Being a longtime ND supporter thru thick and thin, I am reaching the boiling point watching this under-achieving team! All these highly regarded recruits and we are sitting on a 5-4 record with not a single win against a quality team. The offense continued to regress....4 picks...no running game....no CREATIVITY and consequently NO points.
It is time to quit accepting mediority...hell mediority would be an improvement! Looking at the 2008 schedule I thought we would have at least 9-10 wins. Now we will be lucky to finish 6-6.( Syracuse is probably one team that is more putrid than ND right now).
I am really really starting to question CW as the coach. The offense isn't producing and the defense hasn't played all that well either. How I would love to see ND's defense play like BC did tonight! I see a team like Texas Tech put up 600 yrds offense and light up the scoreboard like a pinball machine. Why can't the Irish with all these blue-chip recuits be productive?.
Lastly, I will continue to support the Irish but this is a school with 11 National Championships and this mediocre play has to go!

From what I understand, they essentially started from scratch, to include to a beginner head coach. They stunk it up tonight. Bad. I never liked the choice of CW as head coach, and I predicted a 5-7 record this year based on last year's crap. They might go 6-6. Phooey on you for expecting too much. :)

As uninspired as I was when he was hired, I am still not ready to jump on the fire Charlie wagon. ND simply bent over and allowed a high hard one tonight.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't be so confident about the Syracuse game.

There were several around here who questioned [NAME REDACTED] as a coach last year, and caught a lot of flack for it while hearing nothing but excuses about young players, tough opponents, Ty, wait til next year, blah blah blah.

Well, we see how that's working out now.

Trenches, trenches, trenches. We can't run the ball and we can't stop the run. It all starts w/strong play on the line of scrimmage - something ND has lacked for way too long.

I'd rather have a good college coach...who understands the college game . I see a lot of teams producing a lot more with less talent

True. I'm tired of seeing ND play way under their potential.

Yes, and with the players that we bring in that shouldn't even be an issue - but it is. That's coaching.

This offensive offensive line couldn't get a push against my 87 year-old grandmother's bridge club.

Tripsdad - very good point. If you watch closely, we lost both lines of scrimmage tonight.

Wahoo - our "D" actually played good tonight...only gave up 1 TD and that was after GT fumbled a punt. Our "O" was put in such bad position all night, and it seemed we had a penalty every kickoff to pin us back. I think our D played rather well, considering all the circumstances they were up against...the face that it was a horrible BC offense was hard to swalllow

Dude - No one can get a push against your grandmother's bridge club. I tried. They some mean ol' ladies.

I think the entire problem can be blamed on CW's offensive "scheme."

The D wasn't bad tonight...I want to see a dominating D ...a D that forces turnovers....
I was at the Pitt game.. and I watched the D let Pitt drive it down the field for the tying TD after we had gone ahead. I don't know the actual stat but I am willing to believe that we have allowed more 3rd & long coversions than just about anyone

Yes, our D played well enough tonight. We were slaughtered in the field position battle (just look at avg starting field position - it's disgraceful) via penalties, turnovers, and 3-and-outs. The sad thing is that even if we wouldn't have given away so much field position then we would have been looking at struggling to stay in a 0-0 tie because our offense was so impotent.

Yep. But who is capable of doing it under ND standards, and the over scrutiny of certain magazines and TV station haters? I hear NDs standards are as high as they get, while wanting to win every game. ND needs to adjust, or figger out what they really want.

BC's "D" was in the Top 10 coming into this game. While it is disappointing that we got shut out, that is a mitigating factor.

I have to disagree with your wording in regards to the offense being "put in such a bad position all night". They put themselves in a bad position by failing to move the ball at all. The defense was stopping BC on a short field all night; a short field provided by the ND offense.

I'm on the ledge with you all but come on... we will CRUSH Navy and Syracuse and then have the script fliped on us in LA...

absolutely zero chance of anything but that happening in all three games...

