OT but I've been looking for a thread like this (obviously not too hard) to discuss transfer stuff (like PSG spending millions of dollars this week) , will be bumping in the future.

EDIT from NDinL.A. - New thread to discuss the transfer season and the EPL and other European soccer news.

I hope he comes through, because we've been let down badly in recent times. We need a striker desperately. Altidore and Agudelo both got the hype machine, and neither have materialized thus far. I love Dempsey cutting in from the left in Jurgen's 4-3-3 and Lando menacing down the right. If we get a striker I would be made up with our front three.

Michael Bradley is really starting to shine in my opinion. Hopefully he can push his way into the starting XI at Roma and continue his great progress. Jermaine Jones is also great for us in CM paired with Mike. Someone will have to step up into the other CM spot, but I'm pretty happy with filling one slot in the MF and FW areas.

Our defense needs to get younger, quickly. CB is critical to shore up before next WC. We cannot rely on Boca for 2014. I'm sorry but he's getting on. We need some pace at the CB position.

All in all I'm very pleased with Jurgen's work thus far. Still a lot to do but I'm happy we're finally getting U.S. Soccer together with a vision from the lowest levels. That has always hurt us. We put a premium on winning instead of development.

Sorry I got a little off topic. Basically I wanted to reply about having been burned before on our great American striker. Most kids can't handle the hype at that age and it hurts their development.

Griff, is Dempsey going to Liverpool in your opinion? I saw tons of talk about it, even a Skynews report that said it was a done deal. Has anything materialized?

Not a done deal at all. NESN(FSG's((OWNS LFC)) media branch stateside) reported it was done when in fact it was not. I'd imagine many are being fired today.

Our manager actually did a piece with LFCTV stating how we have just inquired about him but nothing more to cool the backlash from NESN jumping the gun. I would imagine we would love to get him because he's scored 36 goals the last two seasons and can play anywhere up front or out wide. We love versatility and he's hitting his peak. Couple that with our American owners and wanting to tap into emerging markets, and I think you have a great case for signing America's best player to unveil while filming a documentary which will be aired on Fox Soccer during the North American summer tour for LFC. Can you say influx of fans stateside?

It makes perfect marketing sense and football sense, as he gives us goals and versatility, which we desperately need. I can see the obvious benefits and perfect timing of the rumors. Either way, he would sell a ton of shirts in America where we are sports crazy, and he would grab a bunch of new fans just getting turned on to the sport here in an emerging market. We may not be the holy grail of Asia, but we have money to flush into the revenue streams of LFC. I don't know if Rodgers wants him or if the owners are pushing it though. We'll see. I think we get him.

Thanks Griff. I don't think I can bare to see him stay at Fulham any longer. Love Dempsey, and I want to see him on a squad where he could make it to the Champions League, whether its in England or not. Liverpool seems like the best viable option. I hope you guys pick him up

Me too. I've held off on ordering a new LFC jersey and if Dempsey signs I'll know who's going on it. It's great he's stayed at Fulham, proves he's loyal. He has stayed the whole time gave them back their investment but wants an opportunity at a bigger club as he hits his peak. No one will fault him for it and I have some serious American pride and I would love him to be at LFC.

I have to deal with the yahoos on LFC official forums slating him as not good enough and not LFC quality. Blah blah blah. The **** they say about Americans and then they spout off with such bullshit. He outscored our two best strikers combined last year...from midfield. He would be a great addition and I'd be thrilled.

As a Man city fan and our club being the poster boys of FFP(Financial Fair Play). It amazes me how little concern it seems clubs like PSG and Chelsea have for the new rules... They have spent massively without offloading much cash. Does anyone actually see these rules being enforced??

From a Man City transfer prepective: Eden Hazard and Thiago Silva were two main targets this transfer window. Eden Hazard fell through because of astronomical agent fees Manchester City werent willing to pay, and Silva was valued at around 40m by Milan a little to high for City for a 27 yr old CB. It seems like City is the only "Big Spending" team taking the new rules seriously, but there is still over a month of transfer madness so time will tell.

PS. I also hope Dempsey goes to Liverpool, would be a great fit IMO

Chelsea won the CL, which is £50m+ not to include the gates from every match and each win per round. They are still way overspending, but City is right there my friend. Chelsea and City are on another planet when it comes to offering wages in the PL. PSG at least has a major metropolitan market for the turnstiles, but they have no where near the global appeal of the PL as far as domestic league goes. Their plan appears to be load up on stars to win, get into the CL, and grow their base from having awesome flair players like Ibra. Mancini at least built a squad irrespective of looks.

