With the big lead, we should be okay the rest of the season. The playoffs is where this is going to hurt.

Sox took 3 of 4 from NY than got swept at home by Rays.

Sox had 4 doubles and 3 HRs today and scored only 4 runs, 1 for 11 RISP.

Cashner gave up 7 runs on 7 hits, 5 BBs in 5+ innings.

LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (13-4, 4.13) gets the start Friday night in the opener of a four-game set against the first-place Yankees in New York. Rodriguez tied a career high for victories Saturday when the Red Sox beat the Yankees 9-5.

TB now 7.0 games behind 9 in the Loss Column. Sox 10.5 and 12.

Yankees vs. Red Sox: Take Boston and surging Eduardo Rodriguez
By Greg Peterson, VSiN August 2, 2019 | 4:01pm

Eduardo Rodriguez has a 13-4 record for the Red Sox, who have gone 17-5 in his starts this season (with the total also going Over in 17 of the 22 games). He is getting an average of 7.9 runs of support per start and has pitched his best recently, posting a 2.03 ERA with opponents hitting .189 off of him in five starts in July.

Lefty James Paxton, who opposes him, is allowing 1.7 home runs per nine innings, and the Yankees have lost all five of his starts in July. In four of those, the Yankees provided him with four runs of support or fewer. For the year, the Yankees are 9-9 in his starts and scoring nearly 5.8 runs per game. Paxton is allowing just under 3.85 home runs per nine innings in July, posting a 5.68 ERA with opponents hitting .336.

Boston is 32-22 on the road this season, and the Yankees actually score less than a full run per game fewer at home than on the road. This looks to be a good spot for the Sox to make a statement in the opener of a crucial series.

The play: Red Sox, +110.

BoSox Lose 5th In A Row 4-2

BoSox Lose 5th In A Row 4-2

Martinez hit a 2 run HR off Paxton in the top of the 1st. In the bottom half Torres hit a 4 run HR off Rodriquez. Game Over. The pitchers silenced the batters thereafter.

Yankees 35th comeback win.

The only team with a winning record when opponents score first, 23-21.

Paxton gave up the HR but only 1 other hit through 6 innings.

Sox 11.5 behind.

Didi out with injured glove hand. Day to day ... hopefully.

Saturday Split Doubleheader

Saturday Split Doubleheader

Yankees better on mound ahead of twin bill vs. Red Sox
Last week, in a stretch of seven games, the New York Yankees saw their rotation post a 16.62 ERA.
by FLM 1 hr ago •

...

German is facing the Red Sox for the second straight outing and fifth time in his career. He recorded his first career win over Boston Sunday night at Fenway Park when he allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings and is 4-0 with a 4.67 ERA since returning from the injured list July 3.

Green has a 2.31 ERA in eight starts as the opener.

Chris Sale (5-10, 4.26) is 4-3 with a 4.97 ERA in his last 10 starts and starts Game 1 for Boston. Sale was unable to win a third straight start Sunday when he allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings against New York.

Sale is 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA against the Yankees this season and 6-7 with a 2.46 ERA in 20 career appearances (17 starts) against New York.

Brian Johnson (1-1, 6.43) is expected to make his third start of the season and eighth appearance for the Red Sox in the nightcap. Johnson has been on the injured list since June 29 due to a non-baseball related medical matter.

Johnson is 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA in five career appearances (two starts) against the Yankees.

You wanted a bullpen game. The bullpen (Green) gave up 4 in 2.1 innings.

What was the margin of victory ... 4 runs.

CC did pretty much as expected but like with Sale, his bullpen didn't support him and the big scoring offense didn't score big.

Yikes...do you all not get I'm trying to look from your view stand point. Fat Lefty went on the DL after that start...

No Sale! All German!

Sale struggled and once again the vaunted Boston offense left it in the batting cage.

Strong outing by the ace, 2 runs through 7 innings, MLB best 14th win.

LeMahieu, Gardner, and Encarnacion each had 3 hits and together drove in 8 runs. LeMathieu had a lead off HR and a 3 run shot. He's an MVP contender.

NY 9-4 vs Sox.

Encarnacion,Broken Wrist, 15th Yankee On Injury List

Hit on the wrist in the first game today. Went on 10 IL. Not a short term injury could be done for the season.

Per NY Post:
New York's top three first baseman are all on the injured list now. This is the team's first base depth chart:

Luke Voit (on the injured list and facing surgery for a sports hernia)
Edwin Encarnacion (on the injured list with a broken wrist)
Greg Bird (on the injured list since May with a torn plantar fascia)
DJ LeMahieu
Mike Ford (called up to replace Encarnacion)

Per NY Post:

Yankees win second game 6-4.

Aaron Hicks injures his elbow. MRI upcoming. But doesn’t look good and maybe done for the season.

Edwin E though I think will be back in early September with hairline fracture in wrist.

Urshela, 51, and Tauchman, 31, have more RBIs than Judge, 29.

The pinstripes have had a couple of series during the year that made it look like it was going to be a tough road to how, but then they started plowing with ease.

Price has struggled with the Red Sox in New York. You’d think Cora would know that and start someone else. Glad he’s their manager and not ours

Most of their staff has struggled in NY this season. I don't know that he had viable options. They moved Eovaldi to the bullpen to bolster an ineffective relief corps after he returned from injury and I don't know if he's any more effective starter than price. Rodriquez has the best record but his stats aren't that much better than Sale. Similar innings pitched, Rodriquez has 1/2 a run better ERA. Sox have allowed more unearned runs with Sale on the mound. One has 13 wins the other 11 losses.

9-6 NY. 6 in a row.

Bottom 4 hitters in the order, Gardner, Romaine, Tauchman, and Valera have 8 of the 12 hits, 5 of the 7 EXB hits including 4 HRs and a 3B, drove in 7 of the 8 RBIs, and scored 8 of the 9 runs.

Kahnle Blown Save, Ottavino the Win, Champman the Save.

Sox end Losing Streak at 8.

TB Win Streak ends, trail by 9.5, 10 in the Loss Column

He's been burying Sale, hence my reply. When you look at his and Rodriquez stats together they're real close except for the 1/2 run ERA difference. I suspect BoSox run production is better for Rodriquez, defense has been a little tighter and, the bullpen may have done better for him than Sale.
