Completely unfair, but it is a question of when, not if. Absolutely, he made MASSIVE blunders that almost everyone outside the program could see. But, the fact is that no one else could succeed at ND. Probably, Kelly is doing as good or better a job as anyone would do. It is easy to not make blunders at LSU or Alabama or USC with all the advantages they have, both licit and illicit. Saban, Meyer, etc would be even worse than Kelly at ND. I can't imagine the lack of foresight they'd have in the midst of the maelstrom of competitive disadvantages that is the ND football program. The fact is that no football coach could possibly overcome all the disadvantages we face. For those of you that haven't learned from the past 20 years, 8-5 is a good year for us. We will never have another 1 loss season, much less win a BCS title. Once or twice every 15 years or so we might sneak in to BCS with a 2 loss season if all the stars align...and get crushed by a real BCS team. I'd say get used to it, but anyone who hasn't after 20 years is NEVER going to. So, enjoy calling for HC firings every 3-4 years for the rest of your lives.

by the way, just because I realize that ND is never going to be a powerhouse again doesn't make me a non-fan. I enjoy cheering for Notre Dame because they do things right. I root for ND because we are the good guys, not because we play good football because we don't and never will. Unfortunately, too many ND fans don't realize that they ought to have the same outlook as BC fans. They root on their guys for being gutsy, giving their all and doing things right. They know they are not going to win big. ND fans need to accept and cheer their team for what it is, not what it was 25-75 years ago.

and, I think Kelly is a great coach who would win as much or more than any other coach at any given school. Put him at Alabama and he'd have as good a record as Saban. There's no one I'd rather have as the coach. But, NO ONE could win here more than he is and NO ONE could recruit better here than he is either, in all likelihood.

I am assuming this is your first rodeo following recruiting so closely. I think just about everybody who followed closely last year on this board went through more of a rollercoaster last year. I was upset last year but this year, I find it more easy to just let the chips fall where they may. Life could be worse, Notre Dame football could be worse, Notre Dame football recruiting could be worse. We received many solid prospects, and now all you do is bitch about how we didn't get certain players or keep one good one. Look at the Nebraskas and Cals of the college football world. They would love to have our class.

I just look at this year's smaller class as a bigger opportunity for next year. Next year the talent in the midwest is much higher than it has been in recent years and when the midwest has a high talent, Notre Dame gets that talent.

He'll probably be fired before his press conference is over.

Have you watched any of the recruiting at OSU since Meyer has been there. Yes it is easy to hate him but the kids want to play for him and it is showing. Kelly and staffs problem was they slow played one to many recruits.
