I dislike ever posting a downer note on any of these threads, but he has apparently expressed some interest in Veterinary Medicine. Auburn is one of his favorites allegedly, and it has a top VMed program, as does Florida. OSU, sickeningly, is #5, and Urban recently offered. We need to hope that his educational plans are somewhat flexible, and that Notre Dame's excellent Biology program can serve as a prelim to Vet-advanced degree. And, that his Mom also sees it this way.
About 10 years ago my wife and I were staying at the Auburn Hotel on campus while one of our dogs was having surgery at AU. After meeting with the vet early Friday evening we went back to the hotel and walked into THE football recruiting weekend of the year. Our hotel was were ALL the recruits were staying.
As is my custom I was wearing an ND hat. In the elevator a woman with what appeared to be a recruit under escort by a AU coach, asked me if Auburn was a good school. "Ma'm," I replied, I didn't go to school here but I have a brother-in-law- and sister-in-law that did and they hold it in high regard." I glanced at the AU coach who was holding his breath.
The woman explained her son, a touted QB, needed to find a school that would provide a solid education for a career after football. She then asked specifically about ND noting she heard it was fine school but she didn't know if her sons grades were good enough to get in ND. I agreed ND had a fine academic record but noted even though I was not affliated with ND I though it would be improper for me to comment on a different school while her son was on an Official Visit here. As I stepped off the elevator at my floor, I turned to her and noted, "Bottom line, if your son wants to be a Vet there isn't a finer school for that then Auburn."
About 15 minutes later I got to meet Coach T, who was quite anxious to know why ND personnel were at his school during an Official Recruiting Weekend. I offered him my driver's license and my business card neither of which were from Indiana and also showed him my dog's surgery registration papers. He was satisfied but still concerned. I noted that his assistant coach heard the entire exchange and could attest to my praise of the UA VMed School."
On Monday the kid committed to Maryland. Never did hear how what he majored in.
