Will Yeatman has been in a bit of a groove as of late. The 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end prospect out of San Diego (Calif.) Rancho Bernardo continues to see his recruiting stock go up each week. He has also helped his team start the season with an impressive 6-0 record. Despite all of the successes this season, Yeatman continues to take things in stride.
Will Yeatman appears to have a leader.
"Things are going really well," Yeatman said. "We're the No. 1 ranked team in San Diego (Calif.) right now which is pretty cool. We won are first league game last week 50-7."
"I think I'm up to around 20 offers. I know Colorado, Nebraska, Michigan, Oregon State, San Diego State, Arizona State, Arizona, Washington, Maryland, Duke, North Carolina, Boston College, Notre Dame, UTEP, Nevada and a few others have already offered. Most everybody recruiting me says they like me at tight end."
As a tight end for Rancho Bernardo, Yeatman has already grabbed 18 passes for 283-yards and six touchdowns this season. As a part-time player at defensive end, he's added an interception, a sack, and over 20 tackles.
"A lot of schools comment on my big hands," Yeatman said, "and my ability to catch the football. When I was at Nebraska, they measured my hand a 12 1/4 inches, which I guess is pretty big."
Yeatman has already taken two official visits this Fall and he has his eyes on a possible third.
"I visited both Notre Dame and Nebraska back in September," Yeatman said. "I don't have any other visits set yet but I may take a visit to Maryland. Other than that, I'm not sure."
Yeatman said his visits to both Nebraska and Notre Dame brought out a number of positives.
"At Notre Dame, the tradition of the school really stood out," Yeatman said. "The people stand out too. It seemed like I got a long really well with the average student at the school and not just the athletes. I also really like coach (Charlie) Weis. He's a very confident guy who I think is really moving that program in the right direction."
"At Nebraska, I really liked the game itself. Walking into a stadium with fans screaming off their heads for the recruits was really cool. The game went into double overtime and Nebraska came out on top which was also pretty neat. Coach (Bill) Busch is recruiting me and he's a really great guy. When we talk, we don't talk about football much which is really neat. We just get to know each other better."
Yeatman was asked to discuss any potential negatives at each school. The blue-chip tight end commented as follows:
"Notre Dame didn't have any negatives to be really honest with you," Yeatman said. "At Nebraska, the campus wasn't as great as I would have liked but the coaching staff was awesome and I really got a long great with guys on the team as well."
Yeatman, who has also visited both Duke and North Carolina unofficially, admitted that he holds one school in the lead for his signature to a letter of intent in February.
"Notre Dame is probably my leader right now," Yeatman said. "Nebraska is still up there too. The fact that Notre Dame has a lacrosse program certainly helps them out but they also have an all-around great football program."
"I hope to take a few more visits before making any kind of decision. I was shooting to make a decision sometime in November but I also kind of want to take more visits, so we'll see."