Also, Thiago Silva is widely considered the best center half in the world. Hazard wanted £170,000/w so I can understand why Man City was apprehensive as he wasn't proven at the highest level yet. Yaya and Tevez are both on £200,000/w and Aguero is on what, £150,000? Their wage bill is enormous.

Agreed. They made a lot of money but the amount of money they have spent on transfers over the last two years dwarfs Manchester City. Got to remember a lot of Manchester Citys high contracts that they can't/couldn't sell off: Adeybayor, RSC, Bellamy, and Wayne Bridge don't count against FFP.

. Chelsea and City are on another planet when it comes to offering wages in the PL.

True no disputing that. Although this will come back to haunt MUFC because of the way they're dealing with Nani and his contract and losing their stud youth player Pogba because of contract dispute. Although they did bend over for Rooney..

IMO... as far as CL football is concerned im more frightened by what PSG could become. The attraction of one of the most beautiful cities this world has ever seen...unlimited riches...and the fact they can rest their players weekly because of playing in a week domestic league. They will be a force in two years time. Defense is still very suspect to challenge this year, but the difference between them and City at the beginning of their spending is they have the star power of Lenardo, and Carlo Ancelotti to recruit players whereas Manchester City had Mark Hughes. Plus I believe Micheal Platini son works for PSG so the odds of him kicking PSG out of champs league no matter how much they spend is minimal... and hes french

Also, Thiago Silva is widely considered the best center half in the world.

For me Kompany but im biased lol. But he is great just 40m a lot for 27 yr old defender though.

Apologize for grammar mistakes sure there are plenty.

I concur about PSG. A totally weak league where you can offer decent wages for the squad players who have to step in rarely. Can still spend big with the allure of ****ing Paris. Yea it's a formula for success, but they will no ****ing way meet FFP. Not a chance.

Bridge is on loan still being paid by City. They are still offering crazy wages, look at Nasri, and no one wants to leave because no one will make that much anywhere else. We'll take your rejects on frees though, Bellars worked out nicely.

Kompany? Great, he's up there and he'd walk into any side in the PL, but the best in the world? That's ****ing ballsy my friend. It was £49m for Thiago Silva and Zlatan, or one Fernando Torres
rofl.gif
So really, halve that and any team with the capability would pay that for Silva. Ibra is getting old but he can do it all. Silva is just peaking and will continue to be arguably the best CB in the world for a few more years.

Platini is a ****ing ****, just like Sepp at FIFA. Corruption is rampant all over western society. Football is no different. I would not be shocked if they don't enforce it. That would take huge balls. I'm still devastated that LFC didn't accept the Arab bid widely reported to be your Sheikh. We gave it to H&G
facepalm6.gif

Enjoy it. All I have to look forward to is hopeful CL qualification and a Man City title. I can't cheer for Chelsea against ManU, **** Spurs and Arsenal, they are gunning for fourth with us. So all my eggs are in the City basket to keep United close to our title count until we have our resurgence and overtake them again.

Agreed. I just cant see Platini kicking out a team from his home country filled with world class players. FFP imo wont hold up in the courts anyways. I have no legal education whatsoever but I think it pretty obvious you cant restrict a billionaire on how to spend his money. The only thing I would personally have a problem with is if CITY went out and spent 200M on each Rolando and Messi to activate whatever their astronomical buy-out clauses are and build a world 11 team(with the money Sheikh Mansour has he could lol). That would be ruining football

It is to my understanding that deals done before 2011 dont count against FFP. Which is what I meant with Bridge. That we can pay him to go play for Brighton basically as all it does is cost Mansour some pocket change. Don't even get me started on Bellamy one of my favorite players, and Mancini handling of him and SWP last transfer window was sickening. Then to complain throughout the season about not having any width...talk about *facepalm*

Kompany obviously because I watch him the most. I just see him as the complete defender he has no weak spot, and the way he shadows Rooney out of Derbies is a sight to behold. But, once again very biased opinion, plus not playing for prominent National team hurts his pedigree.

I hope we can keep the good times rolling for you watching City play last season was the most enjoyment i've got from a sport team since the 02 ND season when we started 8-0 I believe. Oh how fast ten years has felt sighhh

It seems all of you follow transfers closer than I do so I ask, is Barcelona expected to sign anyone else this summer besides Jordi Alba (future #1 LB in the world IMO)?

