Again... no one is saying that. We are talking about which one is/was the bigger prospect.

I don't understand why people aren't getting the difference.

You cant compare them as college players because Jaylon isn't in college. We are comparing them as prospects, not players.

This....

Legitimate question. Very different styles and skill sets. Regardless, both are beasts. I'd say as a PROSPECT (both coming out of HS), Jaylon has a little bit of an edge. Who knows how it pans out. If Jaylon is 80% of the player Teo is, I'll be a very happy camper! Both are crazy talented, and more importantly, both are fantastic kids.

the bigger get is by far Manti... not because of ability or strength or position .. but because we snagged him in the 12th hour from USC. If Smith doesnt go to ND he will play for OSU. Manti was a double whammy -- not only did we get the best LB prospect since who knows when, but we also stole him from our biggest rivals extended backyard... I couldnt imagine what our offense would have looked like if they had Teo lined up across from us for four years!!

straight prospect comparison, I dont think its a fair comparison. Smith is built for the outside while Teo is built for the inside. I guess just from athletic ability alone for the outside LB position gives Smith the nod but then again I think Teo put an end to any type of slip and middle screens

I love that we are talking about a kid in the same light as Teo.

As YJ said, it would be incredible if Smith turned out to be 80% of what Teo is.

It would have been awesome to see Te'o and Smith play together....but when you look at it...Te'o is the catalyst for great LBs to come to ND...Te'o played a key part in potentially landing Jaylon...Jaylon no doubt will play a key role in getting key LBs this year and in years to come to head to ND

Phork, I can tell you have been hurt my friend, but there are other fish in the sea. Move on from those once wonderful fish to the next big fish. I'm just being silly bro, but if your gonna follow recruiting you just gotta take the bad with the good. I hated losing those kids too and you know as well as I do we were a much more talented football team with them than without, but one could argue we will be a better team without.

I don't follow recruiting enough to care.

The points about Teo's situation vs Jaylon's are really good. I didn't think of it that way until you guys said it. Guys like Tuitt, Ishaq, etc all were made possible when we showed the country that we could go out and grab an elite defensive recruit from the big boys.

Now, it seems like we feel like we can go beat out anybody for the very best defensive prospects.

Jaylon will get to play with guys like Tuitt and Ishaq as upper classmen. He will get to play his entire career with guys like Day, Jones, Rochell (maybe).

Thank you Teo... you made a bright defensive future for Notre Dame possible. We all owe him a debt of gratitude.

I hope he wins the Butkis this year.

I wish he could get Treadwell to give us a real look. Anybody know how close they got through the camp circuit?

Top talents attracts other top talents. other recruits will recognize this. Smith is very vocal. Will for the get go become our best recruiter. I can't speak volumes about how big of a get this is. Kid might just plug in at dog from day 1 hes that good. By the way its unfair to compare Jaylon to Manti. I was like a little kid on Christmas, when Manti committed maybe because it was unexpected. If Jaylon turns out half as good as Manti it will be a home run. I think some of you dont appreciate how good Manti is and what he means to this university.

He seems to talk to a lot of top recruits on twitter. Maybe he could get Vernon Hargreaves to visit.

Yep, crazy awesome. Hoping Ishaq blossoms this year and gives us the inside/outside combo we've been waiting for. Will be nice to have 2x OLB awesomeness in the years to come....

And regarding the upswing in D recruiting, the staff has done far better than I ever thought they would. I'd like to see them nail down a few blue chip WRs and RBs on the other side though. Other than that, phenomenal.

Laqoun has a lead pack of OSU, Michigan and OU. We are somewhere in that secondary pack. Its only June for a guy who will decide late in the process.
