This one was my favorite: Ira Schoffel Tallahassee (FL) Democrat. FSU, Michigan, Georgia, and Oklahoma all ahead of LSU. Not to mention UNC being ranked??

UNC could very well win the ACC Coastal. They are ineligible for post-season play this year. That team has a lot of talent... and Butchie.

And to add to that, if we go undefeated, we should certainly make the NC with our schedule strength.

That's the only blessing to our daunting road ahead.

With our SOS, if we lose 1 or even 2 games (presuming they are only 2 of UM, MSU, OU or USC), we should be in the NC game.

I do not understand Louisville at 25.

Louisville is my pick to win the Big East.

Honestly, I think the reason for this attack was because ESPN/ABC was contemplating not renewing his contract so he picked an easy and high profile target. He knew it would ruffle the feathers of one of the biggest fan bases in the country and everyone would be talking about it making HIM relevant for a little while prompting the big boys to renew his deal. Just my opinion.

I don't know the particulars of Reilly's contract, but do you have any evidence for this, or is it pulled from your ***? Because the ESPN folks know how this works, too, and they're not idiots.
He's not going to somehow trick them into thinking he's relevant by writing a provocative column and wracking up the hits, and thus securing a new contract. I mean, they decide how much play his stuff gets on their site, which heavily influences the number of people who'll read it. And, while he is a bigger name than, say, Mark Schlabach, anyone else in their stable would have gotten just as much traffic with the same words written about the most popular program in college football. They'll re-sign Reilly or not, but it's got little to do with this.
That said, you're probably right that Reilly was just looking for something to contribute to college football pre-season coverage that would get people talking. In that regard, he succeeded, didn't he? We've been talking about it all week.

Also, Notre Dame hasn't been over-rated since 2006. Aside from by whatever guy it was who ranked us 6th last year. But it's hardly an epidemic at this point. Maybe used to be, but not anymore.

Its going to be tough to get into a NC game with two losses, one is hard as it is.

It's nearly impossible to play for a NC if you go undefeated starting unranked.

So it's not a good thing.

But with the schedule we have, we'll be fortunate to ever reach ranking.

And to add to that, if we go undefeated, we should certainly make the NC with our schedule strength.

That's the only blessing to our daunting road ahead.

It is nearly impossible to play for a NC if you go undefeated, starting unranked, AND are an independent with no cadre of revenue sharing conference coaches voting for you. The AP doesn't figure in NC competition.

I'm hammered....but still able to call this bullshit.

But it's preseason polls...we have a brutal schedule so if we put together some wins, we'll move up fast

Butchie is out, Larry Fedora in.

I would prefer to be ranked in the Top 20 say from 15-20 as to not being ranked at all. It is very difficult to move up from unranked if teams that are ranked 20-25 start the season well, typically the top 20 simply changes positions until a team gets at least 2 losses. even though an unranked team might win, unless there is an opening to move up they don't. This may cause a team to have to win 3 in a row to move up then when they do they may lose a game by 3 points to a Top 10 team only to fall back out of the Top 25, leaving them only 6 games perhaps to move back and make a run not necessarily a NC but just a decent final ranking.

Oh, yeah. But I still stand by my prediction of them or VT to take the ACC Coastal.

And BGIF... what? I don't understand the question. I was alluding to Reilly being irrelevant with this article being his attempt to return to relevancy.

Yes he succeeded if that was his goal and here is where I read about the contract stuff. I formulated my thoughts based on this article.

Will ESPN Walk Away From Rick Reilly And His $3 Million Contract? Probably, Source Says

Fair enough. But I'd still contend that ESPN brass aren't going to renew his contract just because he wrote some lazy column that generated a bunch of hits. ESPN's got ten other guys who could've written the same thing with the same result, and they don't get paid $3M.
