Worst loss since the bush push

For me emotionally anyway... This one hurts as bad as the bush push... we (again) have a chance at a big statement win that could finally get the program moving in the right direction on the field and nope, sorry, just like the last twenty games of this magnitute, we lose...

we have a two touchdown lead at the half... gave the game away a NUMBER of times... we make another good back look like Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl... and now have to listen to Mark May dance around the "I told you so ring" for god knows how long...

I don't know what to say really other than it feels like it's back to the drawing board all over again, anyone care to try and spin this one??? I'd be very grateful if you could b/c this time I can't

This definetely stings. Some dubious play calling in the ot's, against a team that gave 6 passing td's to rutgers, they should not lose games like these.

Wanstadt is a lousy coach and he found a way to beat us on our home field. CW needs to take some shit over this one and JC can issue an apology as well. MArk May can keep talking because CW keeps proving him right.

For some reason (alcohol?), I'm not as PO'd about this loss as I usually am. I don't blame this loss on anyone but the coaching staff. 7 total yards of offense in the 3rd killed us. Totally unacceptable. This game shouldn't have even gone into OT. This is all the coaching staff's fault.

i'm going to pull a mick2 and disappear for awhile. i'm simply disgusted right now. we gave another game away and it hurts. i'll maybe show up for USC week. i have 2 tickets for the navy game and refuse to waste the gas to drive down there. it'll be interesting to see how the recruiting goes from this point on. this one could hurt a lot as that trail has gone really cold.

I am only going to put up one post about this game. I am from Pittsburgh and I HATE PITT. I hate them more than any other team, so I am going to try to put my anger away to make some legit points.

First of all, McCoy is a beast. I took some heat for saying he is the best RB we will face this year, but after today, I truly believe it. The key for our defense was to not let him beat us. But he did, bottom line.

As far as offense goes, the playcalling killed us. Way to conservative in the second half, and especially in OT. We could have won this game. We should have won this game.

Let's try to spin this into some sort of positive. Mick is right, we are an average team right now. But that is okay. It is alot better than what we were last year. As much as I hate Pitt, they are pretty good. Wanny has been pulling in some pretty good recruiting hauls and now it is paying off. We saw two pretty evenly matched teams out there today.

We were never going to win the national championship this year, and it was highly unlikely we were going back to the BCS. Im sure the boys in the locker room are crushed right now. This is the type of loss that will actually HELP us close out games next year. It hurts like hell now. But it is all part of the learning process.

As far as coaching goes, I firmly believe Charlie will make the adjustments. He has shown the ability to adapt before, I bet he does it again.

I think the boys will come out on fire next week. BC is very beatable. The question is will we finish the job.

That is all I am going to say about this game. I know there will be alot of complaining about it, questioning everyone from the quarterback to the coach, and frankly I just dont want to be a part of all that this week. See you all when it is time to talk about BC.

Who cares if he does? CW will give his usual spin: the guys played hard, I'll take the blame, dah dah dah. Doesn't matter. Can't take back stupid calls in OT.

More important than taking the heat, perhaps CW could explain how ND loses a game to a team that throws 3 INTs and just got clobbered by Rutgers. (Ok, it start with being unable to stop the run.) But don't fool yourselves, this was not a loss that builds character. Pitt sucks. North Carolina is totally and utterly mediocre. MSU just barely beat Wisconsin, which sucks. We keep losing in the same way, to the same crap teams that wouldn't hang 7 on Florida or Texas.

This ND team isn't deeply flawed, but it's poorly led. CW has yet to show he knows how to put together the pieces of the puzzle. I don't know what CW does after he gets up at 5 a.m. or whatever, but it isn't building a team and coaching staff that performs on game day.

I'll be back tomorrow to buy into the ND Kool-Aid... Disappointed, certainly...but this is my team. Hell, we're used to this abuse here in C-Town.

Georgia got destroyed. Texas is coming back and I may not lose all of my v-bucks afterall.

Michigan LOST TO PURDUE, now has a losing season, no bowl AND maybe ND can start inching up on the all time win %.

They didn't even get to the Jello Bowl last year. Not even a thought of it. Instead of blowing leads, they never had any leads. Instead of playing only half a good game, we got excited when they played a good series. Remember hearing "Fourth Down Jesus" last year? The damage of Davie-Willingham didn't happen over three seasons and its not going to get fixed in three seasons either. Charlie has as big a learning curve as the team.

I just think that getting upset this year is setting yourself up for disappointment week after week. I am waiting until 2010. If they are not right back in the middle of the NC hunt by that season, then my personal meltdown will begin.

I am now really really v-poor though.

I agree 10000000000%!!!!! Rutgers people! Rutgers scored 6 td's against Pitt. Rutgers sucks and to be honest so do we. We havent beaten ANYONE worth a damn since Charlie took over. At home or on the road. Might I remind all of you that Rutgers had almost 600 yards of total offense against Pitt!!!!!!!!!!! This is gonna be a downward spiral for the Irish this year. Next week we lose to Boston College, then we may even struggle or lose to Navy and we might as well not even make the trip to Southern Cal for they will only win by maybe 4 or 5 touchdowns at the least. We finish 7-5 Maybe 6-6 if Navy gets the best of us again.

Comparing ND to Alabama? They were in no way in as bad a shape as ND was last year. They were .500 in the SEC and took UGA to overtime, beat a ranked Tennessee etc last year. No way were they even close to being as bad as ND was last year. They also have a seasoned coach and a boatload of upperclassmen as well as a couple of outstanding freshmen. Their QB is a senior. They did not have to start from scratch the way ND has to do.

I just think that reality is that this team would struggle less than last year, have some successes but also show there is a lot of work to do.

Charlie Weis is NOT head coach material!!!!!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE! Can he recruit? Yes, can he teach a quarterback? Yes, can he head coach? NO!!!! It's time to start looking for someone who can. Thats right I said it. Keep Weis as a recruiter, get rid of John Latina, John Tenuta and Mike Haywood (All washed up if you ask me) and go out get a goddamn fucking HEAD COACH!!!!!!!!!!!

Charlie Weis may be a nice guy and a good recruiter but as long as he's a head coach we can all expect to be a 7-5 or 8-4 team year in and year out. Who has he beaten? WHO?

I agree, ND did not take advantage of the receivers height advantage. At least try to throw a few to Kamara in OT.

A day later and I'm pretty much whatever, still disappointed but whatever, I still believe this loss tells us a lot about our program and the complete inability to win a big game, I'm not calling Weis names and screaming classlessly at Jimmy as was implied... I've never done that in fact.... EVER... but obviously this loss will hang around for a while... for me anyway all the air is out of the ballon for this season... not saying I'm giving up, not close, I'm a fan and I'll be there, but the excitment over what this year may bring is completely gone as of this morning and I'm now looking forword to finally taking a step towards legit next year... that's just the honest truth

was that at me?? I wasn't talking about titles... just becoming a legit top 25 and beyond team... there is a huge difference between teams in the top 25 every year (BYU, Bosie State for instance) and top five contenders year in and year out (OU, Texas, USC)
