He did have his moments in 2009.

He was actually doing very well against USC (something like 7 grabs for 60 yards, which was overshadowed by The Slip). I remember he had one or two plays in that game where he showed great effort, fighting for first downs and extra yardage.

Who knows? He's got one more shot. We'll see what happens.

I believe you're right, against USC he had a solid game...
He also did good against Washington St.. I'm too lazy to look up the stats, but i know he had a few grabs and a TD.

Duvall had 23 catches for 218 yds and 1 TD.
Paris had 25 grabs for 227 yds and 1 TD.

Also, need I remind anybody of Parris' fumble vs. Navy?

he is going to be a solid possesion receiver this year. i noticed that his short route running improved quite a bit last year. he seemed to always be open in the 7-10 yard range. he's always been a good blocker, so he should see the field for almost every down. he's big and strong, so he could have a very solid year this year. not too sure why he saw such limited action under CW. i've always felt he is better than Paris. no offense to Paris.

  • Kamara excelled as a freshman.
  • As a soph came to preseason camp overweight and started out in the coaches dog house. Floyd and Tate quickly eclipsed him.
  • He injured his knee in in preseason camp and lost time. He came back in a part time role. Weis commented that he was limited and was used primarily in a blocking role. Weis complimented him for filling that necessary role.

if duval is out there catching passes from anybody today then he has a chance. he should be running routes with his qb but that just isnt possible right now.

the only way to fix stiff hands is practice. he HAS to catch the ball when it hits his hands. there is no excuse.... i hadnt ever heard that he showed up out of shape but that would explain alot. another kid with a ton of talent and without the work ethic to be special.

I don't believe showing up "out of shape" was the problem. He showed up "overweight". May sound like splitting hairs but there's difference in this case. I believe he was told to arrive around 216 - 218 instead he arrived 5 or 8 pounds heavier nearer to 225. I believe Duvall decided himself that he should be bigger while the coaches wanted less bulk. The coaches took away his WR number and issued him a linemen's number. Weis was openly critical to the media. When Kamara got his weight down he got his WR jersey back.

If I recall correctly, Stovall also bulked up one year to the dismay of the coaches. He wasn't issued a trench jersey but was slimmed back down to WR weight.

While he was dealing with his distraction/doghouse, Floyd and Tate were turning the coaches heads and Kamara lost reps and his spot on the depth chart. Sophomores are more prone to focus/attitude problems than any other year.

The irony of the weight issue was that Kamara was used primarily in a blocking role as a junior where an extra 5 - 8 pounds of muscle was an asset.
