I wouldn't say they introduced me (there were others a bit earlier), but they are the ones, at least to me, that took it to another level along with others like LL, Ice T, Run DMC, etc.

I'm a big fan of all genres, but the 80s were simply off the charts in terms of diversity of music. At parties back in the day, one minute VH was rocking, Mellencamp the next minute, then some UK rock/pop and Alternative, then some Billy Idol thrashing about, then some 2LC, Run DMC, and the Beastie Boys. Great time for music. I love the 60s and 70s too.

I know I'm old, but I was too young to get into the late 70s early 80s hip-hop stuff. My first introduction to Run DMC was "Walk this Way" with Aerosmith. I think my first cassette tape (!) in my rockin' Sony Walkman was Styx's "Killroy Was Here".

That's a pretty darn good tune for an intro to RDMC. It was a total game changer for rap/rock. One of the best collaborations ever.

Love all of this. Regarding Slick Rick, though, his '99 album was unreal. I know I'm biased, but I don't think it's unreasonable to say that the '90s produced the best hip-hop, ever. Wu Tang, Biggie, Nas, Eminem, Tupac, Snoop and Dre, Cube, Busta, Mobb Deep... just an amazing decade.

I agree the 90s had more, but it took the 80s hip hop and rap to bring you the 90s. It was mainstream by then. I still have a 90s mix of Biggie, Tupac, Snoop, Dre, LL, DMX, NAS, Wu Tang, aTCQ, and Ice Cube that I play regularly.

Regardless of my mood, this song can always get me going.

Yes, there were so many other performers who put out great tracks, but my primary preference was that East Coast, angry, grimy, stuff. That being said, The Dirty South put out some fantastic beats during the No Limit days. I went down a deep, deep rabbit hole, last night.

I totally forgot Cash Money, as well. BG was on my constant gym-music rotation for some time.

Since people are bringing up the 80's I can't even begin to explain how influential Suicidal Tendencies was on pop culture and music in general. Their self titled debut was one of the first records I ever owned. Also, they arguably made one of the best music videos of all time.

Dre et al basically stole their whole look once they dropped the over the top jerry curls and flashy outfits of the World Class Wreckin Cru. Haha
