2005 USC

This one I saw coming from a mile away. The moment DJ Brown dropped that pick I knew we were about to blow it. We also didn’t get robbed like 2005 USC with bad officiating, we made the mistakes ourselves.

I mean the officiating didn't help...but we definitely left a lot more plays out there tonight than 2005.

‘05 was much worse. At that point we were less than 10 years from the Holtz era and I really thought we could be elite again. 17 years later I’ve learned better.

I saw it coming, too. Is it bad that I didn’t watch the final play because I knew what would happen? Didn‘t think my heart could take watching a defeat like that again so I turned off the TV.

If Fasano doesn’t fumble we would’ve scored another TD and basically ended the game.

We’re a way better team this year than the ‘05 team imo. This one hurts but we can salvage the season

Bush push vs missed interception, 10 men on field.
I was there for the Bush Push. It was quite literally one of the most depressing experiences of my life. It broke my heart.

I’m not upset tonight because I expect Notre Dame to fail. I’m just gonna go to bed. Whatever.

I think this one. I didn't feel like being invested in this shit was pointless after 05.

Matt Leinart hitting an absolutely perfect throw on 4th and 9 with Ambrose Wooden in perfect coverage. Utterly deflating. They did everything right and it still wasn't enough.
Damn you for bringing that memory back!

we were moving the ball quite a bit. We definitely should have put up more than 14 but those 4th down turnovers in enemy territory….

Bush Push game. Easy.

That’s not a very good OSU team. That USC team was a machine.
Why does everyone keep saying this OSU team isn’t very good? They’re the number six team in the country. Lol.

They’ll finish the regular season with two losses.
Maybe. I mean that’s why the games are played.

Anyhow, at the end of the day I like watching college football and that was a damn good college football game irregardless of the end results.

This bush push felt like the first of many of this pattern. Tonight just confirms that this pattern will go on for ever. This is the peak of being an Irish fan. Fucking sucks man.

'05. Even if it wasn't on its face, the season isn't over. This loss could be part of the story. We don't know yet.

That Bush Push game was one of the all time fun times I’ve ever had.

Was at an Irish bar in San Pedro watching the game with my friend Sean, his grandfather who was from Belfast and his uncle who is from Glasgow. Grand Pappy kept shouting “field goal! Kick the damn field goal!”. His uncle was trying to get USC fans to bet on everything related to every play. When the USC fans said douchey shit the response was “you guys are supposed to be hot shit. Why is this even close?”.

After the game we went back to Sean’s uncles house but not before stopping at the grocery store to load up in beer. Apparently Sean’s uncle has a phobia related to running out of beer. He insisted we buy 4 18 packs for the four of us.

Well we get back to Seans uncles pad and within ten minutes a bunch of his buddies who are from Ireland and musicians show up. Apparently they were playing at a funeral so they bust out their bag pipes and drums and we have a fuck USC parade through the apartment complex with full on pipes and drums.

Sure the Irish lost but at the end of the day I had a blast.

My immediate reaction in the post-game was this one but you can make arguments for both.

Bush Push on a surface level was more brutal. But ND played their absolute best against an all-time USC team. It’s hard to be too devastated when you see a team play to their complete potential.

This game hurts because it was against a great team and program but ND should have won the game. They felt like they belonged from a talent perspective, played like the better team, and made dumb mistakes to give away a premier win. It’s gut wrenching.
