From ISD:

“Me and Coach Hiestand were talking maybe two, three times a day,” Roman Catholic coach Joe McCourt told ISD. “He just wanted to make sure Will got out to Notre Dame this weekend because that was the game plan. He didn’t want Penn State saying they didn’t want him going out there. Coach Hiestand really did a lot of leg work, talking to his mom and talking to Will to make sure he got out there this weekend.

“Coach Hiestand was the one who took this thing by storm.”

It's funny how soon we forget about last year (Neal and Brown) when we want to try and make an argument.

I mean where are these "game changers" in the 2013 class going to play to with Neal, Brown, Carlise, Ferguson, and at least one (more like at least two) TE(s) on the field. Not to mention Russell is as likely to move back to the Z as he is to stay at CB.

Back to the real point, congrats Fuller. Welcome and Go Irish.

I think he's referring to another Michael Floyd type, a truly elite player that could play from day 1 of stepping on campus. His 1st college career reception is a touchdown kinda player.

Ahh, the feeling you get when you take a player from PSU... There's nothing quite like it.

Welcome to ND Fuller!

Good for him for coming to his mind and going elsewhere. Even better that he chose ND. This class is basically full right now. Hopefully no decommits and grab a few more studs and we have a top 5 class!

Well I'm glad that the staff got a commitment from a targeted player. Especially so when Notre Dame had 18/22 (23?) places taken and had the luxury of waiting on players. He came to camp, and they were obviously impressed.

That said...this offer list.....well the reaction is a "mehh." I like arguing with my friends about how many of the underrated guys have great offer lists (e.g. Mattingly and Alabama) and a ton of athleticism, ability, and potential.

So, what do I say about Fuller?

Neal isn't a truly elite player? I mean he was the #1 athlete in his class. Speed, clean route running, and good hands are what's needed on the outside in Kelly's offense, the true playmaker(s) go on the inside. I also think James Onwualu projects a lot like a MF3 type of player, very similar playing styles and builds. We'll just have to see how he develops.

Other than that, IMO I think MJ12666 was just splitting hairs to split hairs.

Neal definitely looks to be an elite player. But I was talking about the outside position where we don't have a Floyd like player with size and speed. Floyd was a beast from the start, and I don't see that with Onwalwau. He could develop later to be a very good wr, but will he be a game changer? That remains to be seen.

I think Onwualu turns out to be a very solid player but I agree that he probably won't be a true game changer. he's got good height and speed to be a productive player though.

No need to imagine that reality is created by the arguments your friends will accept. The reality is, like you said, ND is not desperate for recruits and got a kid it wanted that is getting great reviews and is well suited for a spread.

Let's not go overboard on this one. Hopefully he will be open to playing CB and turns out to be a good one. ND really needs some "game changing" receivers and none of the current 2013 verbals fit this description. Not to say they can't be productive, but if you want to compete for the National Championship you will need better then "productive" players.

I trust our coaching staff. I'm sure they discussed different positions with him. If they think he's good enough, thats good enough for me. Go Irish!

Let's remember that Floyd benefited greatly by being on the same field as Golden Tate, who was doubled and/or cloud covered nearly every play. Floyd also had a QB who could chuck it (and had a license to do so freely) in Clausen (despite his propensity to toss INTs, I think he had 15 or 16 that year if I recall correctly). Also any offensive production numbers now would be skewed because of the p!ss poor running game during that season and coaching regime. The shear reliance on the pass and Tate's ridiculousness benefited MF3 greatly and really helped his statistical output. Not that Floyd wasn't a great freshman, but in my opinion he had a perfect storm (his talents, the offense, Tate) that sure didn't hurt his production.

Great pick up. We need a big game changing wr with some size. Haven't signed one since Floyd.

Save this shiit for a different day. Kid just committed to Notre Dame and you feel the need to rain on his parade.

I am not "raining on his parade". I did say anything negative about his signing other to say I hope he plays on the defensive side of the ball.

By the way, your post is very mature.

Favorite Penn St. quote about Fuller and PSU commits/targets as well "Nd and Kelly are like a venus fly trap... our guys just never get out of there."

I keep reading he has great size, his profile shows 6'1", 165lbs. ?????? As long as that is referencing a CB and not a WR. Just wondering? I am happy with the pick-up though.

That was Bennett Jackson's measurements coming out to.

After watching Fuller's highlight tape I don't think he's as fast as Bennett Jackson is in pads. He may run a 4.4 out of pads but in pads he looks more like a 4.6 guy. I like his ball skills though.
