If JC is 100%, then he starts. He is the future and we might as well start now as we have nothing to lose. If JC is not ready physically, then I agree with the others, let Sharpley start but keep the leash very short. Hand Jones the clipboard. No way in hell was he ready.

1.)Sharpley on a short-leash,2.)JC,and finally 3.)Jones-possibly create a goalline package for him like Tebow at Florida last year

I shouldn't have said Sharpley showed nothing, The offensive line gave him no time to do anything, but he needs to get rid of the ball. I thought Jones showed almost nothing. I say go with Clausen though. He's the guy who's going to bring us a championship in the not too distant future.

Clausen bc they blitzed twice when clausen didnt pass the ball. One time he got sacked. The other he ran out of bounds for no gain. Clausen is the future and seeing the way he passed compared to the way quinn passed as a freshman, I think he will be better than quinn.

You're asking who WILL start, and not who SHOULD, right? 'Cause I can just about promise you that the starter WILL be Sharpley, though he'll be on a pretty short leash ... if he doesn't perform, it'll be time to throw JC to the wolves, BQ-style.

Hey, at least we've got a cupcake opponent in week three. ;)

I'd like to see JC start because he is the starter of the future. Let him gain the valuable playing experience and take his bumps. Obviously though if he is not completely healthy then start Evan.

Clausen wouldn't have played yesterday if he wasn't healthy.

I only just now processed the fact that Sharpley got sacked SEVEN times yesterday. That said, our running game was going nowhere fast, everyone knew Evan had to throw the ball, and JC didn't have to face a blitz like that.

If Evan ends up on his back that often against PSU, though, I agree that it's Clausen Time.

I firmly believe that there will be a major improvement between the 1st game and the second game every player starts. Everyone's quick to criticize the OL. But these are new guys, and they need to gel. That won't start happening until the middle of the year, probably late October, early November, especially with the schedule that ND plays. I think CW's motivation was to protect his OL the first game, thats why he came in with DJ. I believe PSU's got a better D than GT, especially the back seven. They probably won't blitz as much as GT, but they will have great coverage. I don't know if your OL is going to be able to protect the QB for long. I think Stanley or Jones should get the nod because of that.

I've been reading these boards for a long time and have never posted so this will be probably be my first and only post. First, let me say that I do not care who plays QB as long as we get better. But, everyone is throwing Jones under the bus. But have we forgotten Brady Quinn's stats from that Purdue game? 29-59 297yds 4int. He is arguably the best QB in Notre Dame history. And he went through his rough times also. So, please give everyone a fair chance here fellas.

I want DD to start and for CW to open up te playbook. All DD did when he was in the game was run for his life.

I think DJ should be given another chance to prove himself. The line didn't do their job protecting the qb yesterday. Give him another chance and if he fails than bring in Jimmy.

But that doesn't mean there weren't pass plays being called. Sometimes it looked like he was just too scared to throw it ...

I dont understand why everyone wants Clausen to start?? Dont you guys understand that PSU will try to blitz and put tons of pressure on the Qb just like GT did?? The line isn't going to improve that much at all in a week and whoever is the Qb is STILL going to face a lot of pressure and guys in his face all the time. I would be concerned to how Clausen could hold up to all that. I think its way too much to ask a true freshman to go in there, take a lot of hits, and face constant pressure while also having to make plays and be a leader. Give it to Sharpley, he did good enough that he'll be able to hold down the fort until November when we can gently break Clausen in.

But why wait? Let Clausen play the best defenses and see how he acts. Face it guys, we will win 6-7 games, 8 if we are lucky. Just put clausen in and give him the ball to throw against GOOD defenses. If he shines then he will start the rest of the year. If he turns the ball over then bring sharpley in. Clausen is the future QB, but start him now for the experience.

I'm sorry but am i really the only one that sees us having a similiar game. The o-line flat out cannot improve enough to adequately protect a Qb from now until Saturday. I just really don't want to see Clausen being thrown to the wolves and risk getting his confidence shot very badly.

If you dont want his confidence to badly hurt, then why play him at all? Yeah lets not play our best QB,but young, on the sidelines. Maybe when he gets into his junior year his confidence wont be hurt when he plays the same teams. Give me a break!

Put him in and get the experience. Hes going to make mistakes, but i think he will handle them the right way and play the next down with confidence. Did Brady Quinns confidence go out of the window his freshman year when he got hammered every play? I dont think so!

Start Clausen.

How do you even know he's our best Qb. We saw Clausen against second stringers and he only got blitzed twice, one of which he was sacked. Evan Sharpley can get the job done.

He clearly had better pocket pressence, he definetly has a quick release, and hes smart. He doesnt hold the ball and take the sack. He moves out of the pocket well and runs out of bounds. He doesnt hesitate to throw the ball like Sharpley did about 4-5 times when he was sacked because he saw the LB's coming ten yards out and he still took the sack, instead of throwing it away.

I think Sharpley starts, though I think he'll be on something of a short leash - if he doesn't perform, it's Jimmy's team.

To be honest I can imagine DD coming in now and then for a change of pace ...
Who in the hell is DD ?

I would like to see JC out there, as would many ND fans. Fact is, you are most likely going to see Evan as the starting QB against Penn State. Evan took sacks and you think thats why he shouldn't start? I don't know what you think we need from a rookie QB, but the NUMBER ONE thing we need them to do is protect the ball. ES might have been able to avoid a few negative yardage plays but the risk of the turnover versus the reward.... wasn't worth it.

So basically - yes, ES will most likely start with JC spelling him.

Dream scenario - JC comes in and carves up PSU, and Charlie sends DD in there to mess with them with a "will he pass, will he run?" Rice/Tebow attack. Oh and ES beans May in the head with a fastball (hey I can dream, right?).

Ant80 - I know you're a Big Televen supporter (duh), but I honestly think that GT's D is probably the best we'll see other than USC's. PSU doesn't have the kind of D-Line that tech has, not to mention Tenuta.... kind of scares me. I think QBs hear that ominous music from Halloween (the movie) before they even snap the ball. PSU will have better coverage against the pass but who knows if that will even matter.