I know Javi Martinez is a popular name and would love him to succeed Puyol.

They are talking about Javi, but I'd expect them to get everyone back after their holiday. Players get four weeks after the Euros so expect a late transfer window.

They've been saying **** for a week. LFC has closed ranks in regard to transfers since the sacking of the last comms director, but BR did confirm we've inquired about him, so I'd expect it to be done soon so he can join up with the N.A. tour. That's if it happens. Also Joe Allen who was at Swansea with Rodgers is being talked about. Walcott as well. I expect a big(ger) signing towards the end of the window, possibly a striker to replace the departing Carroll.

The new rumor is Daniel Agger, fit right into the passing outfit Barca have. Javi Martinez seems very loyal to his club(which is nice and sad to see because City is supposedly in for him as well) his buyout is 40M from reports a little to rich for Barca I believe.

Also a report came out on Monday I believe that they had agreed to a 60M deal for Neymar. Made the rounds on twitter not sure how credible it was. But with the Spanish economy in the shape it is, I hope this means Barca will be looking to sell some of their fringe players such as Pedro. Would love him at City.

Hope this helps.

Daniel Agger would be perfect (lefty even) and was impressive at Euro 2012

Barcelona says they have a budget of $40 million and have spent some on Alba already but want to sell Affelay I think, so if Javi Martinez wants in I think they'd pay up.

YOU ARE NOT GETTING ****ING AGGER. That is tabloid rumors. The only confirmed contact has been Martinez. They already purchased first negotiating rights for Neymar at €15m. So they will get him, but I don't see that working out well with his ego.

It seems to me that the departure of Carroll is what they are waiting on. Get rid of him and get who they can while taking as little on the chin as possible. I like Joe Allen but another midfielder?

Cole, Henderson, Gerrard, Adam, Sterling, Shelvey, Lucas, Aquilani,.....Who do you see fitting into the 4-3-3. It seems to me that Henderson is Gerrard lite, Adam has no palce now, Shelvey maybe in the center and we have no one who can play rightside midfield. Without hte above mentioned transfers, it does not look like a good set up now. I would hate to see Lucas go because he has done nothing but what has been asked of him by Liverpool. Classy act all the way around.

I like our back four (think Carragher should retire or be limited to FA cup games, love the guy, but just saying) and kelly and robinson as youngsters.

Sterling (Suso), Gerrard (Shelvey, Henderson, Adam), Cole (Walcott)
Dempsey (can play anywhere really), Borini, Suarez?

I have to say I am really high on Suso and Sterling and hope they get a chance.....

I will fly to Barthelona and personally end that deal! ;) Agger is off the table...No way. Big mistake by Rogers to let him go. I rank him as one of the besst Centers in the world.

Just a bummer he is made out of glass..or I would certainly agree with you.

Also, what is the opinion of Andy Carroll with you Liverpool guys? Looking on from a far it seemed he was really coming into his own toward the end of the campaign. His performance in the FA cup was great single-handley bringing Liverpool from the dead coming up a little short.

Is it just a case of not fitting into Rodgers new Barcelona esque attack...or something more. Because to lose that much money on a transfer has got to be a little upsetting.

Well we need DM cover for Lucas or someone to partner with him in CM, as BR plays a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. Lucas is going nowhere, and Hendo needs to be brought along slower as we were shown last year. It will be him or someone like Aqua or even Allen if we get him starting next to Lucas. We have a log jam in CM, and I think Cole and maybe Adam are on the way out. We'll see.

Youth with absolutely get a chance. Our academy is second to La Masia, since Rafa stole Pep Segura and Rodolfo Borrell right out from under them. Guardiola even said that only LFC is even remotely close to the quality of academy set up at Barca, so our youth will be key in the future. We have been implementing pass and move at the youth level for years so it should start to bear fruit with players like Sterling, Wisdom, Robinson, Suso, Ibe, and Sinclair coming through. We have a very talented academy and Brendan has stated if you're good enough, you're old enough.

He also wanted Raheem on loan last year at Swans so there is no doubt in my mind that our talented youth will be getting a run out in the Europe League and cup ties. Very exciting season knowing Rodgers will have time to implement his philosophy. I also think there will be an exciting signing this summer. Maybe not a huge name but big enough.

It also sucks that a club with such history and prestige as Arsenal now seems to lead the EPL in stud player exoduses. They need to get it figured out - they have the money. Spend to keep your players or forever be fighting for 3rd and 4th place simply to make the Champions.
