Wildcat is not a gimmick. It is an updated version of the single wing. The wildcat is effective because it allows the offense to go man on man with the defense. it is a numbers game. In the notre dame wildcat formation, they go with two tight and three wide. that is 7 blockers and a ball carrier against 8 potential defenders in the box.

PS you idiots. Thanks for alerting USC of practice reps. Do you think they have IT geeks that troll for hardcore ND fans to post sensitive information?

Why don't you guys just post a copy of Clausen's wrist play keys you got from your uncle's ex-girlfriends kids teacher, an assistant film guy.

Good grief Charlie Brown!

lol. That was my first thought too. Then I realized, um, what did I realize GoIrish!!!?

Whatever, I wasnt saying it was going to happen today, just saying what he told me. Figured since all of us were talking about Goodman's arm at one point in the offseason then it would be nice to hear that Weis may be planning on using it at some point this year.

If its a gimmick then why do so many college and NFL teams run it? If it was a gimmick the Dolphins wouldnt have called it on the goal line against the Jets with under 10 seconds left and down 4. Why not run it even if its going to give the D something else to focus on in practice? We wouldn't have won the MSU or Purdue games without the Wildcat formation in my opinion.

Everybodys running it right now because it's fresh & keeps the defense on its toes. That part I get but defenses in all stages of football will soon start shutting it down & you'll begin to see less & less of it.

To be clear I'm not arguing the pro's & cons of it I'm just stating my dislike of it because it to me it feels to much like a gimmick. Personally I hate seeing an intricate part of the offense like Clausen standing on the side line.

Given the kicking game, the last few years, I don't understand why everyone is so upset about Weis' gambles on 4th down? I mean, better to take a shot at a first down, than to miss what, for most other teams, amounts to a gimme field goal. This year, he has a kicker he has faith in, and he is kicking the field goals. I just don't see how people are holding the 4th down gambles against him?

Then why was I screaming at my TV when when he went for on 4th against Purdue rather than taking the easy 3? Charlie himself later admited it was a bad call. I still don't trust him not to do this given his track record.

Oh & btw pretty sure Carroll hacked my account ;)

Sure & I agree but it feels too much like a gimmick to me & less like fundamental football. I hate it almost as much as Charlie's irrational going for it on 4th downs. It falls under that same category of grasping at straws when you're not good enough to win outright & have to resort to trick plays, gimmicks & desperation 4th & 1's.

Yeah! Let's just be men! Line up with 11 guys within 4 yards and run right up the middle every time! Fuck that forward pass shit!

I hope you were not complaining when he didn't go for it on fourth down today.

It struck me the same way. Exciting to know inside stuff but it could've waited til after kickoff.

Well, luckily none of the USC coaches logged onto their accounts on IE last night...the Goodman Wildcat looked pretty good.

Probably the same thing your great grandfather said aboutwhen Harper let Dorais "throw" the football to Rockne against Army?

Or was it his comments about Rockne's "shift"?

Or was it about Leahy scrapping the Rockne Shift for the gimmicky "T" formation?

Or was it about Parshegian letting Hanratty and Theismann throwing the ball 60 times a game?

Or was it about Holtz? How much more gimmicky can you get than the Triple Option? Unless it's having McDougal throwing off it.

Wildcat is a nice option, so to speak. If you can have success with it, why not keep it?
