We will wear white as we always do at away games because the game is still being played in the northern hemisphere. Now if it were in the southern hemisphere since it is spring there, we would be obliged to wear darks, and then a knockout green would be fine . . .

I could see a tweak being made to our white uni's. Maybe an Ireland flag on the chest or sleeve. Something along those lines but nothing major. Hope I am wrong and we see an entire different uniform.

Unless Navy and Notre Dame have some sort of agreement, the Irish will be in white.

Judging by the cleats and the socks, one would think they're heading towards a white jersey accented with green and orange.

We might see a Notre Dame looking surprisingly like the (evil) Miami Hurricanes. It'd be great for Ireland, but would ND actually dress like one of their rivals?

We "dress" like Navy. It doesn't matter the color scheme, Notre Dame is Notre Dame as long as the helmet is gold, and green/blue/white is the dominant color. Unless i see a U on the helmet, we will never look like Miami.

I'm on my phone so it's hard to tell in that pic but that kinda looks like the jersey to me. Irish on the front with a green/orange number with the Leprechaun mascot on the shoulders maybe?

Is Navy the home team??? If so it may be green numbers like the 92 sugar bowl... I'd like that even more honestly.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I feel the same. I just mean there has to be green involved. Should of clarified better.

Ryan Grooms just tweeted this picture of some of the gear the players will be wearing in Ireland. With those socks especially, I'm expecting something at least a little bit out of the ordinary. Green jerseys at least. Maybe jerseys similar to the ones worn against SC in 07?

Speaking of green jerseys and the Ireland game, are we home or away? It just occurred to me that we played Navy at home last season so they'll probably be the home team. I guess that explains why CBS is televising it and this doesn't count as a Shamrock Series game. Rats.

wtf why can't he take a full picture of the jersey? lol he must enjoy torturing 1000's of people

That is a picture of the socks and the undershirt, not the jersey. In fact it looks like he may have put two undershirts in that picture.

I believe Grooms tweeted a picture of the undershirt already in the past.

It's white with a big ND monogram on the front filled in with the Irish flag colors.

The inside of the arms have "IRISH" on one side and the leprechaun on the other, with some Irish flag accents in there. That part is pretty similar to the Maryland "flesh colored" undershirts worn against Maryland last year.

The socks would seem to suggest we're likely to see a non-traditional away white jersey. However, they did say they would only be wearing different uniforms for the Shamrock Series game, in which case we might see the Irish flag cleats, socks, accented undershirt with the regular blue/gold white jersey and maybe a patch or something---which would look stupid IMO.

We'll see...

i find it difficult to believe that a green and orange could be prominent on any jersey and still look good with a gold helmet. somebody prove me wrong.

Don't look at me. Sounds nauseating.

My take is that, in light of the Irish being tied to tradition, "we," the Fighting Irish, should respect that and stay as true to our traditional uniform as possible. A "splash" here or there is fine, but a wholesale, glitzy or garish attempt at being more attractive to the latest fad isn't.

Just my "old timer" (but not quite ND Nation) opinion.

So then you are not advocating a return to leather helmets and coconut jock straps?

I'm hoping for shamrocks on the helmet that are colored in like the Irish flag. White jerseys with green numbers outlined in orange. Maybe the Irish flag or leprechaun or ND on the sleeves that is either green or orange or a mix. The pants could have the same shamrock that's on the helmet, but just on the front thigh on one of the sides. That's really the only way I see a uniform with these colors working with the gold helmet.

I hope ND researches the history of the Irish flag before they plan a feature for their uniform, especially if they include much orange.

Details please?

Green represents the Irish Republic, while Orange represents those in Ireland who were still loyal to England. That's why you'll always see green represent Ireland as its primary color and not orange. That's also why you should never wear orange to a St. Patrick's day parade. My friend wore and orange sweater last year and didn't hear the end of it haha.

I think BogTrotter just meant that whoever is creating the uniform should know this before they go too crazy with the orange.

But orange IS on their flag. It is already on the shoes, socks, and undershirt as well.

I'm hoping for traditional away unis with the socks and cleats as the tribute to the Ireland game. I didn't really care for the under shirts during the Shamrock Series game. I think keeping it classy and in most ways, tied to traditional ND is the best way to go. Nothing too flashy. A great example is the UTL unis. Those, imo, were perfect. My preference would be traditional unis all season with the exception of the neutral sites being green unis and one big night game UTL style (Michigan this year).

So why would Orange be on the Irish flag if they don't like it?

My understanding of the previous posts would be if orange was the "only" or predominant color it may be offensive to some for the reasons stated about what it represents.
