my ND flag after the ND/USC a couple of years ago.

I am not a tattoo guy, but when I started dating my wife and saw a tiny shamrock tattoo on the side of her lower back when I was banging her from behind I fell in love and knew I found my girl. Could be awkward when my two boys ask me when they grow up ...how did you know you loved mom..

Uh...not sure I understand you at all. You say "well said my friend, thats why I'm not going to watch ND football anymore" in response to a post saying how addicted he is to ND football and will make any sacrifice to watch our games.
How does that even remotely make sense??

My wife and kids are staying at her parents the night before the navy game due to the 8am kickoff and me being a complete lunatic on every play.

I'm lucky. my wife even though she is a Neb fan (because of her late father) loves ND sports. She will watch everything,Football, hockey, men and womens b-ball. My kids g7 and my twin boys 6 are all ND crazy. We took them to the spring game this year and had to pry them off the campus. Very proud Dad here.

Thats funny. I was best man for my friend at the game also.Limo driver looked at me funny when I told him to put the game on the radio or pull over and let me out. At the reception they had to come outside and get me to give the speech.

I should have added that my son who got married skipped the reception line to rush back to the TV with us. LOL

My whole family is ND crazy. My wife is an ND fan and the daughters in law have also become fans since joining the family. If they don't understand, you have to convert them.

My wife and I had a "Fever Pitch" courting. We met in late December of 2008 where she fell in love with the off-season me.

She knew I was a big fan, being that 75% of my clothing was ND related and I had memorabilia everywhere. She did not know how big.

Being from NY, all my friends had allegiances to different teams so I wasn't conversating with them about ND 24/7.

That September ND came out and shut out NEVADA and she got introduced to "Saturday in the Fall" me.

A pacing, yelling, fact/stat spewing, profane drunk.

She admired my passion but wondered how someone could be so affected by a University he never went to and something as trivial as football.

I explained to her the difference between college football and the NFL. Then I further defined what ND stood for and how they handled their business.

Lastly, I explained how I became a fan and how much of a bonding unit ND was for my father and I. This was not just a football team to us. We went to war with this team, year in and year out.

We both fell to our knees at the same time and coverd our heads when BC kicked that field goal. We both stayed at the hotel in Disney World to soar with the Rocket and crumble in disbelief when that little yellow flag flew for clipping. We still talk on the phone before and after every game.

As ND fans we are constantly defending ourselves and the program. Being worldwide and spread so far, we sometimes find ourselves alone in that battle.

My wife is awesome and respects my passion. In return I agree t odo whatever she wants! Yes, I'm getting a pedicure this weekend.. so yea..

It's all about compromise my friend. DVRing isn't that bad, I have to do it for work. Air Traffic Control schedules are irregular. So when I do get a Saturday off to watch a game she is all about it and dons her super tight #7 jersey...

I love the comparison of "off season me" and "in season me." Very similar story here. My girlfriend and I met back in spring and I think I've prepared her for Saturdays in the fall, but she's all about it. She was a cheerleader, likes football, and her uncle is a ND grad so she grew up liking ND.

We'll see how she handles me on game day...

It's awesome reading everybody's posts. I'm definitely going to have to show my wife. I myself planned my wedding around the ND schedule back in 07. My wife wanted the wedding on the day SC/ND played but I knew for sure that it would be a loss, so I planned it on the Navy game. A lot of the wedding party (the males) would be giving me updates throughout the ceremony. But of course, this was the game that ended the streak.

But I'm with everybody, every Saturday is about ND football. All my family and friends know not to invite me to a gathering/party because I will not attend! My wife has become a die hard fan too, took some time though.

Has anyone planned to attend a party, family function, etc etc and had the outcome of the ND game alter your plans?

This guy sure has. And then my Eagles on Sunday. Ugggggghhhhhh...

For all the young bucks on here that have girlfriends instead of wives...choose wisely. Make sure she knows who you are on Saturdays up front. I have a great buddy of mine that's a UT alum and fan and hasn't seen a damn game in about 3 years (since he's been married). She doesn't allow it because he acted a fool one day while we all watched the Red River shootout. Poor bastard has to sneak off and meet us for "lunch" every once in a while on Saturday.

It's not that they have to enjoy it. They just have to understand. My wife, thankfully, works most saturdays (has her own hairsalon) and isn't home. And I work during the week, and she's off on Monday's. So we each have our day to do as we please.

Saturday's are for the Irish in my house.

I am a woman and I would most certainly cut one of my friends if they dared get married on a football weekend. I had to officiate my cousin's wedding last year and I told her if she scheduled her wedding on 9/10 against MI I'd not go. Period. She scheduled it for 9/3 but it was early afternoon, and by the time we were done it was time for kick off and me and all the guys were huddled around a TV.

Don't Tivo the games. I have declined everything I've been invited to so far that falls on football weekend, sorry it's just the way it is. I am a football fan. If people don't like it, too bad.

My dad's side of the family is very good about not planning stuff during the football season and if you do make it the bye week. My mom's side and my wife's side are not as understanding. I am a Notre Dame Fan! I don't just read about how they did in the paper the next day. It has taken my wife a little bit and she doesn't understand why but she does now leave my ND weekends alone or makes sure it will be on wherever we go.
