When Does Weis Know...

What his QB situation will be to start the season?

Never have played a snap of football, so what can really change in 4 weeks time? I know fall practice starts tomorrow (hoo-rah!!!), and that it is plausible (and knowing coach Weis, probable) that the public may not even know until after we take the field after the opening kickoff. But when does the head coach know? Next week? A week before the Tech game? He's got to have a good feeling already...

Sorry for the simplicity of this post, but I am itching to see some Irish offense. Can't wait to be in South Bend on 9/1!

I'd bet that Charlie has a pretty good idea already.

I'm going out on a limb and saying Demetrius Jones is our starting QB, with Evan Sharpley playing the role of Paul Failla in red zone situations. Claussen, despite the early enrollment, redshirts.

I can't disagree with you completely, I would not be surprised to see the most experienced QB take the field. All the same, with as much raw talent as we have on offense this season, I can just see a QB that is able to stretch the pocket a little bit more being a good fit for this team.

Whatever wins games.

Agreed, from what I have heard I would bet the farm on Evan starting when we play GT but Jimmy being the starter by time the year ends... with DJ seeing situational time

I'm not sure I agree with that. If Jimmy replaces Evan at some point during the season, that would indicate that Evan was not successful as the starting QB, which means a few losses early on. I guess if that were to happen, your scenario would make sense. I guess I'm just stubborn to acquiesce that we are 'rebuilding.'

Where is Demetrius in this equation? Could he make a position change, or is he a few weeks away from a transfer if he is #3 on the depth chart?

It's going to get very interesting over the next 4 weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if CW waits until the week of or even the day of the GT game to let the rest of the watching world know who the starter is. It could very easily be Evan, but with the talent of DJ and JC, it's going to be a crapshoot, that is for sure. I'll agree with a previous poster in that I think CW already has an idea who is starter will be.

I'll bet you the barn, the four horses residing in the barn, 3 cows, and your oldest daughter.

I don't know how your mind works...you want my daughter and a bunch of farm animals. I will respectfully pass on the offer.

I would bet CW has a very good idea who is starting barring any type of injury. Why announce early and give GT an idea who is starting. I for one can wait with anticipation.

Early enrollees are not allowed to redshirt.

Quick question, are the ND practices open to the public or media or anything like that?

I hate to imitate another team but I think there is a possibility that DJ will be used the same as Tim Tebow was used for Florida last year.

For some reason, I am under the impression that the practices might be less open than last year, but I could've been dreaming or taking something out of context. Regardless, if anyone is allowed to see anything it will be agility drills. I doubt Weis will let anyone know who teh starting QB is until the final week.

You could be right, but also, the nice thing is that we have soo many options in which to choose from. It's going to be fun and exciting to watch. I can't wait till Sep. gets here.

Charlie may know already, but as he stated earlier today (I saw it on ESPN) Why would he let Ga. Tech know?? I bet we don't know for sure untill he walks out on the field on Sep 1.
