Seriously, many of you are sounding like the biggest bunch of wimps on earth, and this isn't even Irish Illustrated.

Kelly's seat is getting warmer?

FIRE DIACO????

Get a hold of yourselves women.

I wise man would have bet in favor Florida State to begin with. Notre Dame doesn't have a good quarterback and that is apparent; he has failed against every athletic defense he has seen. The fumble recovery was a gift and the touchdown would have been intercepted if Michael Floyd wasn't sent by God himself to play football dominantly for the Irish.

Please just learn how to direct your criticism, so yo don't start sounding like a 12-year old boy.

You saw Brian Kelly's offense put up some gaudy numbers this seasonwith Tommy Rees. Relax, breathe, and realize that in the future you won't be watching Tommy Rees throwing up prayers to John "Fair Catch" Goodman; you'll be seeing guys like Deontay Greenberry and Davaris Daniels sprint past dudes with bombs from Everett Golson.

This is still only the beginning, so have some freaking patience. If for nothing else than for the sake of my blood pressure.

Why is it so unreasonable to hold people accountable for the shortcomings of this football team and how much patience are we talking about here?

My friend, if you are not on your death bed whats the rush? if you haven't noticed we haven't been good in awhile. Take a step back and enjoy the rebuilding process.

Big numbers and 5 losses. Not much improvement.

I agree that calling for someone's firing is pointless unless you sit on the committee that has such power.

But as far as patience, when exactly is it going to get better? Who exactly is going to be throwing those long bombs to Greenberry and Daniels? It took 5-star, #1 overall recruit Jimmy Clausen until his 3rd year of starting to get really good at putting those long bombs in the right spot. None of the QBs on the roster are even close to Clausen's skill level. Rees doesn't have the arm strength, if coach keeps playing musical QBs Hendrix won't develop the accuracy, and Golson hasn't played. Any QB recruited next year won't be ready until 2014 or 2015.

How about some nice short slant passes for first downs, or running the ball on 3rd and 1 instead of a long bomb?

If Brian Kelly himself agrees the offense needs to be completely reevaluated, are we being unreasonable to say the same thing?

This offense is not one or two players away from being great. Two of the three great players (Floyd, J Gray & Eifert) that saved it from being a total disaster are now gone. What rational basis do we have to believe that two players (Greenberry & Daniels) who have never seen playing time will be the spark that gets it going?

Brian Kelly's history says he should get it going, but what has stopped him from doing it so far? Is that a fair question?

I get that we haven't been good for a while, but frankly I am tired of waiting and it's time to stop rolling out the excuse wagon. It's been a rebuilding process for 15 years now without any real progress ever being made. It turns out to be the same ol' Irish every year. That is tough to except when Brady Hoke is taking a less talented Michigan team to the BCS in his first year while we are waiting on the annointed one to get "his guys" in place before he can be competitive. I am calling BS and that this team and Kelly have underperformed yet again.

It's insane to say that Kelly's seat isn't getting warmer. Personally, I don't agree. But if ND doesn't improve next year, and by improve I mean win more games, there's a 50/50 chance he's gone. Ty was fired after 2 years in a row without making a BCS game. CW after 3. Like it or not, the time to win at ND is always yesterday.

Funny! We can only hope you're right.
A lot of the future of N.D. football will be riding on the quality of recruits we get from this years class. Many look awesome. GO IRISH-in 2012!!!

I'm still in amazement that some people refuse to hold Kelly accountable for his game-day coaching and calls.....people used to criticize Weis for his ego, and he did have one, but Kelly's is right up there with his.

Tell me Buster, where was Devaris this season? If he's so damned talented, why hasn't he seen the field yet? You talk of Greenbery and Daniels catching bombs from Golson, whom I believe is our future, but next year Tay B will be a true Frosh and Daniels couldn't even find his way to the field this season.....our WR corps this season has been a huge disappointment sans Floyd.

Thank you OC for touching on this. I can buy into rebuilding but to think that Kelly is above reproach is ridiculous. A part of me even thinks the only reason he stuck with Rees so long was to prove to himself that benching Dayne was justified in his mind.

What has stopped him is the culture at ND. With the limitations the university places on its head coach and stretching him out to do things other than coach and recruit. Do you think Saban has all the auxiliary crap to deal with at Alabama, or the administrative restrictions (training table, etc. ) He is fighting much more than an opponent on the field. That's a fight we don't see or hear much about.

It is really hard for a fan to see what's going on behind the scenes. I've said this before, but I watched the 1965 offense struggle horrendously, only to watch two complete unknowns (Hanratty/Seymour) totally resurrect the offense. I watched Rocket add a dimension to the 1988 team that totally changed the dynamic of the offense. Instead of one fast wide receiver, we now had two on opposite sides- Watters and Rocket- with another true Freshman tight end in Derek Brown contributing as well. This took us from being a good team to a great team.

I'm not saying that's going to happen next year, but I'm not saying that a couple of players can't make a big difference either. A lot of things can change from year to year in college football. That's what makes it so much fun.