Yepp ..... I totaly agree. The offense didn't help at all...no sustained drives...score could have been a lot worse. Hey, we finally found a team with a worse FG kicker than the Irish!

NDMontana - The offense was put in a bad position all night...they didn't put themselves there! Every kick return we had a penalty that started us on the 15. The Offense didn't "provide" a short field...

That being said, our punter was awful tonight and our O couldn't move the ball with any consistency. I've seen progress this year, but not enough to grant this coaching staff any wiggle room. Latina must go, no doubt. Polian is on the ropes, with 2 blocked field goals in 2 games.

We have no fire, no anger, no "nastiness", no "pound it". Coaches need to shut the fuck up and start holding ppl accountable.

Amen to that. I am sick of the excuses. Let's get a coaching staff that understands the college game. ND looks like the teams that the Irish in the 90's used to beat down!

The offense stalled inside our own 30 yard line all night long. Was the punting terrible? Yes--but you can live with 30 yard punts if you're punting from the 40 or 45 yard line. We were punting from the 15,20,25 or 30 all night long. Penalties or no penalties, it was still First and Ten after the kicking game penalties and we failed to get first downs all night. The offense sealed their own fate and that isn't JC's fault alone, it's all 15 guys that played on that side of the ball that are to blame.

Now CW....I agree. I don't want anymore cheese dick mottos or 300 lb offensive lineman gimmeckry. You win or you lose, you do or you don't, you can or you can't. If you lose, you don't or you can't, than get the fuck on the horse you rode in on, turn it 180 degrees and get the fuck out of town.

Maybe the defense was too tired, but I was wondering why the frick not a single member on the D didn't go off on someone. I played D for 12 years, and after a while, when you watch the O and special teams mess up so bad, you get pissed as a mofo and friggen go off on someone just because. I did not see that happen.

I know that if I was on defense I would have called out everyone on that side of the ball. I would have went into one of the sideline huddles (the huddles right before the offense takes the field after a kickoff, punt or turnover) and asked to be put in on offense. I would have said that I could play better than any of the pussies on the o-line. It would have been worth a shot.

Sorry, but I don't see this team "crushing" ANYONE (including some of the teams from which they are recruiting players.)

Too Predictable! No Imagination!

Too Predictable! No Imagination!

1. The offensive play calling for the entire game was terrible.

2. Clausen telegraphs "almost" every pass by only looking at one receiver. Too Predictable.

3. Clausen "is taught" to hand off the ball by holding it out for all to see; and with the back 7+ yards deep, and the "D" knowing where to go, the running game hasn't a chance. Why can't he hide the ball before the handoff? Too predictable.

4. Why aren't there any misdirection, veer, counter runs???? The running game appears to be straight off tackle or to the outside all of the time. Too predictable.

5. Finally, two backs were in the backfield, but the same runs were used.

6. The "O" line stinks, but I think it has more to do with the coaching. Same with the unimaginative play calling.

6. We are too predictable with "No Imagination." Weis appears to continue to force "his way or no way" play calling on the team. Sometimes, "new dogs can learn old tricks from the masters," like Ara and Lou. Weis says he talks to them all of the time. It appears he doesn't learn anything from them or is too arrogant to use some of their scemes. With all this talent it's a damn shame. Pretty soon, seeing this game plan, the recruits will walk away and we'll really be screwed.

7. Bring back Ara or Lou. It doesn't matter how old they are, I believe they can do a better job!

That's just not true. This team has completely crushed my spirits, ergo they can crush somebody.

haven't been on this site in some time... can a mod please send me a pm... want to change my handle and have several other questions that need to be answered... the game today? I don't even know what to say... it is like they haven't had a coaching staff this year... we aren't any better than last year we've just had an easier schedule...

You have to delay on those type of runs which would completely eliminate the already slim chance that our RB's have to make it back to the line of scrimmage.
