Manti Te'o playing every down?? Weis recruited him so hard and it seems like he plays every 20 downs.

Because it's the Defensive Coordinators call.

Te'o started over Toryan but Toryan seemed to get most of the PT. I don't know the numbers but that's my perception. Perhaps the defensive coaches saw something in his play while you were watching the ball. Perhaps he got injured.

This was curious to me as well. The kid seems to ooze talent. I know he is inexperienced but he plays with fire. Even if he's playing on pure instinct I want him out there.

I saw him on the field for maybe 20-25% of the plays. He was a non-factor though.

Manti Te'o does ooze talent and should be starting because he is bigger stronger and faster but that doesn't make up for the fact that he is still a freshman learning the defense.

Which defense is that?

Totally agree. The kid is very aggressive and his instinctive play is the best I've seen in years out of ND linebackers. Even though there is a learning curve he should be in there more than he is.

You people piss me off. Did you happen to watch closely at when he was in. On atleast 3 plays I saw Brian Smith tell him where to line up. This spread O is very confusing to a young player. He is not ready for some of the complicated aspects. He will play more and more, but he needs some time. He is going to be awesome, but even the best player does not help if out of position. I bet Tenuta saw him struggling to know where to be and got him out.

Thank you. Nice to know that there are some people who actually watch the game. People talk as if Te'o would have won the game for us.

Exactly. He will be a great LB for us. Also I think he will be a huge asset when we play a more traditional offense. But to expect him to dominate in his 2nd game against a gimmicky offense just isnt realistic.

He isn't good enough to start. He started because Toryan Smith was dinged up and couldn't start. That means that Brian Smith moves inside. Since Teo is the 2 at Will, that means he is (by roundabout) an injury replacement.

Am watching the game again right now and just watched B. Smith on one play and McCarthy on another telling Teo where to go. On the one, he went the wrong way and left a huge gap. He was talked to after the play by H. Smith.

Te'o will be fine and i expect to see him play lots of minutes this week, but to suggest him not being in the game cost us is ridiculous.

Interesting that Toryan was "too hurt" to start but he relieved Te'o for most of the game it seemed. Have to check the actual PT monday to see if the numbers agree with perception.

HERE is why Teo is not quite ready for primetime:

I'm in the middle of watching the game again on my DVR. On Michigan's last drive, ND has Michigan in a 3rd and 4, at ND's 32 yard line. A VERY long field goal attempt. They run the 3rd down play, and Teo comes on a delayed blitz. He has a clear line to the QB. He doesn't even put his arms up, and the QB zings one right past Teo's earhole, for a first down. An experienced LB would know to put his arms up in that situation, and at least obstruct the QB's line of sight to whatever might be happening behind him. Teo has great physical skills. I think we have already seen that. But being PHYSICALLY ready to start, doesn't equate to "being ready to start". He looks like he will be a great one, but he just isn't there yet.

Hey I'm not saying Te'o would have won the game for us. I just think he should have been in more than he was. Of course he's raw and is going to make mistakes, but lets get our best players on the field. The defense gave up 31 points (kickoff return not their fault) so why not have him in more?

In an offense like UMs - a defense has to be disciplined to stay home and not overcommit. A young player will do so - unfortunately, our supposed more experienced players did as well - thus, Forcier goes 31 up the middle when we all were faked outside - no one stayed home. As Holtz said in his 2nd year, when criticized that he needed to get faster players. He said: "That's not always the answer, a faster player may just get to the wrong place quicker."

lol. Classic Holtz. But I will still take a faster athlete over a slower. Run a friggen base defense. Think less. Play the damn game.

Think about it. Te'o started over an injured player and then the coaches replaced him with that same injured player speaks volumes. I didn't hear Te'o mentioned in the post game report as being injured. The Defensive Coordinator makes the decision who gets to play and who doesn't. NDs' DC is also the LB coach. Tenuta made have not had the best athletes on the field but he had the best players on the field at this point in their careers.

Our players did stay home. Fleming was in perfect position to tackle Forcier and get the ball back. Forcier just juked the shit out of him. Give the other team some credit when it is due

In time Te'o will be the savior of this defense. I see Te'o being the centerpiece of the future Irish defense. It may not be this year, but it will happen. Look for this kid to start waking up the echoes!

i would love to see Teo out there, but if he doesn't know the proper assignments then that cancels out his talent. its more important in this defense to know their assignments because with all the blitzing the other players need to know where to be so there won't be any holes in the D.

but in due time i'm am sure he will see alot of time out there, but until then i will support who ever is out there