Every time you hire a new staff you rebuild, unless you have the same philosophy. which is pretty much never. Our fan base is 10x times bigger then any other school so theres always more pressure here. The only way we get back is give a coach time to right the ship.

That is absolutely asinine. I'm glad the folks currently in charge have more patience than that.

Ty was fired after 2 years in a row without making a BCS game. CW after 3. Like it or not, the time to win at ND is always yesterday.

Willingham never made a BCS bowl. He was fired because everyone around the program saw it taking a nosedive. Tyrone was truly in over his head, or at the very least lazy.

Weis was the one fired for a lack of results. That happens when you hire assistant coaches without meeting them or knowing their M.O.

Kelly has won everywhere and will win at ND. I have no doubts. 2012 will be a tough year, but 2013 and on is when the "no excuses" rants can start. This is still a team with complete lack of talent or depth at multiple positions.

That "like it or not" line is grade-A malarkey. 1) I don't agree with it, and 2) you said you don't, so stop acting like that needs to be the case. Even if it is the way things are, if you voiced from freaking reason from time to time maybe that would change.

Maybe this is the new Notre dame football we will have to get used too. Good enough to have a winning reacond but cant over come it self. I think that Kelly which i don't want to see get fired has to sit back some and take a look at this season. There ways this season could have been more productive but he won't change his mind because of his PRIDE and that cost us a couple games this year.

Let's start with your last line. I'm just a passive observer. We're a bunch of guys (and one gal) talking football on the internet. I'm a big believer in patience with coaches, that's why I disagreed on the Weis firing. But I digress... the point is, even if I did "voice from freaking reason from time to time" what I say isn't going to change the culture surrounding ND football. I'm not saying that we need to win a NC next year. Just that if we don't get to 9 wins there will be panic and people who actually do make decisions will start looking for a shake up. It's not an automatic "win or get fired situation" but the seat is always warm at ND. Next year, it's toasty. 2013 it's on fire.

Mea Culpa on saying Ty made a BCS game. I forgot that 10-2 in the regular season didn't do the trick that year.

Ahhhh yes, the "Notre Dame will always be like this and we just have to accept it."

Crap I say! Turnover Tommy and his fumbling friends did this team and its great potential a gigantic disservice.

"The Season of the Unforced Turnover" is over. Pray that with coaching and maturity it won't be like this next season.

No.

The "people who make decisions" saw considerable development in the RB, TE, OL, DL, and LB positions. They saw a defense play at a very, very high level for all but a few quarters this season. They saw the team put up 500+ yards of offense in more than a few of its games. They saw a team that actually started to blow out inferior opponents. They saw an offensive line that went something like two months without giving up a sack.

They saw a huge ****ing improvement and realize that the W/L record doesn't represent everything. They know that improvement is the goal and that the wins will follow shortly after.

All of you need to freaking relax! Brian Kelly is our guy, and you can bet next year that the qb situation will be ironed out. The defense is going to kill. I have had the pleasure of meeting both Lynch and Nix, and i wouldn't want to take a hit from either of them if i were sitting inside a navigator in full uniform. Hendrix is pretty talented, I don't know what to say about Olson because I've not seen him take a snap. ND is not a lost cause.
But seriously, if i were 3/4 of the whiners on this board, I'd not quit my day job, because honestly you all suck at coaching from your couch. Let the man do his job, light some candles and woosah...i think next year we are 10-2 with losses to OK and SC. Flame away.

I agreed kelly is our guy. Kelly is not to blame for the turnovers. Not his fault that gray cant tuck a ball at the one against usf. not his fault crist cant handle a snap on the goaline against usc. and it surly isnt his fault rees through into double coverage againt fla st.
If, and that is a big if, kelly gets his guy at QB, we could be REALLY good next year with that front 7.

Well, that nails it I guess. If you are calling BS, with the impressive college football resume that you have rolled out for us, then I guess we should all storm Kelly's house. #OccupySouthBend, anyone? If you haven't seen any "real progress", then you never will. You'll forever be one of those guys who is only happy when he can lord over his buddies with the fact that his college football is so good that they would probably make the playoffs, in the NFL.

Kelly's not the coach that I thought he was when he was first hired. I don't care that he's won everywhere he's been- look at the competition he played at Cincinnati

BK's seat is gonna get warmer every year he doesn't win a National Championship but only because....IT'S NOTRE DAME!!! Your on the hotseat as soon as you sign your contract. We are the most impatient fans in sports!!! Not that it's a bad thing! We just all know how great ND can be and don't expect anything less. I love BK and yea I've been dissapointed thus far...but he needs to stay.I know it's been said many times...but We are on the right track.

Maybe we should hire Mark May...hi haters :)

Did you think that we'd be 8-5 this year? Didn't think so...

I was as optimistic as anyone entering 2011, but it's painfully obvious that Kelly isn't the top-flight coach that I thought he was. It's time to alter my expectations for this regime...
