Hit from behind and the player didn't have the puck.

So you can't hit in the back and you can't hit them when they don't have the puck or can you hit them anywhere but the back when they don't have puck? Plus what is Icing?

The big penalty was boarding. If they aren't up against the boards you can't hit someone into them. Icing is when the puck goes across two red lines untouched. You can ice the puck when on a penalty kill though.
